Canadian Best Buy shipments confirmed
Canadians, get ready: a chain-wide confirmation of available 360s is out. Get up bright and early and try to be the first in line this Friday at your local Best Buy. Expect no pre-orders or rain checks. A minimum of ten units will be in stock, so your best bet would be to show up way before the doors open at 9 AM.Good luck!
[Thanks, Omar]

My buddy who works at Best Buy told me about this earlier last week. I figured he just was told that when it was, but didnt think it would actually be when they get them. I really want to pick one up, but I'd kind of hope some of the problems would be sorted first. I should just get one.
What about Futureshop, anyone know if they're getting them then too? Same store basically.

Hey would there be any difference between the box's here in the USA versus the ones in Canada? i mean i live close to the border up here in Washington
biglzr @ Dec 7th 2005 12:28AM
Indeed there are. The Canadian version of the xbox 360 is banned from all Canadian ice fishing events for it's heat related issues. Also the owners manual probably has the word "colour" in it as well as having any of the pesky 1-800 number crossed out. Good luck!

The Canadian 360's are exactly the same.

so is there is difference in like the games at all? like pal or ntsc? or in like language or something? do they have any laws that make the box any different at all?
dan @ Dec 7th 2005 12:50AM
Is this Canada's first shipment?
S.A. @ Dec 7th 2005 12:53AM
The Canadian 360 would be exactly the same. They use NTSC in both America and Canada. The only differences may be in the manual, but it would still be in English. I have a cousin who lives up there, they have the same accessories included too.

Is it the same price up there?
mike @ Dec 7th 2005 2:12AM
nope.. its $499 (premium) and $399 (core) CDN dollars.
Premium - $399 USD (462.133 CAD)
Core - $299 USD (346.284 CAD)
The systerm costs this much more in Canada:
31.82 USD ($36.86 Cad) - Premium
40.8157 USD (47.28 Cad) - Core
Not the big of a differance compared to the wopping ammount more that Europe must pay. As you can see, here in Canada you REALLY get a better deal with the premium over a core.
If you want to try you luck crossing the boarder and buying one at a best buy, we do accept American currency so no need to go to a bank or deal with exchange rates. or you could just pay with visa? Make sure you hide that system in your car on the way back, you dont want to get charged taxes for it when you leave.
The only difference between Canada and USA xbox is the packaging. The main box is in french and english and inside it comes with two manuals (the english and french). The system itself does not have any french on its labels.
There are 3 packaging styles of video games sold in Canada.
1. The DVD cover is in both french and english. I can't stand covers like this. thankfully, they dont make like this anymore. I hate having all that french on my package that I printed out a few custom covers for my older gamecube games.
2. The cover is the Standard english only cover
3. The cover is a standard english only cover, which contains a bilingual cover ontop of the shrinkwraped game in a second shrink wrapping. This means once you open the package, you can just throw away the bilingual (or spare french cover) and your game will be the standard english cover (this appears to be the method used most nowadays. It satisfies everybody)
As for the 360, well I picked up 2 games and both were the standard english only covers so Im not sure if any 360 games have the bi-lingual spare covers

Because of the lack of date specified in the main post, the xboxes will be available this Friday, Dec 9th.
adamsb @ Dec 7th 2005 12:39PM
From the main post:
".. be the first in line this Friday .."
=D
Don Wilson @ Dec 7th 2005 12:53PM
I just saw that. :P I always look for specific day numbers when looking for dates in posts. ;)

I've never waited before a store opens to get a product before, and I hear some uber-geeks are camping out. I was thinking of showing up 1 hour before the store opens??? What are my chances? /Canadian
orephelious @ Dec 8th 2005 8:47AM
it'll end up being another launch day crisis...expect to be there at least 5 hours before opening or don't expect to get one.
