How to prevent scratched discs

Rubber padsFirst they showed us how it happens, part of the laser housing was scratching the disc if the console is moved (that includes bumping) while the disc is spinning. Now Llamma's back to show us how to prevent it. They simply add three foam pads around the spindle and "with the 3 foam rubber pads... in place we now are unable to scratch up the disc. I'm so confident I will insert the real quake 4 disc rather than the demo disc as before."

He proceeds to attempt the same test as before, rotating the 360 while the disc is spinning. Some noise, like before, but then... no scratches! Check out his site for a video and some pointers on where to place the rubber pads. Our suggestion is still to keep your console still while any discs are spinning (this is just insurance).
