Sporting a no nonsense utilitarian title, Xbox 360: A Complete Guide is the first aftermarket manual out the door. It features a comprehensive focus covering setting up video, audio, networking, Xbox Live, peripheral attachments, and XP Media Center integration. The book is available through Lulu.com, an internet retailer for self-published books, so there is no giant publisher behind it verifying its accuracy or quality. Then again if there were, it wouldn't be out already!For $14.95 this might be the perfect present for that technologically illiterate gamer who's lucky enough to be getting a 360 this holiday. Sure, it might not be the largest demographic, but Douglas A. Thompson has it cornered!

I'll restate my comment from Major Nelson's blog:
The first indication of the quality of the “book” should be that it’s self-published, as opposed to being run through a publishing house. There is literally no quality control through self-publishing companies like Lulu. You can self-publish anything as long as you’re willing to shell out the dough for publication. In the real world of publishing, an author doesn’t *pay* to have his book published.
In a lot of ways, self-publishing is a sort of “get-rich-quick scheme.” -sj
