Long load times in TES: Oblivion? Try this
If you've been experiencing
long load times for The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, then it could be you have one of the rare cases of
over-fragmentation of the hard drive. The idea here was to use the hard drive to substantially cache the data,
therefore optimizing gameplay. However it turns out that some systems are getting bogged down by the move. Anything
from menus to sounds can load too slow. There's a harmless solution for this: "To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the “Bethesda Softworks” logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared."
Has anyone out there had this problem? If so, did this help?

Thanks, that fixed my problem!
Before I was getting 5-7 minute delays when loading a merchant's store in the Imperial City.
After clearing up all the demos, trailers, and Live Arcade games I didn't need anymore and doing your suggestion my load times are near non-existant.

Could someone tell me how you reset the 360? Do they mean restart? Its not very clear.

By the way, the load times and constant stutters and sound delays have made the game pretty much unplayable for me so i'm pleased that there is a possible solution as I was about to take the game back.
I couldn't walk 10 feet outside without freezing, i couldn't open my inventory and trunks and barrels without freezing and its a little distracting when you slash at someone with a sword and 10 seconds later you hear the "Swish". Don't get me started on the 10 minute load times.
I thought maybe my 360 was broke so i threw in burnout and boy was it nice to be back back zipping along in the next generation rather than the chugging and choking at the mercy of the ZX81 speeds of Elder Scrolls.
For now I will Close Shut The Game Of Oblivion.
That is until someone tells me how to "RESET" my 360?
thanks for listening.

ok so i spoke to someone at 2k games and they said that to "Reset" is to simply turn your 360 off and on. Then as the game is loading hold down the A button until the bethesda logo appears. It is advisable to do this everytime you play the game.
I also called up the xbox 360 tech support line and they gave me the classic microsoft tech response to ALL issues, "You need to completely wipe your 360's hard drive" DO NOT DO THIS!!
When I told the 2k tech support guy about the microsoft solution, he didn't seem to care even when i told him it would piss of a lot of gamers. Good going 2k games, you've already got our money so whaddya you care?
peace

I was also having load problems (30-60 seconds) when walking outdoors, 10+ minutes to load a saved game, delays in bringing up maps/inventory. I tried the cache suggestion above, no luck. I returned the disk for another one, no luck. I finally removed the downloaded content (Orrery and Horse Armor) from my hard drive, and I've had no further problems.
