First off, let me extend the olive branch of peace to our new neighbors at PS3Fanboy. Here's a snazzy

I know it's not a 1: 1 comparison, and perhaps the quality of the grab is poor, but do Kutaragi & Ko. really think Xbox 360 fanboys aren't going to bust balls over this stuff? Because that looks painfully PS2.5. Maybe it's from the PSP version.
It's not like Sony has a history of grossly exaggerating the capabilities of their consoles and passing off CGI fluff as gameplay.

These are very early shots, but serious fanboys should prepare for a little disappointment. Sony will need some serious launch titles to merit the kind of $$$ this thing is going to cost.
I'm not going to spend $500+ on a system until I see something a little more compelling than this and those dreadful Untold Legends screenshots.

Hehehe, that looks like this tech demo of a buggy racing game I used to have. Had great physics. It was written for (of all things) BeOS.

Just shows to go ya, the more things change the more they stay the same! After all that Emotion Engine hype, turns out Valve were the ones to finally do justice to in-game faces. The Cell is the new Emotion Engine like orange is the new black... can't wait for the E3 hype machine.

Personally, I find PS2 fanboys funny. If we put the original Xbox hardware in the PS3 case, they would probably consider it next gen. Good graphics in HD (720p) and online features. All you'd have to do is replace any Xbox or Microsoft references with a PS3 logo.
I'm playing through Shadow of the Colossus right now, and it is sickening that it had to be put out for PS2. The graphics are horribly grainy and spotty...quite distracting. I'm just glad the PS3 won't be the worst console in the "Next Generation" like the PS2 was in this generation.

I know I'm reading a fanboy site, so I'm supposed to be blind in my love for my 360 and hate all other platforms and people who are stupid enough to buy them, but I'ma just call it like I see it.
Those PS3 screenies from GDC look very nice, especially MotorStorm and Ratchet and Clank shots. Sure, they might not look as nice as the E3 pre-rendered, supposedly gameplay, screenies, but whatever. This isn't the first time marketdroids make things look prettier than they really are.

Pixelantes Anonymous: I agree. Seeing as how I was in person for @ GDC, and I write at this very sight, I feel supremely qualified (patting myself on the back) to say that, although rough around the edges, the PS3 footage looked good.
Of course it didn't look like what they showed off last year, but only the most blind sheep would have swallowed that pill whole... these games are many months from completion, and are first-gen titles.
That being said, the key differences between Sony and MS's consoles won't be graphical, but services. It does offer some satisfaction to rebut the misinformed and obnoxious Xbox 1.5 lines though! ;)

That GDC screenshot still looks pretty good. It looks about as good as PGR3, except with some lighting issues. But lighting is usually what gets the majority of the graphical polish. Like any sane observer has known for almost a year, the PS3 and Xbox 360 have/will have very similar graphical capabilities.
Chris, you said it perfectly when you said it would be the services and not the graphics that determine the winner in this round of the console wars. MS has the edge there, since they have the years of Xbox Live experience, but Sony is coming out with guns blazing and Nintendo has the drool inducing Virtual Console. I know it's cliche, but the real winner in this fight will be the consumer.

Well, at least PS2.5 graphics look better than anything on Xbox 1.5; here's a better part, the dev kits are not even final, nor the games. But here's the best part: An Xbox fanboy site actually bothering on analyzing 'PS3 shots'. Hilarious.
Assume this is the power of the PS3. Do you remember the real-time MGS4 demonstration? I guess you don't. Oh yeah, it was done on a Beta-kit too.
And save your "BUT KOJIMA SAID THAT IT CAN BE DONE ON 360 TOO!!!", because not only it won't be, it was obvious that it would be dumbed down. You could do it on PS1, just like you could do FFVII for PS3 on PS1. roflz.

All the 360 has is ports of last gen games, GR:AW, Burnout Revenge and games you can play on the PC:
Far Cry, Oblivion, Prey, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Huxley.
Why buy $400 console when u can play all its "exclusive" games on the PC?

Oh sorry, do you think the PS3 is going to have nothing but original titles right out the gate? Expect the November release to come with a wealth of re-ported EA, multi-platform games that offer a similar lack of new features due to low dev time.

Maybe you don't realize most of the people who visit 360 fanboy are just gaming fans in general. I for one would love to own a PS3 if it has some good games, hardware and pricing going for it. I think you're missing the point of what was shown off to consumers and what the actual product seems to look like.

I agree with #23. I really could care less who puts out the system, since it's all about the games. I fully enjoy playing COD2 and Burnout Revenge (if it wasn't for Oblivion I'd also include GRAW) online and if PS3 does end up having a really good setup for online play, then I don't see why I won't pick up a PS3, too. I don't care about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, Sony or Microsoft, I just want to play fun games. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to play some Oblivion...

i own a ps2 and a xbox and the xbox is 3 times better then the ps2 and i have 3 kids and they fight over the xbox and 360 and the ps2 never was played so i sold it. but the ps2 won because japan people refuse to buy anything that's not made there and people in the states listen to the lies sony tells the cosumers.so i figure the same will happen this time i have a 360 and i never had any trouble with it in fact it had a lower return rate then the ps2 had when it came out but sony tried to streatch the truth just as they did with the ps2 when it came out and they are doing to the ps3 now this ain't the first time sony showed a game and when it came out it was nothing like they showed so youbelive the footage of mgs4 but don't count on it.and if the american people don't stop listing to the bs sony says and open their eyes and use there own minds and buy american products like people in japan buys their products they will own the us soon are doing withulr ;tois

Looks like trash. They need to work on this one for a bit longer. to match the video. Also you guys gotta remind yourselves that the Videos were animations done by some studio and were not real and Sony was pawning those off on everyone as real PS3 games running on real hardware.

I don't see what all the bashing is about. I expect the Xbox 360 and PS3 to have pretty much extremely close with their capabilties, especally graphics. The architectures of the systems are very different but all-in-all, their graphic output should be very similar. So I don't get this whole "One is better than another" thing, since their going to be pretty close.
Also, each system will have its advantages and disadvantages, its great games and its no so good games, etc. and each will have its own problems.
But if you choose Xbox 360 or PS3, you can't go wrong with either one, their both are very nice consoles.

I have watched console systems grow from little rumors to sellouts that people wait in line for 5+ hours just to get the chance to buy since the super nes... i can tell you for a fact that right about now the system and gaes are to the stage that they are trying to make sure everything runs correctly, isn buggy and that the system doesnt catch on fire... There is no way that it will be released by november and suddenly have graphice that are astronomically better than the 360 if that is what they have now... maybe that game is gonna suck or maybe that screenie just blows... i dont know i dont care to know... bad game played on a powerful system so it has good graphics doesnt change the fact that it is a bad game... i have a ps2 an xbox and a lamecube and the ps2 is horrible..the ps1 was worthless...the only systm laystation has released that i like was psp and that was only because the ds's games sucked more than the sega dreamcast..

Sure, because Hideo Kojima is too dumb to realise what he was saying when he claimed it could be achieved on the 360.
Of course, that will never do for fanboys, hence they need to re-interpret Kojima's comments to suit their purposes, by ignoring Kojima's actual comments and preferring to believe MGS4 will need to be "dumbed down" on the 360.
You should email Hideo Kojima and explain it to him because obviously you know more about the game engine and next-gen consoles than Kojima. :p

i couldnt agree more....no offense but i doubt many of you can even begin to grasp what kind of work it takes to get any of the systems to work the way they do...and you prolly also dont realize that the differences between the ps3 and xbox 360 are so miniscule that it will be pure gameplay and multiplayer that decides who "wins" ...
BUT then again there wil not really be a "winner"..why? because no one is getting driven out of buisness..there are, and always will be a fanbase for all 3 systems...so here is an idea... respect someone when they say they prefer a different system..its all opinion and means almost nothing....play the freaking game and have fun!

-About time someone said it. I am sick of these "bash the competition" fanboys, who mindlessly bash the competition of their preferred platform without actually getting an actual educated opinion of the systems/games (actually playing it for some time).
Like I said, both systems are very nice consoles and you can't go wrong with either. Both will have their own advantages of features, and disadvantages. But this generation, graphics is not a subject since they will be so similar.
So, just pick up your controller and enjoy the games your playing on your console of choice, and let the people who chose the other platforms enjoy their games. Don't come in and ruin the fun for everyone else by bashing what they have, and especially "trolling" site just because it isn't the console you own.
Also, there will obviously be people who will own both? Why? Not for the systems, its for the games on the system.
Remember, its nothing to get personal about...

Kojima never said it would be as equally stunning as it would be on PS3, they said they could make it for 360, but obviously he implies/knows it would be different (as in inferior). Hell, if not only for its relatively inferior processor, it would be for its lack of storage space.
Anyway, you went through this shit fanboys, except you are judging one of the worst looking games on, gee, I don't know... DEV KITS you dipshits. It looks better than Xbox 1.5 graphics, even when they are not even finished lol! so what the hell are you criticizing? Does that raise your egos? Gears of War doesn't look as good as MGS4, and there is no game looking as good as MGS4 coming out for 360 as of now. MGS2 looked better when it came out for PS2 than the actual E3 Demo. Look at MGS3: Subsistence and RE4, they look too damned gorgeous, better than almost any 360 game, if not every.
Oh, and at least before both consoles were unveiled, people expected a lot more from Xbox *cough* 1.3 *cough* 2 I mean, than from PS3, because Xbox 1 was more powerful than PS2.
And anyone that expected PS2 to deliver Toy Story graphics is an idiot; Especially one that became an Xbox fanboy (as if it did). Hell, the Xbox 1 CPU needed to be clocked at more than twice the speed and add an nVidia GPU to barely beat graphically the PS2 that had just a CPU and a negligible GPU, and all that when it came 1 and something years later in america, 2 years later in japan, only with an extra hard drive (Oh, and HALO! ANOTHER UNORIGINAL FPS oooohh lololz just look at japan, and don't tell me they don't buy american, since they love McDonalds, Hollywood and iPods).
So yeah, emotion engine was truly amazing for its time (given that almost everything ended up being handled by the CPU). FFX and MGS2 were much closer to their respective cut-scenes than PS1 was with any FF or RE. Now, just look at the Getaway, or MGS4 real-time demonstration and tell me it doesn't own Gears of War. If it's the cell, the Blu-ray, the 60 GB HD included in every PS3, or all, who knows.
Have fun with your half-baked product. I don't need my next-gen fix since I'll be happily playing DQVIII, Shadow of the Colossus (haven't finished em' yet!), KH2 will take a while, then Suikoden V, then Twilight Princess, and then FFXII. And all look better than any Xbox 1.5 bullshit. Oblivion? I'm oblivious about it. Halo 2? I thought you got bored with the shortest most uninnovative campaign ever, let alone 5 hours being enough to play the monotonous online missions. Yawn.

The fact that you compare GOW gameplay to the MGS4 realtime CUT-SCENE and The Getaway technology demo, shows you are clueless. The fact that you compare the clock speeds of the XBox and PS2 GPU/GS with no reference to the architectural differences, shows you are ignorant.
I provided a list of just some of Sony's PS2 hype and broken promises, I could have also mentioned the sharp anti-aliased 'The Getaway' screenshots of May 2000, which Sony claimed to be ingame, until they released the REAL screens in September 2000.

Originally I wanted xbox 360 AND ps3. Think about it, the xbox 360 stands up on it's left, the ps3 on it's right, I could stand them up next to each other. Like twin towers of power. But with all the lieing and bs'ing sony has done I just can't see buying a ps3 now. If you have to lie so much about your product, it's probably not that good.
