MS Wireless Desktop is just 360's type
SuicideNinja reports that the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 4000 (not the Bluetooth version) connects to the 360 without hassle. I'm not sure if this functionality was added with Spring update or if it always worked. Range is paltry five feet. Still, a wireless keyboard is a nice alternative to pecking out those long, babbling rants..

My Logitech Cordless Desktop Duo's keyboard has been working ever since I got the 360 back in November. Granted, the mouse and numerical key pad didn't work. But I have always been enjoying the comfort of a wireless keyboard from my couch for text messages.

almost all wireless keyboards have been working with the 360 since launch, but nobody pays attention to it until it's listed as a feature with the spring update. Whenever I told people I was using a keyboard to type them a message before the update, they're like "OMG LIAR! THATTTTZZ NOT POZZIBLE!OMGLOL"
Idiots.

I want mouse support! =(
Sam @ Jun 11th 2006 4:39PM
The question on my mind is: Does it support keyboard and mouse inputs for FPS titles?
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jun 11th 2006 5:14PM
I doubt we'll get KB & Mouse support for FPS.. Right now it's a "fair" playing field.. with everyone using controllers.
OMAC @ Jun 11th 2006 5:15PM
Give us our mouse support!
Ian Charles @ Jun 11th 2006 5:34PM
See i thought this meant it connected to the 360s wireless receiver.
If so it would of been a new feature, but this isnt.
Sam @ Jun 11th 2006 7:16PM
Funny thing about the playing field in console FPS being fair....... it's not! Forcing everyone to conform to one controller type does not increase fairness, it CRIPPLES the playing ability of those who are unable to play FPS using a thumbstick.
suicideninja @ Jun 11th 2006 7:24PM
I'm not surprised that others worked. However, I'm sure a lot of people assume that it wouldn't. Why use a wired USB keyboard if you don't have to?
What I liked about this keyboard is that I could plug it into my 360 and my gaming laptop at the same time. It works on both, without having to disconnect/reconnect anything.
Anyone try a Bluetooth version?

The problem with letting people use a mouse is that they are much more sensitive and responsive to input than a controller is. This would mean that some people playing online would have an unfair advantage. You think you'd be better off with FPS mouse support, but trust me it feels really awkward. There was a keyboard for the Xbox a while ago and playing Halo with it was BRUTAL.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jun 11th 2006 8:47PM
I think what they should do is enable KB & Mouse support for games, but once you go online, you'd have to play against your own "kind" if you will.. i.e. KB & Mouse vs KB & Mouse, and vice versa. That would be fair.

Regarding Mouse and Keyboard support for FPS titles: I used to have an adapter for the original Xbox that let me use a mouse and keyboard. Used it in Halo 2, and for once in my life I was as good as my friends. See, I play more PC than console, and the playing styles are very different. PC's have more precision in turning while controllers are easier to strafe and move with. Since I like to be able to turn when I'm aiming as opposed to strafing like everyone else the mouse and keyboard adapted really helped my playing, but didn't make me better than everyone else.
Basicly, I'm saying in terms of FPS games controllers and M&K are equals.

Buy a computer.

That is somewhat odd. THe NUMLOCK setting should be completely transparent to the host. It just receives whatever codes the keyboard generates. Does the numeric keypad work correctly when used with a PC?
asurroca @ Jun 12th 2006 12:43AM
If the wireless keyboard could work with the Xbox 360's wireless reciever by itself, that would be cool. But, what am I going to do, unplug the reciever from my desktop and plug it into the 360, or buy a second keyboard? Obviously the latter, which begs the following question: When is someone going to release a nice keyboard designed to look good next to the Xbox 360? Alternatively, will an Apple keyboard work?
GhostDoggy @ Jun 12th 2006 9:03AM
Can someone help the ignorant (me) out, here. Is the wireless keyboard support on the most recent (not really) Live update via general USB wireless and not capable of bluetooth wireless (like the gamepad controller is)?
Paul @ Jun 12th 2006 11:57AM
you want to play FPS with a mouse and keyboard, go play on a computer. You want to play on 360 and suck with a controller? practice. stop bitching
Saccia @ Jun 12th 2006 12:32PM
The Logitech wired compact keyboard works as well. I bought one a long time ago for use with my PS2 and FFXI. I plugged it in a few months ago just to see if it would work and it works just fine. It's nice to have a small compact keyboard instead of a huge fullsized one.
Sam @ Jun 12th 2006 4:24PM
"Buy a computer."
Not all games come out on PC, just so you know. If I want to play Perfect Dark or Halo, I pretty much have to use a console.
bob @ Jun 12th 2006 5:04PM
the problem is the mouse is much more accurate than the controler & faster, im good with a controler but i wud b allot better with a mouse, it will mean everyone who doesnt want to get there a***s kick by mouse users are guna have to get a mouse, ulltimatly it is a level playing field with just useing a controler, the fact that somepeople are c*** with controler doesnt mean its ok to allow mouse, you've got to blame personal abillity (or lack of).
bob @ Jun 12th 2006 5:18PM
everyone whos been playing FPS for a few years over diff system knows that allthough there are people out there who can only use mouse & somepeople who can only use controler, the simple fact is the best player use mouse not by chance but becose its the best ie: more accurate & much faster than controler, if you took the best player with a controler and pitted him against the best with mouse say 1st to 50 frags allthough the controler player wud score some frags the mouse user wud win overall everytime thats why top pro gamers recomend mouse. and thats why we shud we shud just have one control type, that way its down to personal abillity, if you cant hack it either put more practice in, change to PC or just except the fact your not upto scratch.

I must be one of the few looking for KB&M solutions in order to better use messaging and Live Navigation. :)
BTW, sometimes speed and accuracy resulting from a KB&M in a FPS game will not save you. Sometimes luck runs out and someone better than you will 0wn you.
