Pay to WATCH Madden 07 (if you're stupid)

Hey guess what? If you're an idiot that can't stand to wait for even a shred of Madden 07, you can grab a pay-per-view preview of the game starting August 4th. That's right, a behind the scenes marketing video -- the kind that most companies freely distribute on the Internet -- will be available on your TV for a mere 20 dollars American. EA and ESPN should be reviled for this, and rightfully so. The sad thing is that this will make money for EA. There are people stupid enough to pay EA to advertise a product they were already planning on buying.
So, in conclusion, if any of you are even considering this, don't. You'll be feeding the hungriest damned company around and likely starting a very bad trend. Sorry for the rant, but this is absolute BS.

I really can't imagine who would go in on this. It's really just... dumb. I'm giving myself an aneurysm just trying to rationalize the idea of it.
DeddyLger @ Jul 25th 2006 6:50PM
id rather watch my dick shrink.
tqp23 @ Jul 25th 2006 6:51PM
i believe that ea$port$ owes us all a preview for free...after having to play madden 2006 for the past year we have had to deal with personal fouls everytime we SACK the qb, suffer through blown calls without the possibility of a challenge, figure out a technique to fake out your friends when your playing them so they don't know which play you are picking, etc.
p.s. a ref on the field might be nice too?
TxdoHawk @ Jul 25th 2006 7:31PM
The NFL exclusivity license can't end fast enough. I want my NFL 2kN games back. =(
Tybo @ Jul 25th 2006 7:49PM
I rather buy the Horse Armor then this BS. I surpise they didnt put this on the Marketplace and sell it for 1600 points.
AoE @ Jul 25th 2006 8:44PM
Phew, thanks Tybo! I was starting to worry... 4 replies to a post involving videogames and money, and not one of them thought to mention horse armor. Glad you've got us covered!

Deddy, CLASSIC!!! Great line.......EA has brass balls......so if they release a demo four days before the game comes out (NCAA) there gonna charge us?? F@ckers!! I wish Iwas n't dying for this one, or I would boycott EA......pieces of shit they are!!!

Can it get any smaller?
EA Sucks @ Jul 25th 2006 10:15PM
Who's going to pay for it?? The same chumps who wait in line and spend $50+ for the same stupid Madden game every year. $50 for an updated roster, slightly tweaked gameplay and a few graphical updates when a new system comes out.. $mart!
Dwayne @ Jul 25th 2006 10:57PM
They would have to pay me to watch it. I will never buy an EA NFL game ever again. You should boycott this game and all of the following remakes of it.

To #9 - I couldn't of said it better myself.
I dont like madden games, Nor the fact that no other titles can use real nfl names!

I'd rather watch DeddyLüger's dick shrink.......then make it grow :)
EA SUCKS!
WE WANT OUR 2K Sports back.
I would never pay $20 for a f'ing advertisement.
Know what I would pay $20 for.....this funny ass t-shirt.
5ftassassin @ Jul 26th 2006 2:19AM
Can any one say micro payments for roster updates? I will not be buying 07 after the waste of money 06 was for the 360.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jul 26th 2006 3:48AM
Sure Live roster updates would be a smart & great move on EA's part... but when you got millions willing to pay $60 for it, why bother??
GhostDoggy @ Jul 26th 2006 5:38AM
Live was great, but now its gone the Nickle & Dime modus.

Argh! That's the last time I post angry. Fixed.
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Jul 26th 2006 10:07AM
I think this is good.
This way the marketing video/preview is not taking airtime on some other channel. Not that 60 minutes less Real World Tour of Champions vs. Road Rules Rejects 2003 episode 783245344 would be any better, but still.
joba @ Jul 26th 2006 10:18AM
$20, huh?! The freakin' audacity of EA! The E can ask the A to bend over slowly if you ask me. If I had one wish in the entire world, it would be for NFL 2K7 to be on store shelves @ $39.99 the week before Madden '07 drops. I have been an avid EA Sports vetoer since 2K Sports begin making games.
EdgeOne @ Jul 26th 2006 10:24AM
Imagine that, a company trying to make money off of franchise - HOW DARE THEY! So go on all you walking Tommy Hilfiger billboards; hop in that Nike Swoosh adorned $500 POS ride (with $1000 rims) and pick up a copy. Dump it on your moms computer and post it to youtube.com so the rest of us can enjoy it for free while you well up with a false sense of pride for “screwing the system”. The word needs ditch-diggers too, Danny boy.
daily360.net @ Jul 26th 2006 11:13AM
Buy ALL your EA games second hand. Save a few bucks and don't give EA 1c.
$20 no less! That's hilarious.
My most wanted game: next gen 2K football. NFL or not. C'mon 2K, make it happen!
SmartriX @ Jul 26th 2006 11:25AM
Theres no need to buy a Madden game every year that it comes out, if you buy one every 3 years or so you won't be missing very much, with the exception of the launched 06 360 version.
Anderson Imes @ Jul 26th 2006 12:21PM
I wonder when I will stop being surprised by EA's greed?
They are just trying it out to see if they can really make money on something this lame. If we don't buy it, it won't happen again. So don't buy it.
Thomas Crymes @ Jul 26th 2006 2:12PM
There really is too much venom here. EA isn't evil for chargine for a preview (they have more insideous things in their closet). They are just trying to milk you for a buck. You don't have to buy it.
I'm guessing that if few people buy it, then they won't ever try it again. $20 (or whatever they are charging) is way too much. How would I ever expect to be satisfied with a purchase like that. If it was $5 maybe I could laugh off the price.
------------
It would be nice if they would post updated rosters for micropayments, but we all know that won't happen. Their revenue would dry up. I will defend EA in one respect. They do make minor improvements to their games each year. And if I'm a die hard Madden player who loves the game, I don't know that I want the game to change that much. I just want my updated rosters.
What it will take is a company other than EA to release a football game and offer roster updates through XBLM. I think if a company released a generic football game (sans NFL license) and made fake players to ape the real ones, and advertised roster updates via XBLM, I think the game will sell well and maybe force EA to follow suit.
Other than that it is $60 a year to play Madden. That is pretty much how you have to look at it.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Jul 26th 2006 3:20PM
EA always manages to snatch disgrace from the jaws of goodwill right when it counts.
Waccoon @ Jul 27th 2006 4:32AM
Am I to believe that people cannot restrain themselves from buying another Madden game? Doesn't anyone know the meaning of "boycott?"
Not to get off topic, but Toys for Bob are trying to convince Activision that a new Star Control game is a good idea (like, DUH!). Someone on Slash-Dot commented that while Madden has 50,000 incarnations with more on the way, a publisher cannot realize that a sequel to one of the best and most versitile games ever made is a feasable idea? How sad.
EA H8er @ Jul 27th 2006 2:07PM
How ironic.
EA is selling a PREVIEW (nonplayable, yet) of a football game for the same price as their last real competition, NFL 2K5.
Freakin' Vampires.
