G.O.W. on sale before Emergence Day

CliffyB had some interesting remarks for his brother, who just so happens to be a blogger for Gearheads of War. What did he say? I'm glad you asked. It breaks down like this. Emergence Day, as we all know, is November 12th. Sure, that's a pretty BIG deal, but there's more. The game will begin shipping on November 7th, and:
"They'll be able to sell it the minute they get it so some of those stores will have the game well before the 12th."
So there you have it, Emergence Day is not so BIG after all. If any of you manage to get it on November 7th, let us know and we'll write it up. Surely Bungie has something to do with this. (117, get it? No? Too nerdy?)

You mean "street date" is being thrown out the window in favor of "shipping date" (dated embargo vs. when you get it? What's the point of Emergence Day? Does "Emergence Day" mean something else then?

I think I remember reading that in the storyline of the game, "Emergence Day" is the day that the Locust Horde emerged from underground. I think they really wanted the release date to be strict like Halo 2's release date, but since it's so close to the PS3 launch I think they're reconsidering to just get it out there ASAP.

Gears of War. So hot right now.

I am guessing they just mean they won't have the typically super-strict regulations on selling Gears of War before its release date. Most game developers are usually very strict with their release dates, some stores go as far as firing some employees for stock games on the shelf before their release date.

"some stores go as far as firing some employees for stock games on the shelf before their release date"
This is because some developers will fine an offending store $500 (and up) for each copy sold before release date that is documented with a receipt.
