X06: Gears of War gameplay is bloody good

We snagged this X06 video of Gears of War gameplay for your enjoyment. Filled with lots of gunfire, blood, and apparently ineffective grenades, it's sure to delight both young and old. The grenades are used to close up the wormholes that the locusts are pouring out of.

I think I'm the only person not excited for this game. Weird. Ghost Recon seems more fun, and far less "Rob Liefieldish" in art style.

GOW will be a beautiful game but from that trailer the AI looks about as dumb as a brick. Come on. Your hiding behind a 3'x3' block and they don't try and come around you? Just seems like it may be too easy. I'm sure to find out as I've had the game on reserve for months and can't wait to try it.

I also got bored watching that. I'm suprised people don't get bored of playing those kinda games. They're all the same but with different characters and story lines. You might as well just replay Halo.

And what was with the A.I? Towards the end the main character ducked next to a bollard and the monster right next to him didn't even bother to shoot him!

The only good thing about the game looks like the good graphics but meh i'd rather play an interesting and fun game.

The demo was set to "casual" aka easy mode, just to show off how the game works. Of course on higher difficulties the AI will be much better.

I'm not sure but I don't think you can run and fire at the same time unless your planing on using a me lee move. In the video all it shows is covering then firing. Any1 else notice that.

Why is everyone dissing the grenades? I've thrown grenades; there isn't a lot of fire and flying cork in real life. That's just movie BS.

Granted, it could be argued that "Gears of War" isn't exactly going for realism ... I'm just saying that the grenades look fine to me. They may not have a huge kill radius, but they flush enemies out of their hiding places.

I wouldn't worry about the AI for this reason: demos are always set on super easy settings, and the AI is neutered as a consequence. The reason for this is relatively simple: if a demo is outrageously difficult it'll turn off potential buyers and fewer copies of the game will be sold when it does get released. Think about it for a second. Let's say GOW's AI clearly surpasses that found in FEAR (which is currently the best AI you can play against), and that the game, even on a normal setting, is unforgiving. Let's say that, after waiting for months, you get to play this version of GOW as a demo. However, no matter how good you are, the Locust Horde tears you to ribbons in a hail of bullets. You die a few times, then give up because it seems like in impassable obstacle. With your negative experience with the demo, more likely than not, you wouldn't buy the full fledged game.

Too many people forget that demos are just to showcase the game, to draw in as many people possible. If it's too hard, like I said, people won't buy the full version; why would you want to spend $60 on something you can't even manage to get a fourth of the way through? Games have never sat on shelves for being too easy, but quite a few have for being too hard for the average player.

I'm not saying GOW's AI is better than FEAR's, btw, but I hope it is (after all, FEAR set the bar high, and I think all developers should try to surpass it). Oh well, I guess we'll all find out in November, eh?

If a game isn't available to buy or rent how good can it be? All other games can pale in comparison but if no one can play it at home then how good is to that person? Been listening for almost a year now and have the same whooppie sense I had back then.

If I want hype I'll watch some television commercials.

Gears of War looks AMAZING!!!

The gameplay looks incredible! I think the reason why the grenades don't blow enemies apart in this demo is because the enemies are quite aways away from the grenades when they land. The grenades do blow up the walls in the game, and the structures. And the one guy said that grenades are used to close holes that enemies come out of, too.

Gears of War looks like a GREAT game to me!

I think Gears of War will be the Game of the Year! Just like it received all of the Best Game of the Show awards at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo!
