Gears demo rumor is shot down (again)

Epic guru, Mark Rein, has once again shot down the ever persistent Gears of War demo rumor. It flared up again yesterday when web denizens spotted the Gears of War demo graphic above.
"Just saw the dog tag image with the "Microsoft points". It just isn't true. There is no demo coming out before the game ships and I have no idea if we'll do one after the game ships or not. Right now there are no plans to do one as I said earlier in this thread. I have asked Microsoft to take that image down."
It's kind of weird when developers have to ask Microsoft to take something down. Makes us wonder how serious the split between Microsoft PR and developers really is.
[Thanks, aragorn]

Well, we're talking about a satellite (correct me if I am wrong, but it was on the British official xbox site) of the main pr division of the publisher of the game in question. I would assume (and hope) that said PR satellite is across the pond in the country they're marketing to. I'd be shocked if they don't have a certain amount of autonomy. Moreover, since Epic is the developer, I doubt they have direct access (or at the very least regular direct access) to the PR guys, let alone the PR guys in other countries. It's probably a slightly better situation for developers owned by MS, but as departmentalized as companies of Microsoft's size become; I'm sure even between internal divisions communication is not what it should be...

Whenever I see a demono-less condition on a game I have to wonder if the game is much less than its reported hype.
I guess this means a rental-before-you-buy situation.

I refuse to buy any game that I dont play first with a demo or renting it, hell most of the games I rent barely last the whole weekend, without renting I'd have wasted alot of good cash on short games (tho I did go buy Shadow Of The Colossus even after renting and beating it over the weekend)but that was because I wanted to support the company to make more shit like that

Bungie had to rush images to the group doing xbox.com because they slapped together some pretty horrendous images for the marketplace and xbox.com...
...so maybe thats a bit more indication as to how disconnected the xbox.com team is from developers...
