Def Jam: Icon gameplay video

There's a new video of Def Jam: Icon on GameVideos. 1UP has a lengthy preview as well. The biggest "feature" of Icon is how heavily the music interacts with the game. Buildings jump in rhythm to the music, explosions occur in time with the beats, even the fighting seems to be choreographed to the music. The concept sounds interesting on paper, but this video is anything but interesting. On the contrary, it's kind of boring.
Now, gameplay videos of fighting games can be hard to judge, especially when the players are inexperienced, and it's obvious that these two don't know how to play the game -- in fact, if you listen to the video, you could guess that these guys are just waiting for their Grey Goose and cranberry to show up. Still, the graphics are alright and the concept is new. Hopefully, we'll see some better videos -- or better yet, a demo -- before the game releases in March. Watch the video after the break.
Well, what do you think?

how about..... Slowest fighting game ever. Geez...what about that grab, it was in complete slow motion....

Yeah, it all looks slow mo or like it has a frame rate problem. And the cracked, dancing environment is lame and really doesn't add anything. I was very excited when I first saw the screens of Fight Night Round 3 and Def Jam in Game Informer. Fight Night turned out to look exactly like the screens, but Def Jam looks weak compared to it's screens.
Also, this game makes no sense. Why are the guys popping off the ground like that? Because the environment is dancing? You don't go making everything look all realistic, then cut your environment up into blocks and make it dance. Go one way or the other. Poor Def Jam...used to be awesome.

#2 the guys are popping off the ground because some charge attack with the bass of the music. All the environment and moves are planned off the music. I don't know if there is sound to this video because I'm at work but I think it'll make more since if there was sound on the vidoe...

Looks like it has some potential.. but I really hope the game play is faster.. Hopefully that was just some glitch or somethin, cuz that was boring stuff to watch.

Why in the hell does this game look like a damn soda commercial?
