Gears of War trailer remixes
Many people, myself included, thought that the music selection in the latest Gears of War trailer was inspired. It served both to highlight the action and to contrast the rawk music that we usually get in game commercials. Still, not everyone liked it, and Aeropause decided to take it one step further. They took the trailer and set it to several different tracks, ranging from country to 80's ballads. In so doing they have proven an old adage: everything needs more cowbell (see above video). Watch our second favorite video after the break.
What's scary is that a lot of these songs -- even the silly ones -- actually fit really well. We liked Aerosmith's "Amazing" in particular. So, we really enjoyed these, but we need to see one set to "Ring of Fire" and another one to "Don't Fear the Reaper." Then, we can talk. Who's gonna make one for us? You know you want to.

I'll do some if people want to give me suggestions
Dracula Jones @ Oct 27th 2006 6:32PM
OK, I need to see one set to "Ping Island/Lightning Strike Rescue Op" from the Life Aquatic soundtrack.
Zach @ Oct 27th 2006 6:51PM
I still think Mad World fit the trailer perfectly....the slowness of it really set the pace....these songs...they don't work as well it seems, to fast.
KillerGreen @ Oct 27th 2006 7:02PM
I agree the slow songs, especially the REM one gave the video an interesting feel but how bout a nice heavy-fast song. I played Lamb Of God's "Laid to Rest" to it and it fits pretty well.
Saocom @ Oct 27th 2006 7:12PM
I like more Mad World.
ExTester @ Oct 27th 2006 7:14PM
With all these remixes that people make of this trailer, its just goes to show how little taste some people really have. Its sad, cause Mad World is the perfect fit to it.
Torak @ Oct 27th 2006 7:36PM
I really do love what they did with the ad originally! The only thing I would have added (because the soundtrack is perfect) is for the creature he runs in on to audibly roar/screech/whatever it is big ugly things with glowy faces do.
Richard (Aeropause.com) @ Oct 27th 2006 7:43PM
I made all these new trailers and I do agree that the mad world song is the best one. I simply did all of these to get the people who complained about Mad World to see that things can be interpreted many different ways.

I actually enjoyed it, after a bit. Found it to be a little strange at first, but then it sunk in.
Kinda had a halo-like effect on me. Most FPS don't have that kind of backing track, was kinda emotional, man.

Cool stuff guys! I guess now we know exactly how excited people are about this game (not that it wasn't evident before)
@ ExTester, quit being a hater and let fanboys have their fun. So what if they don't have taste in your opinion? Keep in mind tastes vary widely, and there are just as many people out there who think your taste in music is sucky too. ;)
bob @ Oct 27th 2006 8:52PM
Mad World is pretty cool, in a Donnie-Darko-obsessed-emo-faggot kinda way, but these are just plain horrible.

If it could be timed right (haven't tried, as I'm no A/V whiz), The Beatles' "Golden Slumbers" might be an interesting one.
While I did enjoy the Kill Bill one, as well as Land of Confusion (shoulda used the Genesis version), I don't think much could surpass Mad World.

Intangible 360 @ Oct 27th 2006 10:15PM
Couldn't you theoretically do this with anything? Personally I think we should just leave well enough alone and appreciate the excellent job Epic did, just my two cents.
Saocom @ Oct 27th 2006 10:19PM
This is the best i can do , modified audio at the ending.

We arnt trying to do better than them or anything, its just for the hell of doing it.
Morgon @ Oct 27th 2006 10:23PM
Oi, please keep the 'urbanistics' out of my game, Saocom.
Although, if you want to go that route, you can always do it with the Weird Al parody, "White and Nerdy" - Although Mr. Fenix isn't very nerdy, is he...
ts8lemonade @ Oct 27th 2006 10:30PM
That video + Soil's "Breakin me down" would be so kickass.

Here's mine, to Three Days Grace's "Scared". It sucks, but I don't care. And I just started using the editing program, so I didn't really know how to do much with the audio.
KillerGreen @ Oct 27th 2006 11:22PM
^^^ Ya, why are people getting defensive over this? The trailer was awesome, right?? We are just putting our own music over the beautiful piece of footage... Nobody is attacking GoW or the music, rather just havin' a little fun.
hot zizzy @ Oct 28th 2006 12:50AM

Nothing beats the Gary Jules ad. I was amazed to see a video game commercial that set itself apart from all the other obnoxious commercials and actually made something beautiful to watch. I think it really shows what amazing care the the team at Epic is putting into Gears. If I hadn't been sold on the game before I saw that commercial I would have been afterwards.
KineticOnline @ Oct 28th 2006 9:31AM

Well every 360 user fears getting a red ring, so you can take what you want from it. ;)

I was just in a movie theater to watch Saw 3 and I was praying for the theatrical Gears of War ad. Boom, there is was, and it looked amazing in the theater. I think Xbox 360 will rock everything.
Morgon @ Oct 28th 2006 2:41PM
Alright so I got bored and have suddenly become fascinated with this.
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Remix)

I'm a big fan of matching beats to scene changes, and matching on-screen things to words, so look for the subtleties. :)
Marc @ Oct 28th 2006 5:09PM
so i cant really do the editing, but i think it would work really well with Warriors code by Dropkick Murphys, lyrics work REALLY well, can someone make a quick one??

There is no doubt that this rendition of Tears For Fears "Mad World" was the perfect pick for this GOW trailer. It's even more suited than the Tears For Fears original. I really thought the atmosphere it created really took me back. Very emotional if you let the song get into your head.
The other two that I thought came closest where Queen's "Who Wants To Live Forever", and the other Tears For Fears track, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World".
Nothing else came close.
