360 Fanboy reader, PiNPOiNT, sent us some pictures of his newly finished
Half-Life 2 case mod. We have to say, it's flippin' sweet. Even the lighting in the photograph is topnotch. The left side of the case (at right) features a cut away window with the
HL2 logo in the corner. The right side features another logo which is raised off the surface of the case. All in all, it's some very impressive work. There is no denying that the
Half-Life 2 megapackage coming to the 360 is worth celebrating, but we hope we won't upset PiNPOiNT when we remind him that the game was
delayed. Hopefully, his spiffy mod will brighten his days until the game releases this summer. Check out bigger, beefier images after the break.

I'm glad you enjoyed it guys :) It was a ton of fun to make, its actually my first ever case mod i've ever made :) I was thinking of adding some dramatic up lighting by installing a cold cathode light along the bottom of the case on the inside. I'm not sure how much of the fan duct would block the lighting though. I like the idea of a crow bar, but where would i put it? Less is more sometimes i guess, perhaps to many more details would be overkill.
The whole project took about a month of my random spare time i found here and there, Most of the time was wasted waiting for good warmer days to spray paint outside. Its starting to snow up here in the great white north, so those days were hard to come by. The great thing about a project like this is what you learn from along the way and i can't wait to start another one :)

Looks kinda awesome, my only dislike is the silver panel at the front, some how it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the mod to me :(

Now, that is hot. Good job PinPoint. It just oozes radioativity.

I always worry about potentially damaging my system so I haven't tried a mod as of yet. I was thinking I might try picking up a used system at some point after the holidays and see what I can create. I am thinking about doing a GoW or Halo theme. Can you give any advice from what you learned on your mod?

I like to learn things the hard way and did learn a lot from the way i did things on this project.
here's a few time saving tips
- Make sure you have somewhere good to spraypaint, dont attempt to do it indoors just cause its raining out side.
- Cut the window slightly smaller then the shape of the hole of the window, so that you have room to install the molding to hold it in place
- Plan your design first and try out lots of different ides at that stage before jumping right in, i figured out a whole bunch of potential problems that way first
- Get other people to look at it before you start and also while your working on it, its easy to get to close to a project and it helps to get it looked at with a fresh pair of eyes.
Here's a pic of some of the concept ideas as i was designging it. Next time i will make sure to make a work log documenting everything i did along the way, i didnt think of that till i was nearly done.
