Gamer Andy has posted a letter to Epic games on behalf of all
Gears fans. In his lengthy post Andy writes his and what he feels is most of the community's opinion, trying to get the point across that everyone wants changes in the current multiplayer system, to fix the implementation, or at the least acknowledge the problems with multiplayer. This has been a hot issue since before
Emergence Day and really hasn't been brought to the lime light on such a large scale. Gamer Andy is trying to get fans backing his post by
Digging his article and get Epic's attention. I
wrote a post a couple weeks ago comparing
Halo 2's multiplayer to
Gears of War and I totally agree with what Andy has to say. Let's help Gamer Andy get some attention and get answers to this annoying multiplayer fiasco ... Epic we just want answers.

Hey X360F,
Wanted to thank you guys for helping us get the word out - Epic made a great game, and there are alot of the hardcore fans out there who would like to see them remedy this one little flaw and make Gears the game that keeps Halo 2 off the top of the Charts :)
Cheers Dustin

I dug it.

You know what they need is a way to change maps and options in multiplayer. I mean how could they not let us do that.. You have to start a new room everytime you want to go in and change anything.

The multiplayer feels rushed.

Its werid that Gamer Andy doesnt mention anything about the voice chat problem. Im sure any of you that play a lot of games have seen this. You can't hear people sometimes that join after the first match. I'd say bugs like this are a way bigger issue than gripes that he has that lobbys don't work as he'd like. Also I get into a gears match in less that 5 minutes, 20 minutes to get into a player match I haven't seen, and I've played hundreds.
PeteL @ Nov 22nd 2006 8:45AM
You can just set up a private lobby with 8 friends and the problem is solved. I agree with 3 and 5, the voice issue and the ability to make changes in the lobby are more important.

Well AzHat I'm glad you get into games easier than I do. Monday evening I tried getting into ANY game (ranked or unranked) for almost 25 minutes before giving up and playing Dig Dug.
The one lobby I did get into was a racial slur shout match between two little kids and another older guy that should have known better.
I've not noticed the voice chat issue all too much but that is probably because I don't hear people chat all that much (which is a shame).
I think Andy's post does a very good job and pointing out some issues that make it very difficult to enjoy the multiplayer parts of this game.
I hope Epic actually comments on these issues and not just continue to kill threads in their forums.
We are not trying to be critical we just want to enjoy the product of their hard work. These issues keep us from being able to do that.
Good work Andy!

The only problems i have encounterd in multiplayer have been firstly trying to GET in to a game... "you have been disconnected" or what ever it ses every time i try to connect.
The glich ingame where u get stuck, and the anoying, once the games over, your outa the lobby (CoD style)
I would b 100% happier if just these where fixed.

Does no one remember that Epic already said they're working on a patch?
Brian @ Nov 22nd 2006 3:10PM
A patch addressing what issues there #9 Matthew Mac?
Matthew Mac @ Nov 22nd 2006 5:44PM
#10
I don't remember the specifics, but Epic said they were working on a patch to "fix the online problems" mostly with the matchmaking I think. I'm pretty positive this site had the the story up, too, but I could be wrong.

I haven't experienced "rampant" cheating, but I've seen the voice problem happen to others and joining a ranked match for me always seems to fail. I end up spending more time trying to join matches than actually playing.

Try testing your Xbox Live connection on the dashboard. If your NAT is set to Moderate or Strict instead of Open then that's your problem.
The best way to fix this is to give your 360 a dedicated IP address, set the DNS, Gateway and add the dedicated IP to the DMZ on your router. Now reset your router by unplugging the power cord.
Just remember to reset your router before jumping on live.

Wow, aside from the voice problem I hadn't really noticed anything but a weak multiplayer offering. Keep in mind my reference point if co-op and the overly limited two-player is insufficient for myself and my friends.
I suppose that since I play private-gaming only I never really noticed any potential other problems with the multiplayer, and the same could be said for single-player.
I would hope they do something to calm the masses since they've sold a mmillion copies now.
Ze0de @ Nov 29th 2006 7:58PM
I think many of you will find that the not getting into a game problems stem from your router or firewall settings.
If your using a router with a moderate to high NAT setting you are in some cases unable to locate or join games. This can be changed by altering your routers settings or creating a NAT Pinhole using the IP address of your 360.
As far as bugs go, PLEASE, OH PLEASE EPIC, FIX THE VOICE BUG!!! The whole game is about team work and team talk, how can we when we cant talk to our team! Pretty please? lol
