Microsoft lets it slip: Gears is a trilogy

CliffyB can deny it all he wants, but Gears of War is getting a sequel, two sequels in fact. In a recent interview with GameDaily, Jeff Bell, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing for Interactive Entertainment Business (say that three times fast), confirmed that GOW is a planned trilogy. To wit:
"The goal of this ad is to establish Marcus Fenix as the hero of the Gears of War trilogy."
Bell was of course referring to the now infamous "Mad World" ad for Gears of War. For those interested, the interview also discusses Microsoft's strategy in the burgeoning console wars, but really, who cares about that, right? Gears of War is a trilogy, just like that other game we could mention. And trilogies, as we all know, are the new hotness.

I bet its was intentinal, to stir up buzz all over the internets...there is no doubt that this game will see a trilogy state. Im talking about what the guy is saying, I dont think he just "Let it slip." We'll see if he gets fired.

Did anyone heard about PC release? I read somewhere that first Gears of War would be released on PC. Sorry, but I lost the source

ugg. i get so tired of the word "infamous" being misused. it's not just another way of saying "famous".
in‧fa‧mous
–adjective
1. having an extremely bad reputation: an infamous city.
2. deserving of or causing an evil reputation; shamefully malign; detestable: an infamous deed.

The ad is arguably infamous. At least it is on our site. We posted so many stories and remixes on that ad that people got sick of it. Hence, infamous. The word, like many things, is subjective.

Thanks for your response, Richard. I agree that the word is subjective, and I'm glad you at least knew what it meant when you wrote it (most don't).
But still, I really don't think that ad can objectively be called infamous. The truth is, it was a great ad -- powerful, simple, pure. Sure it got a lot of people talking, but just because people got sick of seeing it over and over again (because it was so good) or made remixes doesn't make the ad *itself* infamous. On the contrary, the ad got the attention of many non-gamers and achieved its purpose in a very non-disgraceful way. An infamous ad would be one that is *inherently* scandalous or disgraceful, like something racist, sexist, etc.

I saw this coming a mile away, and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, if the next one is as short as this one was, it might end up being a rental. I completed the game on all 3 difficulty levels and got all the COG tags and all the offline achievements in about 5 days. Thats at about 4 maybe 5 hours a day also, I wasn't playing all night. It was pretty easy and pretty short, even with that said, I think it is the best shooter I have ever played, including the halo series. Second in fun only to my new Wii, which (since i have beaten Gears) I cannot put down. Lastly, Marcus Pheonix is the most badass mo-fo ever.

I wonder if Marcus Fenix, or someone from the world of GOW, will appear in the recently announced next installment of the Dead OR Alive series

Did anyone here believe, even for a second, that Gears of War wasn't going to be a trilogy? Especially after it's Halo-sized hype, rave reviews, and solid sales?
Gears of War and Halo. Now Microsoft has TWO huge killer apps for their console.
Let's see if Sony "accidentally" says Resistance will be a trilogy now. lol
