Small Arms hits XBLA, shoots it in face

It has been a long time coming, but Small Arms has made it (after all) to Xbox Live Arcade. Sure, it brings 4-player rapid-fire blasting action to the Arcade, but we all know that its major innovation is the introduction of psychotic Mexican chickens to videogames. It's a milestone that is long overdue. We're getting on in just a few minutes to try this puppy out, so all the working stiffs out there can rest assured we'll have impressions soon. While we're at it, we'll see if we can't find a Gastronaut employee so we can grab the awesome "Six Degrees" achievement. With any luck, the whole readership of 360 Fanboy will be "infected" in no time!

I already purchased it - fun, but I hoped the graphics would be a touch 'crisper'... when I saw the videos online, I assumed it was compression and video framerate that 'softened' the image. I'm sure people would scream if it looked 'cartoony' but I'm going to vote for something a bit more colorful after a late night GOW marathon. GT = rash773

Great game, has a few acheivement issues (2 of them wont unlock) but a great game, well worth the points

I'd like to get that achievement, personally. Do they actually tell you the gamer tags of the developers out there that have it?
My gamertag is Lime Balthazar if anyone wants to play or share that. I don't have a headset, so don't get mad if I'm silent lol.

I downloaded and played for many hours last night. I completed the mission mode, and battled on live a bit. I have came across my six degrees achievement (didn't take long). I would give the game a 85/100, and would recommend it to most. As already stated, the graphics could be crisper, and the mission mode didn't take long to defeat. Though, the real enjoyment in this game will be Live. Happy gaming, look for me "blynkj".

No real quibbles with Small Arms -- just a killer little online shooter. Downloaded this morning and played a couple games before work. The graphics are pretty decent, in my opinion. Gameplay is super fun, with lots going on.
Small Arms represents what we need more of on Xbox Live: Original Quality Content. The Defenders and Pac Mans have their place... but give us more like Small Arms.

One more note -- I got the six degrees achievement after 2 games online this morning (just realized it). I think that achievement is going to catch like VD... pretty soon everyone will have it ;-).

I completely agree with SNAPDRAG0N. I played a few games before work as well. The graphics look fine IMO. The gameplay is where it's at. Can't wait to battle some friends.

"Do they actually tell you the gamer tags of the developers out there that have it?"
I know that Gastronaut Studios has one itself: "gastronauts."
I'm going to try and play with GastronautDon, if I find him, then you can just get the achievement from me :)

Getting up at 6 am just to play the developers classic.
What The Geek @ Nov 22nd 2006 11:52AM
this game's frickin awesome... I totally already got the six degrees achievement, and I can honestly say this is the best thing to hit XBLA yet.

Sweet! Looks like it's living up to the hype. I've got a whopping 2000 Microsoft points burning a hole in my.. Xbox. Guess I'll get the infection today as well ;)

Small Arms FTW!!
SNAPDRAG0N @ Nov 22nd 2006 1:14PM
How about the killer weapons in the game? Gatling gun? Gatling shotgun? Arrows? Exploding arrows? Sniper rifle with laser designator? All while wearing being a kitty cat, a crazy chicken, or an armored freak from the 17th century. Doens't get any better than this ;-). I need a bigger LCD television (or need to sit closer to the screen!).

Anyone got any secrets on beating the last boss in mission mode? I think I broke my hand in frustration trying to defeat 3 enemies with homing missle launchers.
