Dark Sector faces the ch, ch, changes

Dark Sector has undergone some significant changes over the years. Way back in 2004, Dark Sector was revealed as the "first" next gen game. It was going to blow our minds whenever the mysterious "Xbox 2" finally showed up. A trailer for the game was released, featuring a man in a cybernetic ninja suit performing sneaking around on a space station. Later trailers revealed that the game was about man reaching the outer edges of our solar system, or "the dark sector." A new trailer is now available on Marketplace, and it's, shall we say, different. It looks like the developers have dropped the space theme altogether, opting instead for Eastern Europe. We know, we know ... space, Eastern Europe, what's the difference, right? Makes perfect sense. Oh, and apparently Dark Sector has something to do with the Cold War now. Oh, oh, and our hero no longer has a cybernetic ninja suit, but is instead infected by something that grants him special powers. He does have a new badass blade thing, though, and that counts for something.
For posterity's sake, we have embedded both the old and new trailers after the break. Watch them both and see how much a game can change in two years.
Old trailer: Space, space marines, spider tanks.
New trailer: Eastern Europe, guards, dogs. Maybe by next year they'll just retool the whole thing again and release it as StarCraft: Ghost. Still, looks interesting.

Original trailer looked pretty interesting, though it's easy to see it as a futuristic MGS "clone." But then again I hate using the word "clone" to describe a game compared to another. The second trailer disapointed. First of all, for a trialer, it sucks. Second, the sci-fi theme seemed to work better in my opinion.
I'll still be keeping an eye out for this game.

The first trailer was a halo copy. The second trailer is a GOW copy. They simply take the most popular game of the time a they "change" it a bit..

Who's to say the game has changed at all besides the devs themselves? Perhaps the story of the game in some way accomdates both situations. Frankly, the thought of such a jarring juxtaposition really interests me in this game: the "how" of the weaving together of these two completely different settings is really intruiging, and since the developers haven't released any statements alongside the new trailer stating the "new direction" they've taken, there's really no way of knowing.
Either way, the utter discrepancy between the two trailers has actually got me interesting in this game.

Watched the trailer and honestly it didn't do too much for me.
Looks kinda boring. Didn't think the graphics looked too great either. Looked like "last-gen" graphics to me.

The 2nd trailer sucks so hard... That guy looks like Bruce Campbell in that House of the Dead game.

Looks ok to me, i dont really care for great gfx in games like this, just games where it really matters like GoW so it can scare the shit outa you.
good gfx are a bonus is any game though.
This game looks good, and i dont think the 2 trailers really mean the games changed.... it just mite have differant enviroments like in halo where you can b in space ships, or on earth..

I've seen both, and I must agree with Joe, the first trailer did interest me some, though the graphics look very Game-y (like Fake, I know it's youtube but still...)
The second trailer on the other hand looks more realistic, but still not very good, and the second trailer looks more boring too...
We'll see what comes from this

sound like they made this promising game a bit crappy....was looking forward to this sci fi game...

How does the first trailer rip on Halo? I didnt see a single Halo element besides the space theme. I definitely saw MGS though. And how does the second trailer rip on GOW? Did you see the same trailers I saw?
For everyone saying the graphics dont look like anything spectacular, the game was announced and shown like 3 years ago. It was THE FIRST announced next gen game. The second trailer looks fine. I will say though, it seems like the developers came up with the name "Dark Sector" first and thought it sounded cool, and then just built a story around it, which is why we've got 2 different stories using the term "Dark Sector". I'd think it'd be smarter to make the game first and name it later, but thats not me. Im not a developer so whatever. It could be cool, however I got a feeling it will be Perfect Dark Zero all over again. Over promised, underwhelming (sp)

The second trailer is rather.. disappointing. It's just so boring.
LOL @ "We know, we know ... space, Eastern Europe, what's the difference, right?"

Who says the new one is cold war based? I dont see anything that says eastern europe or cold war based at all. Just wondering cause I have been waiting for an awesome game built around the cold war, granted it would be a usa vs ussr all out war game but hey, i'll take anything.

Mike240se,
It's in the dashboard details. From Major Nelson:
"Dark Sector thrusts players into the role of Hayden Tenno, an operative sent into a dangerous assassination mission in Lasria – an Eastern European city on the brink of ruin that hides a deadly Cold War secret."

Game Informer magazine ran a cover story on Dark Sector for November and the developers stated that changes were made to move the game away from its original science-fiction theme. It looks like the new trailer reflects this, which is too bad since the earlier trailer looks a lot more interesting. The second one looks like a Prince of Persia clone set in the future.
