A legendary Xbox tattoo

Okay, so, we're fanboys. That's a given. We love the Xbox, the Xbox 360, and whatever other wünderbox Microsoft has in store for us next. Halo runs in our veins. We played hours and hours and hours of it back in the day. Yes, we love all things Xbox, but we're not sure we love them as much as this guy. Known only as GothicSlayer*, he has decided not to waste the valuable real estate on his back, opting instead to cover it with the Legendary crest found in the Halo series. As it stands it's only an outline, but he plans to get more of the detail filled in as he gets the money to do so (you can get tattoos in installments?). We've seen our share of gaming tattoos, but so far this one takes the cake, kills it, and then eats the cake's children. Let us know how it turns out, GothicSlayer.
Anybody else have any game tattoos they'd like to share with the rest of the class?

*So, does that mean he is a Gothic who slays people, or is he a slayer that chooses to kill Gothics?

Just an FYI, most large tatoos are done over time and not all at once.
Between the time needed for your skin to heal and the amount of money needed it just doesn't make sense to get a tatoo that large all at once.

David, you got that right... that outline and partial shading probably took over 3 hours to complete.
Knowing how painful tattoos are, i don't know any humans that could take that much punishment in one sitting, but i've seen people sit for over 8 hours for a tattoo.
With all the shading and color work he'll have to do, it might be done in two more sittings.
if anyone is interested, here's mine: http://www.ear-fung.us/tattoo/

I've got a Halo tattoo on my back. It's not as big, but I've had it since Summer '02.

Can we not have the tattoo images above the fold in the future?
Ick.

It's still a pretty cool design, Halo related or not. It is pretty fucking gigantic, but I don't think he would regret the actual design.

Would it have killed him to get into a shape before putting that on his back? The only way to show that off is to have his shirt off, and I don't even want to think about what those man boobs look like.
mnugghuhx @ Dec 18th 2006 3:40PM
hahaha man boobs, anyways sick tatoo, way too intense though.

Maybe it's just me, but when I saw this I thought it was a fake. I've got a few tatoo's, and granted, it's hard to tell from a picture but it doesnt look real. It's not even centered.

the zits on the neck and back are a great touch, it adds to the geek-factor of the entire idea. i thought it was bad when my friend got the godsmack logo around his navel but this takes the cake.

I hate to be the one to point it out but the "wing" (the part of the crest in the middle that "juts out") is much larger on the right side, than the left. Overall, it does look a bit off-center and in terms of perspective and symetry - not due to camera angle.
Did the guy blow it up and transfer/trace in marker first or did he sketch it freehand?
I'm sure with color and detail, it will look cool, but, for something so BIG, wish his artist had taken more care with the outline.
