NPD clarifies December sales info
The NPD group has made an official statement regarding yesterday's widespread news that the Xbox 360 narrowly outsold both the Wii and PS3 over the holidays. It appears that the sources that broke the story -- taken from a video segment on CNBC -- mistakenly attributed sales numbers to NPD. NPD's David Riley clarifies that CNBC only had numbers from November's NPD report. Any December sales numbers did not come from NPD. It is currently unknown from where the sales data in question was derived. We'll have definitive numbers when NPD releases them next week.

I still predict that the 360 will come out on top for the month. Any takers?

Microsoft committed to shipping (and selling) 10 million units to retailers by end of year, just to clarify in advance. Microsoft is a design and distribution firm that pays third parties to produce stock which they then purchase and distribute to retail vendors.
At least, for the moment they are (rumour is that they intend to self-fab the next Xbox).

Sony: "Guys, come on thats not fair! You can not compare Microsoft's current games to our current games! Microsoft will always be ahead of us! Wah!"
Microsoft: "It's not our fault you needed an extra year to see what Nintendo and us were going to come out with so that you could try and copy all of our ideas."
Sony: "How else do you think we can get our ideas? Without copying everyone else, we would be bankrupt and no one would be buying the PS3 with it's 'Superior Cell Processor'!"
..Someone slides Sony a piece of paper..
Sony: "What!?! How is this possible? You mean no one wants to buy our console? Store shelves are stocked with them and no one wants them? But what happened to our Cell Processor and ALL of the ideas we copied from Microsoft and Nintendo and all the lies we fabricated about how awesome the console will be? Wah!"

I expect final NPD numbers to still say that somehow the Xbox 360 has only shipped 3.4 million units in the US.
