CES aftermath: 360 gets IPTV, no HDMI [update 1]
The CES presentation of the Xbox 360 has just finished and we've received a better idea of where the 360 is headed. The rumored IPTV service coming to the 360 is true and will allow cable stations to offer IPTV content through the 360. This service will be up and running this year, holiday 2007. We'll also be seeing Windows Vista integrating the Xbox Live service allowing cross communication between a Vista PC and the 360. Friends lists, game invites, and friend status' all from your PC rolled out this summer. They also gave out a few numbers including 10.4 million Xbox 360s Update 1: We corrected the Xbox 360 sales numbers. They did indeed sell 10.4 million consoles, not ship.

Delicious. I knew all the speculation was crap. Hell, for all we know...those pictures were years old when they were still designing the console.

thank god... that took a lot off my chest about the hdmi port thing... that iptv thing was tight i know because i watched the keynote live

They didn't say a word about hw specs for that thing. The presentation was all about sw.
I'm not ruling out bigger hard drives or HDMI output or any other improvements on the hw based on that presentation.

"including 10.4 million Xbox 360s shipped so far"
I'm pretty sure its 10.4 360s actually sold, is it not?
360fanboy @ Jan 8th 2007 3:48PM
what's iptv and how does it work? i couldn't watch it live.

1. They didn't announce the revised XBox360 (bigger hard drive, better chips, quieter DVD drive, HDMI). I am rather disappointed, but I still expect it to come as the arrival date of IPTV services gets closer. I mean, there's no POINT in having HD video functionality with a hard drive smaller than 100 GB.
2. Still no web browser? Come on, guys, one of the most fun things to do with Wii and PS3 is watching silly Youtube videos on your TV. In fact, one of my friends MOSTLY uses his PS3 for watching Youtube full-screen because he exhausted the few games worth getting.
3. Wonder if XBL Windows will bring Gamerscores and Achievements to Vista? Wonder if XBL will be coming to WinXP? I bet it'll catch on great with casual games and smaller, indie games. Not so sure about the hardcore "Games for Windows" market.
4. Is the XBox360 Core system dead yet? No, seriously, can it please just die? At least let it have a SEVERE price drop ($250 or less).
5. Finally, can we get an officially supported method of backing up and/or transferring data from the XBox 360 hard drive to other sources? Other sources would include PCs and larger hard drives.
6. Yeah, I thought the IPTV stuff was cool too. Also like how they re-confirmed multiple Gears of War sequels.

Who didn't see this one coming? Sucks, I was excited about the HDMI and larger harddrive, but oh well. The IPTV is rather exciting :)

Aren't you guys forgetting that CES *just started*.
They (MS) have all week to announce more news.
Or they can wait till they officially announce the new smaller NM processor.
Hoffer @ Jan 7th 2007 11:57PM
I thought it was 2.7 million copies of Gears of War.
crunchb3rry @ Jan 7th 2007 11:42PM
With E3 down the tubes, I'm shocked they didn't use CES for the entire year's 360 announcements (like the factual new CPU die or rumored HDMI & 120GB HDD).
The Dude @ Jan 8th 2007 12:03AM
Sounds great, but if they roll out any more U.S. only features for Live there's going to be hell to pay from the subscribers elsewhere.
Clint (Neon360) Thompson @ Jan 8th 2007 10:06AM
Exactly, CES still has the rest of the week so they could save some more detailed and juicy info for the rest of the show.
Also, your right (above) it was 2.7 million he said, not 2.4 (typo?) million.
I'm sure the bigger HD and HDMI is still coming.... let's see what rolls out over the next 2 days. :)

for the LAST FREAKIN' TIME; SHIPPED = SOLD.
when MS ships to a store, they collect this thing called MONEY!!

I don't care about HDMI too much. My TV only has DVI but I'm happy with component. I can't tell the difference. I have my PC hooked up to my TV DVI port.
What I really want is a large hard drive. 120gb would be nice or larger. I still have 3.4gb free on my XBOX 360 but I know it will be maxed out when new levels and media come out.
