Castlevania: SOTN possibly coming this month
Rumor has it that the March 2007 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the release of XBLA title Castlevania: Symphony of the Night sometime this month. Yup, Castlevania: SOTN within' the next few weeks. Though it is entirely possible that EGM confirmed the release date with Konami weeks ago, but since then could have been delayed. We don't see why the game couldn't be ready for a February release (we already know what the achievements will be), but you know how that infamous Microsoft certification process works. Cross your fingers and wish upon a star, but no matter we're still slapping a rumor tag on this one. Come on fanboys, can we get a Castlevania in February for the win?[Thanks, Aaron W.]

Looking forward to this one. It will be a nice surprise if it can get in before the end of February.

Perhaps my single most wanted game for the 360, XBLA or otherwise..I love it! GIVE IT NOW....!!

I was so set on buying this...until it was announced as a bonus in Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP. Meh, I might still buy it on XBLA if it's cheap, just for the APs. Either way, Geometry Wars is about to get dethroned.

Mike, Dracula X Chronicles is only coming to PSP and apparently not well liked mechanics-wise, according to the recent IGN.COM podcast series posted just yesterday. There is no 360 whip movement and the walk is much slower than most american Castlevania releases.
(That, and it IS on PSP...so forget it :)..j/k.)
I can't wait for this game, the gamer pics and theme!
(I plan to buy Worms and Alien Hominid as well, but SOTN is my absolute #1 favorite game of all time and I want to see it in HD and score achievements!)

good news. I'd be happy if it was released this month.
however, I'm still not satisfied with Microsoft's release process. I'm not sure why it's so difficult for them to set release dates, and stick to them. I know there are delays and minor setbacks, but their success rate here sucks. Bad.

Is SOTN really that great? I've only played a little of Castlevania on NES... and that was like 17 years ago.
I haven't played another Castlevania game since. As someone who hasn't played SOTN and doesn't have nostalgia for it, will I enjoy the game as a 2007 gamer? My curiosity is piqued....

lets just say, if this was a new 2d sidescroller. it would be a gears of war killer.
Stynk Monkey @ Feb 11th 2007 12:53PM
It would be nice to see more 2d sidescrollers released for XBLA it'd be nice to see the original prince of persia for XBLA
Ninegauger @ Feb 11th 2007 1:31PM
I'm waiting for Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers and this I guess, though I might have had my fill of Castlevania by the time this actually is released (Portrait of Ruin and all) but I'll definitely get it.
Come to think of it I was also waiting for the release of the original Sonic the Hedgehog... wasn't that announced before E3 last year? That's one of my favorites... and it'd be better than Root Beer Tapper and other "classics" in that vein.
Kid Pyrrhic @ Feb 11th 2007 1:46PM
I don't think it was a staight port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. It'll probably be the updated version the GBA received last night.
Especially since they now call it Sonic the Hedgehog: High Speed.
But yes, its since disappeared from the radar. One of the "We promise to have 50 titles by the end of 2006."
I wouldn't be surprised if Symphony is bumped up in the release list to this week. The fan reaction to Rootbeer Tapper can't be helpful to the arcade's stance with gamers.

#8 - well said.
Man, I can't wait...SOTN coming to XBLA is what tipped the scales and motivated me to buy a console.

Where the fuck is worms :(
Intellectualdiot @ Feb 11th 2007 2:32PM
Yeah, the Castlevania featurette (primarily concerning the recently announced Rondo of Blood PSP remake) indeed confirms that SOTN will be arriving to XBLA in February - see page 24, "Live Arcade Symphony". Of course, the information itself could be out of date; the blurb furthermore suggests that Core uses will be unable to play the title due to its eschewal of the 50 MB limit while we know this to no longer be the case. Such is the folly of printed media.
Either way, this is the best information that we have regarding the release date at the moment. Do with it what you will.

Die Monster! You do not belong in this world!
Toph @ Feb 11th 2007 6:24PM
I just wonder what gamer pics might be offered..I'd like one of the cross-bat wings CastleVania symbol, the weapons of the Belmonts (Vampire Killer whip, holy water vial, cross and dagger pics) Alucard's portrait, Richter Belmont, a full moon with clouds..stuff like that.
This game would make a great Valentine's Day gist from MS to all of us and make up for the crappy releases for the past few months!
I'm excited for Worms and Alien Hominid too, but I've been waiting for Alucard for 7 months.
