Steve Ballmer teases about price drop
For those of you wondering if the Xbox 360 will have a price drop coming down the pipeline, our good friend Steve Ballmer has some words of wisdom. "I think every console in the world has had a price decrease sometime in the first few years. I don't know whether we'll have a price decrease in the first few years, and I don't want to comment on that, but I will highlight for you that every console has had a price decrease in the first few years." Perfect, that answers everything. So, basically if history has a tendency to repeat itself, we'll see a price drop. Understandably, Ballmer doesn't want to flat out say what the plans for the Xbox 360 are, as the Entertainment and Devices Division is determined to be profitable in 2008's fiscal year. Still as production costs decrease over time, Microsoft may find an opportunity to drop the price without breaking the bank, or the aforementioned goal. So, a price drop will happen, and it's just a matter of when. Our question for you is will it be before or Halo 3 ships?

you might see a price drop a bit before the halo 3 or a bit after to get people to buy it. i'm guessing they're gonna also bundle halo 3 with the 360 for maximum sales.
ON THE OTHER HAND, when i was buying my xbox live gold card from walmart (12 + 1 month) i also happened to ask how much ps3's were just to see the price. the lady told me the price had recently INCREASED to $725 canadian (probably like 724.97 or some stupid price like that) from the previous $699. i dont know if she has her info correct, because i could not find the price for the ps3 on the walmart canada site...and it doesnt make sense to price it that high when the competition (bestbuy and futureshop) both have their prices set at $699 and walmart has their price guarantee.

***UPDATE: i just called that walmart and had them check the price...turns out that lady had been dropped on her head as a child and the price of the ps3 is infact $697. sorry for any cofusion!***

What is the best guess about when the price drop will happen? I want to buy one, but if there's a price drop coming soon, I'll wait.

mrgroves...just wait till they bundle it with halo 3. ;) (altho that wont b for at least another 6 months or so...i dont know if you want to pass up that much gaming...i mean...there are about 10-15 games being released that are worth looking at.

I'm guessing that they are going to use a price drop to piss all over the PS3 European launch.
