Fanpoll: why did you buy Crackdown?

Update: This poll is now closed. See the results after the break.
With no new Arcade releases in sight, Crackdown is pretty much the biggest news this week. We've expressed our feelings about the game before. In short, we dig it. In fact, we've spent the last hour or so leaping from rooftop to rooftop in search of just one more agility orb. Oh, it is like the succulent sting of a needle and it dulls the pain. Obvious drug references aside, we'd like to know what you think of Crackdown. We know there are some who desired the game on its own merits, but there are certainly others who only care about the Halo 3 beta invite. We're also sure there are some who couldn't care less about either. So, cast your vote and tell us what you think. We'll share the results during the next Fancast.

Good game.
Halo is just an added bonus for me and did not influence my purchasing decision.
Tony @ Feb 20th 2007 12:05PM
I'm buying it today and honestly, when it got down to it, it was because I liked the demo and the idea of just getting the screw around in the full title... in some ways, it's kind of the Superhero action game I've been waiting for.
Halo 3 is nice, but considering I have Halo 2 and rarely play it online, it's not a major factor whatsoever. I admit I'm looking forward to it, though.
UNCCShannon @ Feb 20th 2007 12:13PM
I was going to buy it but then I got an email about a week ago saying I was in on the Halo 3 Beta so I have no need to buy it. But from the demo it seems to be a good game, but nothing that I would play.
RazorElite @ Feb 20th 2007 12:15PM
At first I pre-ordered it just for the beta. However, after playing the demo a bit, I'm definitely interested in the full game.
alex @ Feb 20th 2007 11:40PM
i planed on buying this game way before the beta announcement
lord hobo @ Feb 20th 2007 12:22PM
i was originally gonna buy it for the beta, because Europe got little way of getting into the beta, tried the demo and liked it. so im getting it for both
james frazer @ Feb 20th 2007 12:27PM
I was going to buy it anyway before I knew of the Halo 3 beta. If anything, it's my mates that really wanted the beta but couldn't afford the game, so they're buying the beer and snacks when it's released :D
Hammer @ Feb 20th 2007 12:51PM
It's a good game. I don't actually care about the free beta. The Halo series of games is horrendously overrated.
Jason @ Feb 20th 2007 12:59PM
Yeah right. You fanboys kill me. If you got this game for any other reason than the Halo 3 beta hopefully you were disappointed because this game is mediocre at best, and if you aren't disappointed then your blood is officially XBOX green.
King Keepo @ Feb 20th 2007 12:57PM
Had so much fun in the demo that buying it is a no-brainer for me.
Although I haven't played the story at all, the sandbox was so much better than GTA given that you have special abilities to tool around with and power up.
drew @ Feb 20th 2007 1:26PM
Hey Jason. Don't hate on the game or any of us just because you don't have the $$$ to buy it. Go play those cheap arcade games you loser. Take that kind of negativity and shove it.
Deano @ Feb 20th 2007 1:27PM
I know it's another overhyped Halo game but if you do buy it, buy it for the game. It seems a waste otherwise, given that we don't know when the beta will begin, what it will entail or how long it will last.
How about some patience kids? Halo 3 *is* being released this year.
Or do I hear lots of Cartman's chanting "Kehm onnnnnnn!!!"
Tony Bowman @ Feb 20th 2007 1:28PM
buying it for the game itself. if i didn't get the halo beta, whatever. i loved the demo. as it stands, i got my copy this morning at circuit city AND got my free halo faceplate. w00t. i'll definitely check out the beta for hal0 3 for shits and giggles.
sepllcehck @ Feb 20th 2007 1:31PM
I bought it because if I don't like it - the Halo 3 beta will make it extremely easy to sell and hell - I may be able to play it for a couple of months then sell it a full price or more when the beta comes out..
Ryan @ Feb 20th 2007 1:38PM
Well, I pre-ordered it before I knew I got into the second phase of the beta registrations, but it's also a really fun game.
csangos @ Feb 20th 2007 1:49PM
I bought it for the free faceplate. No not really, I'm most interested in the co-op play.
atsui @ Feb 20th 2007 2:35PM
Throwing cars is fun!
dstg_ll @ Feb 20th 2007 3:15PM
Just got back from FutureShop. Got the last copy that was laying around in the PS2 section heheh. I bought it for the game. The demo was mindless fun and i like that kind of game. I don't remember who said this, but he said that he will spend more time screwing around than advancing the story... i agree with that statement because this is exactly what i have in mind!
I don't care about Halo. I played the first one on PC and i thought it sucked. I got Halo 2, but i barely played with it.
SuicideNinja @ Feb 20th 2007 3:42PM
"It's a good game. I don't actually care about the free beta. The Halo series of games is horrendously overrated."
Compared to?
Gears of War and Resistance: Fall of Man are over-rated. A lot. Have 'em both, but still play Halo 2 regularly.
The only people who don't like Halo 2 either A. Never played it online or B. Don't like FPS games or C. Can't play with a controller
I was previously A, B, and C. I only had to play it on two separate occasions to become none of the above. It's be the most-played video game of all time for me in 20 years, even far surpassing my multiple runs of Final Fantasies, Mortal Kombat, and surprisingly, even Street Fighter II.
The only recent threat to that has been Wii Sports, but it's already getting old after a few weeks.
Anyway, I refuse to buy a game just for a beta of another game. I never liked sandbox games, so I'm doubting Crackdown is going to do anything for me. I'm ready for RPG action, myself...but I'm sure as hell not buying any more PS2 games.
h0mi @ Feb 20th 2007 3:33PM
The demo is not available now.
h0mi @ Feb 20th 2007 3:35PM
not demo, I meant beta for halo3.
Gaurav @ Feb 20th 2007 3:53PM
I didn't even play the demo and wanted to get the game, i heard someone say it was a cross between hulk and gta, i looked at some screens and the plot and all, it seemed like the game i was waiting for, not quite so superman returns but neither gta 4 either, the free halo faceplate(GO CIRCUIT CITY) and halo 3 beta were added bonuses, whats the point of the halo 3 beta anyways, it doesnt have very many of the same things as the final game, the game were going to be playing is way outdated to what they have so far, and right now there isnt many new things, ALSO I GOT FREE PANCAKES AT IHOP WOOT (yummy)
LiraNuna @ Feb 20th 2007 4:10PM
I agree with SuicideNinja. Some games are just over-rated, while others doesn't get thier spotlight at all.
I will buy Crackdown for it being a good and dynamic action game, not because the beta (that was) included.
Knight Marquise @ Feb 20th 2007 4:27PM
Well,
I just went and picked up my pre-ordered Halo 3 Beta Multiplayer Invite. Still am amazed that they threw a game in there to sweeten the pot. :)
You can guess my thoughts on crackdown....
Curse @ Feb 20th 2007 5:15PM
You guys don't have an entry for "I can get it for $25 at the Microsoft Employee Store" in your poll.
Espen @ Feb 20th 2007 6:09PM
I bought it for the game only, if I could've given away or sold the Halo3 beta I would've, Halo is the most overrated game I know :)
cheekybastard @ Feb 20th 2007 6:41PM
Was anyone else told at gamestop that they needed to preorder Halo 3 in order to buy Crackdown today? I just shrugged my shoulders, walked out and got it somewhere else, but seriously, who the hell do they think they are?
ZeroCorpse @ Feb 20th 2007 9:19PM
I think it's pretty pathetic that people would pay $60 to play in a limited-time beta of a plain old first-person shooter.
I bought Crackdown for Crackdown. It kicks ass, and sure as hell's a lot more fun than Halo 2 was!!!
If I want to play a multiplayer FPS, I'll grab Half-Life 2 so I can play Team Fortress. Now THERE'S a good FPS. Halo is dull and full of cheap, cheating players.
I'll play the beta, but only because it's free. I doubt it will impress me, though.
malcolm027 @ Feb 20th 2007 10:39PM
i love this game i have played it for 2 hours i just found a glitch check it out everyone i got stuck inside a part of the level hehehe

Adam - Hear me roar @ Feb 21st 2007 1:44AM
@15 (csangos) - Good luck finding anyone to play with you unless you got RL friends that have the game too. I've been searching for someone to play with for 10 minutes now on all 3 difficulties and no one will play with me!
Granted it is about midnight-thirty, but still it's a brand new game. C'mon anti-socialites accept a co-op match, or join mine hell.
Tom @ Feb 21st 2007 2:39AM
I was thinking about buying it, but after playing the demo for an hour it just became so friggin' monotonous. I just kept shooting and shooting and shooting (which is what you have to do to take down the bosses) until it started to get boring. It just seems like another lazy sandbox title combined with frenzied Unreal Tournament running and gunning. I'm sure that's appealing to some people, but not me. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Gears of War, but so what.
Premo @ Feb 21st 2007 10:04AM
I bought it for both, but moreso onto the side that just wanted Crackdown.
i love that game so much.
Played for 6 hours straight yesterday, and Ive only managed to max out strength.
