Crackdown 2 already in consideration?

CVG interviewed Stephen Iannetta, the senior designer at Real Time Worlds, and Iannetta had some interesting thoughts on the future of the Crackdown franchise. This is intriguing, as the game has only been available in North America for two days, aside from breaches in the street date. He's very open to the idea of a sequel, and would want to keep the game as non-linear as possible. The thing he feels makes the game as entertaining as it is is Pacific City and how the player is able to interact with it as their environment. As such, he wants to build upon it and have future iterations come with a "more believable, functioning city". CVG will evidently have the full interview available later today, and we'll report on any other interesting tidbits found therein. Still, what would you like to see added upon in Crackdown's future?

I ALREADY CANT WAIT!!! LOL
i wanna b able to tear down buildings with grenades and limpet charges. :D like massive office buildings over 40 storeys high. :D preferably empty ones tho...dont like killing people...or tearing down a gang building... :D that would be fun.
tim @ Feb 22nd 2007 2:58PM
Being able to go into more buildings.
boog @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:05PM
How about some vehicle damage? Also, I want to keep cars that I get in, similar to saints row. Super Agent Spinners. Would also like to create my own agent and outfit him how I like.
Lots of potential in this game, just lacking some things that saints row does very well.
Banjoker @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:05PM
Obviously, Crackdown 2 should come with a Halo 4 Beta invite.
Toph @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:19PM
I've thought about this for a few days now, and I'd want Crackdown 2 to have a number of upgrades In no order here's my input:
* More variety of weaponry: More hand-to hand weapons like swords.
* Breakable glass
* Customizable Agents. I LOVE how as you improve skills your Agent morphs into a different incarnation. I'd like to be able to customize the foundation armor in sections: arms, legs, shoes, chest, back and headwear. As you play more, you learn what each piece may grow into.
* As technology improves, realistic flowing fabric on Agents and around the City (flags, banners, whatever.) It'd be fun to equip an Agent with a cape or a trenchcoat, wouldn't it?
* Weather, such as thunderstorms that create slick spots and wet shine, and snowstorms that create feet of snow. This might be located at the north and southernmost locations of the city so as not to really hinder the rest of the city and be in the way. I can imagine jumping, then landing hard from hundreds of feet into deep snow, creating ripples and snowdrifts from the impact crater, or big splashes in the rain.
* It's been mentioned, but I'd like more variety in the bosses in the separate sections. I can imagine a boss that grows to twenty times his normal size and to defeat him, you have to leap and jump around before he destroys his very own island in real-time. That'd be impressive!
* The ability to destroy the enviroment realistically..such as overpasses, buildings, roads. It'd be only after you completely max out everything, but it'd be fun to become the final threat to the city after you eliminate everyone else.
I'd personally like to know if anyone likes these ideas, so let me know!
The Lamonster @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:27PM
MOTORCYCLES!!! actually I mean motorcycles that are jet-powered, can run up buildings, and have guns.
J.Goodwin @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:30PM
Female agents.
And more of everything!
Seroth @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:35PM
I want a grappling hook. Have it be like a bonus for maxing your agility. Or perhaps have the length of the cord increase as you increase your skills.
mike @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:42PM
I like the idea of fully desturctable environments. They coud have it as realistic aspossible. Like have us play a 4 player co-op game and have all 4 ofus bombard a building with rockets. You see holes and chuncks of building falling out. You could then take out the support pillars to bring the buildiung down realisticly (like blow off all left pillars, and buildings weight tumbles down in that direction.
*Destroy landscape as well, with weapons to dig, make tunnels, etc.
*own a house and collect objects froma round the city to populate it with.
* full weather effects, with snow that also builds up, and stays on the ground for some time and slos down movment, along with city plows and everything.
* multiplayer modes which you create. Like a mode editor. You and your friends can build an area per-say (using objects and parts of buildings) then seal off the area with a barrier, and use it for like a ctf match or something (game supporting 16 or more online players). They could have an object editor too to make your own sections of the city even.
* orb placer. Place hundreds of orbs on your own variation of the map. Like supppose I spent a month building an entire city + landscapes with the object and map edditors, then placed hundreds of orbs. I could now invite other players and have them play some srt of easter egg hunt.
Of course what Im asking would be a true sandbox game of unheard of proportions. It wuld be the greatest game of all time. Sadly, no1 will ever make a game like this..... too much effort I think.
Arcaynn @ Feb 22nd 2007 3:46PM
@5:"* The ability to destroy the enviroment realistically..such as overpasses, buildings, roads. It'd be only after you completely max out everything, but it'd be fun to become the final threat to the city after you eliminate everyone else."
I agree! After you finish, you go haywire-rogue agent, and start smashing up the city. I'd be cool to grow in size too, stomp on people, godzilla style.
Also, who do I pay to reserve Crackdown 2?
Iced_Eagle @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:07PM
More destructible city, some indoor environments? An entire city can't have all of their doors permanently closed. I would like to go actually indoors in a lot of buildings.
0ldb0y @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:18PM
Where is the patience? Halo 3 isn't even out, and people are thinking of Halo 4. Xbox 720? Talk of the Gears of War sequel (trilogy) came about before the game was even released. Are people even thoroughly enjoying the product they have in hand?
Haven't picked me up Crackdown yet (though I will soon, as I loved the demo), but it has me wondering why this game is doing so well in sales and reviews while Superman didn't do that Super. In many respects, both are very similar...Toph's comment about having a cape had me thinking about this.
Drew @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:20PM
@ 5:
"As technology improves, realistic flowing fabric on Agents and around the City (flags, banners, whatever.) It'd be fun to equip an Agent with a cape or a trenchcoat, wouldn't it?"
That is quite possibly the most awesomest thing I've ever heard. Ever. Holy crap.
ryansurfer @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:24PM
-Being able to shoot while driving
-cars that hover at multiple elevations
-jetpack maybe as a secret hidden object
and a lot of the ideas listed above are great:
weather interaction, motorcycles, hand-to-hand/melee weapons, destroying the environment were my favorites.
J.Goodwin @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:38PM
Because Superman was crap. If Crackdown was made by EA, it would have been crap too.
James @ Feb 22nd 2007 4:55PM
Fireworks displays over the water at night.
ezwaffles @ Feb 22nd 2007 5:37PM
A reverse button like in Full Auto - so when you miss a jump you don't have climb the same building again and again.
Oh yae, and a Halo 4 Beta Invite!!!
Deburner @ Feb 22nd 2007 6:05PM
1.More vehicle variety
-Motorcycles, ATVs, Aircraft, Boats
2.Deathmatch
3.More powers
-Morphing?,Super Speed,Bullet time?,Run on water
4.Monsters (we have genetically made agents why not monsters)
5.More locales
-Small towns and such as in gta:sa
6.Map editor
-Make small maps for deathmatch or like an objective based thing
7.Vehicle creator
-Like vehicles but it would be nice to make a custom one
8.Weather
-Rain,Snow,Lightning
9.Indoor Environments
-I wouldn't mind being able to do something like dead rising
10.More destructibles
-I wanna blow the crap outta some structures
iDeLine @ Feb 22nd 2007 7:53PM
Why would they make a sequel? To add yet ANOTHER horrible exclusive series to the Xbox? The first one flopped, so will the 2nd.
elementsunknown @ Feb 23rd 2007 12:34AM
iDeLine,
Isnt it a little hasty to label Crackdown a "flop" after only a few days on the market? Obviously many commentors here enjoyed the game enough to think of several great suggestons for the sequel, so they must not consider it a "flop". At least microsoft is trying to find and invest in new IPs, that is more than I can say for many other publishers.
Sparkstalker @ Feb 23rd 2007 6:55AM
Most of these have been said:
1. More destructible environments...not necessarily bringing down huge skyscrapers, but seeing collateral damage on the environment would be nice.
2. Interiors...not every building, but some.
3. Melee weapons.
4. Rouge agents or supervillans to hunt down.
5. More variety in missions - like hostage situations, car chases, kidnappings, etc.
6. And, of course, more multiplayer options. Maybe not a direct deathmatch (although it would be fun), but maybe an objective based game or two. Like first agent to wipe out X number of gang members, or a race to wipe out a well entrenched boss. Of course, you could always kill another agent to slow their progress :)
John456 @ Feb 23rd 2007 8:16AM
How about NOT putting in dodge Nitro advertisements on the billboards?
That really pissed me off. ESPECIALLY when a voiceover prompted me to look for "encoded data only agents can view" and it just happened to be a dodge advert. WTF?!
Games are escapism, stop trying to pull me back into reality.
jkdoug @ Feb 23rd 2007 8:27AM
I love most of the ideas already posted:
- Destroy gang buildings
- Weather effects
- More multiplayer options
- Offline co-op (split screen? party mode?)
- Customizable agent
- More cool weapons and items: swords, jetpack, infravision
They really need to fix that narrator, too. H repeats himself. He overstates the obvious. He tells you the wrong things at the wrong times. He's just downright annoying most of the time.
Rob Holiday @ Feb 23rd 2007 8:35AM
Simple:
* The ability to punch and not just kick.
* The ability to punch and kick while jumping.
I hate to wait until my agent hits the ground before I can melee someone.
JohnHeist @ Feb 23rd 2007 11:20AM
Super Powered bosses.
Oh and I want my Agent to be able to shoot fire out of his hands.
Seriously.
Matthew Mac @ Feb 23rd 2007 10:24PM
Some customization and destructible environments. Lamonster, just so you know, Dave Jones said he's thinking about an Agency motorcycle for some DLC.
David @ Feb 23rd 2007 11:45PM
flop, what are you smokin iDeLine?
While certainly not perfect, many are finding this game to be a lot of fun and something different than yet another EA or UbiSoft sequel that gets pumped out with regularity.
Lots of work went into Crackdown and now that the really hard stuff is out of the way we can look forward to a sequel where all of the dev time is spent fleshing the idea out.
Steve @ Feb 24th 2007 9:18AM
i'd say more weapons. my friend said last night when we were driving around that he wished he could shoot from the car. oh.. and boats. that would be some good stuff.. i was thinking planes.. but i mean since you can jump, who cares as much.
The bringer of truth @ Feb 24th 2007 3:45PM
As much as I'd love a fully destructible environment... not going to happen... my pc can barely do one two story house with an attic. That's unfurnished...
Fun to destroy yes... but it won't happen.
The plain fact is, consoles as they exist in this age can't handle the stress, of tracking over 1 million objects...
How many chunks do you think would go into one sky scraper?
Lets say that there is a fully destructible sky scraper... it's there, you've got about 3 fps while the cameras trained on it, you do so much as shoot it, and you won't see anything until the chaos stops, assuming your xbox CAN track everything...
I'd like to see helicopters and airplanes... maybe a parachute for those agency tower climbs...
Also I want to see the agency finished, we know in the game world that it's under construction, but if you explore it you find that the game designers never finished the agency.
Also, I want to see boats.
Nick @ Feb 27th 2007 10:41AM
Gimmie boats and motorcycles. Maybe a grappling hook or a portable zip line or a glider wing like in shadowrun. Also some stealth elements would be awesome.
oh and a flamethrower, definately a flamethrower.
Reece @ Mar 5th 2007 5:47AM
31.what i would like
1.I would like to be able to have a sword
2.I would like to be able to customise agents & vehicles
3.I would like tobe able to slow down time
4.I would like to be able to run up buildings
5.I would like to be able to blow up buildings with granades & rockets
6.I would like to be able to cast spells like fire balls & rain from the sky to pick up ground & throw it at people and make tornadows that pick up all types of objects & humans & throw them
7.I would like to be able to make lighting hit the ground in spell casting
8.I would like to be able to have a two player co op with out going on line or system link
9.I would like to be able to upgrade all weapons
rob paek @ Mar 6th 2007 5:14PM
Isn't Halo 3 supposed to be how the world ends? So would it be possible to have a Halo 4?
