Old school TMNT coming to the XBLA?
The turtles rumor mill is churning full force today as 360Style.net posted a few leaked TMNT screenshots. But these screenshots are special, because 360Style.net claims that they come from an unannounced XBLA version of 1989 TMNT. Old school TMNT on the XBLA ... that's sweetness! We've examined the screens, looked them over twice, and still come away perplexed. It looks like these screenshots are trying a little too hard, including Konami and Ubisoft logos on the main screen and using a new-age turtles background for the gameplay. Though, we'd like to be proven wrong and wish our 2D side scrolling turtles adventure would show up on the arcade (instead we get 3D turtles). What do you think, photoshopped prank or turtles arcade magic?[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

I PRAY this is true. The only game I've wanted more than this was the Simpsons Arcade game.

To #2: That youtube link is to a review of TMNT for the NES. That is NOT the arcade game. The TMNT arcade game is awesome and would be VERY, VERY welcome on my 360. Now if they could just bring the old X-men 6 player arcade game... And hell, Captain America and the Avengers, while we're at it.

As a long time Photo Shop user and XBLA fan it really looks like a scam to me. I cant exactly put my finger on why, but it dosent look real. The first thing that seemed off to me where the items in the menu list. It just seems wrongish... I'm with the rest of you I would love a 2d TMNT on XBLA but I'm not gonna get my hopes up yet.

I find it odd that the UBISOFT logo is on there. Were they even around when this game came out in arcades? That Simpson's movie comes out this summer. It would be a smart business move to release the arcade game around that time *hint hint.

The Turtle's arcade game was the very first co-op game I ever played and I f'n loved it.
God I hope this is real. And it still has 4-player co-op!

I get it for sure!

Why would the developers be playing around with a demo version? (The 'unlock full game' item is prsent on the menu). Just seemed a little strage...

i saw a tag that stated tmnt had been rated by the esrb.........bring it on!!!!!!!
LaughingMan @ Feb 25th 2007 2:12PM
Since when did XBLA games' menus have such pretty backgrounds? They all look just sort of blah!- this one looks TOO good.
Fake.
porkchop @ Feb 25th 2007 2:10PM
It's real, I saw this on PartnerNet (the dev XBL) just a couple of days ago. It's looking pretty sweet.
porkchop @ Feb 25th 2007 2:19PM
Not that you can make it out in the 'leaked' pics, but all the backgrounds are renders from the upcoming Turtles Movie.

"i saw a tag that stated tmnt had been rated by the esrb.........bring it on!!!!!!!"
The only rating up there currently is for the multiplatform, 3D title. There's nothing about this version.

hope the quality will be higher than Contra..
I was sooo desapointed.

Ubisoft has the Turtles license at the moment. Any release of TMNT on XBLA would have to be copublished with Ubisoft.
Just as any release of, for instance, Goldeneye, would require copublishing with Activision.
Foppe @ Feb 25th 2007 5:20PM
Do Ubisoft own the rights to ALL TMNT games, or only for the new movie?
If Konami still owns the rights to the cartoon TMNT, they could release it without Ubisoft´s permission.
J.Goodwin @ Feb 25th 2007 6:27PM
Foppe. What's the difference. The first screenshot has both Ubi and Konami logos on it.
If they're real, then thats a legitimate thing, if they're fake, they're fake. Given that the stuff that's real just comes out whenever it feels like it, real or fake won't make this any more or less likely to show at any point in the immediate future.

At #1 and #2..
You both couldn't be more right on. My favorite arcade games as a kid were TMNT, Simpsons, and X-Men. Ofcourse I got to play TMNT at home when it was released as TMNT II for the NES. None of the X-Men or Simpsons console games come closed to their arcade counterparts.
HombreFeo @ Feb 26th 2007 4:24AM
if this is a prank.. there are some really cold motherf**ker out there...
d-dove @ Feb 26th 2007 12:15PM
Its real you jobronis, QA has to test both the locked demo versions, and full versions.
And it def is not Photoshoped, to the so-called long time user (most menus are done in Photoshop). Gamers sure are a cynical bunch....
d-dove @ Feb 26th 2007 12:16PM
Also, other QAs are able to see content on PartnerNet and taking screenshots is as easy as hitting enter on the Debug units.
Tony @ Feb 26th 2007 1:03PM
Ridiculously, a company in this field would likely be using Photoshop to make the menus to begin with, so I'm not sure how much could be pointed out there to begin with.
By the way, there's video now.
