Video: BioShock; Big Daddy; Big Game
GameTrailers has a very interesting BioShock video of going on the prowl for the game's Big Daddies. Melissa Miller, 2K Games' Content Producer brings us the walkthrough and gives us the rundown of what we'll be seeing. It showcases security hacking, and the teleportation, enrage, telekinesis plasmids. While there is a "Work In Progress" watermark at the bottom, it still looks very nice and sets the atmosphere with the ambient music and constant sound of water flow. Rather than spoil it for you, we'll let you see for yourself. So, can you take on a Big Daddy?

I never realized the graphics were that good on this game. I just might have to pick this up now... oh 2007 is going to be hard on bank.

Well since this is one of my most-anticipated games of this year, any video that comes out is good in my book. I wanna play now.

Wow I actually scooped the fanboys. I had this up on my blog 2 days ago. Great video though.

If I die before I get to play this game, it will be alright. Because I will be in heaven, playing the special heaven edition with Jesus, Tiny Tim and Captain Kirk, in four player online co-op. My nipples are so hard right now.

That's a very disturbing and creepy game. The scene where the little kid plunges a hypodermic needle into a dead body and then drinks what she pulls out of the body via the needle? Ewww!!!
Chris @ Mar 5th 2007 10:46PM
Its supposed to make you have a hard decision deciding whether or not you can kill the kid. Personally, I'd off that kid no problem.

The end was wild. Using the telekinesis to grab and divert the explosives, etc.
What was really impressive was the reaction of the child. I want to know how much scripting was there and how much was dynamic.
For example, the girl shrieks and starts crawling away, then turns back around and scoots herself into the corner, pushing some movable piece of debris.
Maybe I don't get to play enough games these days due to MGC, but I found that to be the most impressive part. Reaction scripting has been around since before Half-Life, but something about that was jaw-dropping to me.

i agree morgon, i found that to be the most impressive part of the demo. i know reaction scripting will make objects move out of the way but it looked like she reacted to the debris as well, it looked almost entirely scripted but then i thought about it and she was there entirely randomly and the same thing can probably happen damn near anywhere. if its anything like what i think it is then they are using something similar to the endorphin engine that can interact between animated actions and realworld physics.

after seeing that video...i am still not convinced to even give this a "rental" label.

The art direction and atmosphere were very immersive. It felt like a bad dream come to life.
The child was interesting to watch. How much was scripted and how was was just dynamic AI behaviour? The actual gameplay look alright but I could be sold on this title based purely on atmosphere and eye candy.
boog @ Mar 6th 2007 8:20AM
visuals look good, but this game looks twisted, and not much fun.
Pete @ Mar 6th 2007 12:42PM
Are you serious??? How could someone see the previews for this game and not want to play it? I'm interested to know actually... do you not like first person shooters? Or was it the amazingly gorgeous graphics that make you not want to play?
ruiner @ Mar 6th 2007 11:51AM
yeah I liked the touch of having her hopscotch her way to the dead guy, awesome details! I can't wait to see this in full HD glory at home.
0ldb0y @ Mar 6th 2007 2:07PM
It looked as if the shotty was pretty useless, which means one will have to come up with inventive ideas, especially using plasmids and working with/against the AI, to complete certain tasks. Very interesting, and certainly refreshing from a gameplay standpoint when from a simple glance it appears to be just another FPS.
And yes, the little girl's reaction was ridiculous. That rage plasmid made me want to wash my hands. That's the OCD speaking!

Am I the only one who see a lot of similarities with another famous game?
A "weapon" to grab things and throw them, a weapon to make some enemies attack other enemies, does anybody says Halflife 2?
gameProf @ May 25th 2007 12:16AM
a number of my game programming students were involved in testing this (Firaxis did the testing), all they could say was: awesome. i usually don't go in for dark and gory, but i'm buying this one.
