Gyruss coming to XBLA next week?
While we knew of Gyruss' existence in the Xbox Live Arcade line-up, and that it would arrive sometime in the future. We didn't know when "soon" meant back in October, but according to Konami's XBLA page, it comes out just shy of half a year. Just underneath Castlevania: SOTN, Gyruss can be found to have a March 2007 release. That pretty much narrows it down to March 28th. We can't tell if Konami knows something we don't, or if it still is in Microsoft's hands with certification, but we hope to hear more on this soon. The game's details also reveal the online co-op and versus modes that will be available when the title does actually release. Whether that's next week or not, we'll just have to wait and see. You down for some co-op shoot 'em up, or would you rather have something else for the final Wednesday of March?

Oh please let this be false. I was hoping for Settlers of Catan, not a retro.
Tony @ Mar 20th 2007 11:45AM
I'm not terribly interested. I like Gyruss, but eh. I don't care if it's new or retro, personally (hell, if you're constantly hoping for new games you're going to be disappointed all the time anyway no matter what), but I think I'm done with shooters of this type for a while.

I love Gyruss. And the concept of co-op Gyruss with enhanced graphics (with HD explosions and particle effects)...

This is one of the best news I've heard about XBL. I love Gyruss ever since I was a kid running to the arcade to play it to death. I will download this as soon as it's released.
DukeFett @ Mar 20th 2007 12:26PM
I'm excited, Time Pilot and Gyruss are 2 of my favorite shooters and I'm really happy they're both on the 360, and now I'm on a real roll with buying these XBLA games since I'll be getting SotN tomorrow as well.
ChromaTick @ Mar 20th 2007 12:34PM
This is horrible news. I have no interest in these retro games. I was really hoping Settlers of Catan would be the next game released.
edhe @ Mar 20th 2007 12:35PM
Again.......
If they're going to release retro stuff can't they release some new stuff the same week? We're not all wierdos with retro fetishism.
Blue_Falcon @ Mar 20th 2007 12:42PM
Y'know, I'm not an advocate for XBLA getting ports of old arcade games [aka everything Namco, Midway and Konami have released thus far]...but frankly, with tommorow being SOTN, I think I'll be too busy to care enough.
In fact, I'd rather it be some ancient arcade game so I can focus my time on SOTN.

This is going to be tight. I freaking love Gyruss. I can't wait to hear that music pumping out of my 5.1. I think the analog stick will actually work great for Gyruss.
I love retro releases but I see how people can be bored with them. MS should have a retro and non-retro release day.
Ithilis @ Mar 20th 2007 1:01PM
Meh. With SOTN coming this week, as an above poster mentioned, I don't really care. If we didn't already have a stellar month for the service; however, I'd be unimpressed.
engadget @ Mar 20th 2007 1:29PM
Settlers of Catan! Or Carcassone! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
Jonah Falcon @ Mar 20th 2007 1:48PM
Once more - it's at least featuring enhanced graphics (like Time Pilot did), so it's not just the same old arcade port. And I don't ever recall ever being able to play Gyruss co-op or versus. (That is - two ships on the same board playing at the same time.)
mnemo @ Mar 20th 2007 1:58PM
YES! YES! YES! FINALLY! I've waited through all the crap of the previous weeks for this and I'm NOT kidding! I already input the 2100 MS Points code a few ago for THIS purchase. No sire, no TMNT, no Lumines, no Worms, no Hominids. Gyruss is where the action is! Time Pilot and now Gyruss. Okay, I need to change my underwear now.
[Although this comment can be interpreted satirically on reading it, I assure you that I am (mostly) sane and meaning every word. I love those two shmups!]
DeadPlasmaCell @ Mar 20th 2007 3:00PM
Damn I was hoping for Double Dragon
LaughingMan @ Mar 20th 2007 10:12PM
UUuugh. Here with TMNT and Double Dragon looming on the horizon, I thought we were over the "dawn of arcade" era and onto bigger things. I guess not. Still though, we've had quite a run in the last 4 weeks and I'm still a big big fan of XBLA. So for those who love Gyruss, enjoy. I'll be saving my money for "Moon Patrol" (sarcasm) ;)
mnemo @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:19AM
Yay, Moon Patrol! I totally forgot about it. When Time Pilot, Gyruss and Moon Patrol are out on XBLA I don't need any other new releases. :-) Tried Castlevania yesterday: Yawn!
