Final Fantasy XIII heading to Xbox 360?
The PS3 exclusivity rumor train is unstoppable these days. Just days ago it was revealed that both Devil May Cry 4 and Ace Combat 6 were going multiplatform, and now we hear, courtesy of GameSpot, that the one of the biggest exclusives of all may be spreading the console love as well. Yes, it appears that Final Fantasy XIII -- you know, "that RPG" -- could be jumping the fence in search of greener pastures. In an interview with Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace, Georges Fornay, president of Sony Computer Entertainment France, hinted at the possibility. Fornay noted that development costs for games have skyrocketed, making it difficult for 3rd party developers to produce exclusive titles. Said Fornay, "As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion." Square-Enix has yet to comment on Fornay's statement.Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, recently added fuel to this rumor, stating that the FFXIII's White Engine is capable of multiplatform development, and that he believed making FFXIII a multiplatform game would be a "wise" decision. Is the Xbox 360 about to pick up another of the PS3's heavy hitters? Only time will tell. If Final Fantasy XIII were to come out on Xbox, would it sway your decision to get a PS3?

Us much as I love my 360, Final Fantasy belongs on a Playstation ... at least for me, so I'm still first in line tomorrow morning when Sony lunches here in Europe.
AL7AIR @ Mar 22nd 2007 11:52AM
*launches ... but food is a good idea after a 8h Gears session XD

"Us much as I love my 360, Final Fantasy belongs on a Playstation ... at least for me, so I'm still first in line tomorrow morning when Sony lunches here in Europe."
Many years ago I could have said that about Nintendo. I stopped pidgeonholing any 3rd party games to specific systems since then lol. A lot of people seem to forget that the first 6 games (and a spin-off) were Nintendo only at one point. As far as genuine sequels in the series goes, that's just as many as Sony got.
This would be nice. I'd be willing to give the game a try, despite the difference in team members since XII (which I liked a lot, FF has changed so much since FFIV that I'm not a big fan anymore).
The graphics engine it uses, the White Engine, is supposedly multiplatform in nature anyway. It shouldn't be a bitch to accomplish.

I've been swaying in my fanboyism lately. I like the PS3. It definitely has a very techno-savvy high end feel to it. It just has some major things holding it back (price, controller, no vibration, games currently available). But I think the Home idea is pretty interesting and the trailer for Little Big Planet were unreal.
I will probably, eventually pick a PS3 up. Especially once the price comes down and it is about 2-3 years old. There are going to be great games for it eventually, but not now. I can wait longer for the price drop if I'm playing games like Final Fantasy XIII on my 360.
adam @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:02PM
This would be sweet.
I kinda figured eventually it would happen, because FF11 was on the 360 and PC. Plus its just smarter for a company to release on multiple consoles.
@1
Final Fantasy games have not been on just playstations. It started with nintendo.
matt mcclard @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:48PM
dear lord please.
Daryl @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:10PM
I won't ever buy a PS3. I'm a one console kind of guy.
Tim @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:22PM
I generally have one major console. I sold my PS2 to get an Xbox in the same way that I sold my N64 towards my purchase of the PS2.
This is actually the first generation where I have enough money to buy whatever I want, and now that it's here, the 360 seems like more than enough. Why buy a PS3 when I have so much fun playing online with my 360 owning friends? There'd be no time for the PS3. Until it catches up as far as online gaming (long way off) there's just no place for it.
Josh @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:29PM
Microsoft is trying their hardest to make us all broke. With all these great games coming out a 2nd job may be needed. If the FF series comes to the 360 then the only other franchise I'd like to have is Tekken. I'd love to have God of War too but that is produced by Sony so I doubt that'll come our way.
AL7AIR @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:37PM
@ Tony and adam
I'm well aware of the fact that the Final Fantasy series was on another system before it was released on a Playstation. But before the Gamecube I never owned a Nintendo system myself and only played on them for hours on en over at a friends house. So for me FF is a "Playstation series" ... hence the "at least for me" part in my comment.
3cubedminus3squared @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:49PM
FFX was the reason I went PS last gen. I jumped the boat early this time and went with the 360 with the intent on getting a PS3 later just for this game. Now I might not have to. :)
Toph @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:57PM
Sony had better have some amazing NEW franchises of games coming out sooner than later for them..because the Reaper is definetely walking up the PS3 sidewalk right now.
erivera3 @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:11PM
Developers are finally all coming around and realizing how much more potential there is with the 360. The 360 is a all around better console with much more possibilities, and even ps3 exclusives are realizing that. Truly a great time to be a 360 owner as our big name games haven't even come out yet!
Steinmania @ Mar 22nd 2007 7:59PM
Square Enix and Capcom's Monster Hunter is the only reason why I would want a ps3 in the future. Just thinking about beating Heartless over the head with a keyblade on my 360 gives me warm fuzzy feelings. I would buy Finalfantasy XIII on the xbox 360 for sure!
Jon C. @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:18PM
It's not a matter of "if" but "when".
Squeenix has got to be crazy not to take advantage of the potential cash flow from two consoles (rather than settling for the PS3's small, but growing install base).
Aram @ Mar 22nd 2007 1:40PM
Fortunately I do have both Xbox 360 and PS3... if FFXIII comes out on both I'll choose Xbox version just for the achievements!!!!!
Ninegauger @ Mar 22nd 2007 2:02PM
Square Enix won't sell me FFXIII if it's on the PS3 but on the 360 it becomes much a much more likely sale.
But Devil May Cry 4 was the one I was really hoping for, so I'm good.
Ace @ Mar 22nd 2007 5:27PM
PS2 won last generation with exclusives; FFXIII and MGS4 are the only hope that PS3 has of repeating that sort of success (most of the other new features are tacked on and done better by competitors).
If they lose FFXIII--and the potential of MGS4 being a mere timed exclusive, if at all--it would kill them.
360OwnsAll @ Mar 22nd 2007 2:31PM
I am a 360 owner, and I really don;t understand this comment, "The 360 is a all around better console with much more possibilities, and even ps3 exclusives are realizing that." How does the 360 have more possibilities than the PS3? Have you read any reviews on Oblivion for PS# yet? The PS3 owns that game, whereas the 360 had a lot of troible even keeping up with it. I have played it both on my 360 and PC and then watched my friend play it on his PS3 the other day and it really is incredible. Also, the PS3 has only been out for a few months, give it time.
Gemini Ace @ Mar 22nd 2007 5:07PM
Here's hoping Gran Turismo is next to go multi-platform. Not that I want to play it, but because it would hurt Sony.
konajinx @ Mar 22nd 2007 3:10PM
Nothing could ever sway me to buy a PS3, unless it was 50 bucks and didn't suck. Thank you.
Bob Santos @ Apr 7th 2007 1:36PM
I got a 360 (and Wii that I never use) and haven't been able to bring myself to buy the PS3 due to the price (even tho... all in all it's not a bad value when comparing raw hardware i.e. HDD space, wifi built-in, and Blu-Ray). I was considering buying a PS3 when FFXIII came out... but... if it comes out on the 360... I may wait til the PS3 drops down to 200-300 before getting it. Unless something else crazy comes out for it... which will prolly end up on the 360 as well. /sigh I will miss the good times with the PS brand.
KA @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:02PM
@ 360OwnsAll
That's because the developers for Oblivion had almost an extra year development time on the PS3, than the 360. Of course it'll look better.
Bones @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:53PM
#17... what about the fact that oblivion was stripped down for the ps3, because it did not have enough memory to handle it! I remenber that horse armor was one of the things that had to go...
dslite_user @ Mar 22nd 2007 5:59PM
ff13 hell yes!!! if this is on 360 and dmc is already no ps3 for me!!!!!! :) and i'm still waiting for metal gear 4 on the 360 rumors.....
James @ Mar 22nd 2007 10:12PM
@ Mr.KA
the ps3 is Way more powerfull game already look better on it than the 360 version and they have only scratched the surface of its power
Killer @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:46PM
KA is right, more time=better game.
360Ownsall is correct as well, some people need to be patient with the PS3. Each console has it's strong point(s).
H880 @ Mar 22nd 2007 4:51PM
No, it wouldn't sway my decision to get a PS3. At $600, I'm not planning on getting a PS3. It's just too expensive.
If the PS3 were $399, I'd be far more inclined to purchase one.
Software alone will not get me to purchase a PS3.
So if this appears on the 360, all the better, at least I'll have an opportunity of buying it.
noveltyhat @ Mar 22nd 2007 5:06PM
hoorayx100. not having mgs and ff was my biggest 360 regret. this would make the decision a practical no-brainer.
Jason @ Mar 23rd 2007 3:50AM
wow...
i think i just got wood...
BowserUSC @ Mar 22nd 2007 11:01PM
virtua fighter, mgs4, tekken, warhawk, just to name a few. I've got a 360 and don't plan to get a ps3 anytime soon but there are still a ton of games for the ps3 that I'd love to be able to play but are exclusive.
I'll probably pick up a ps3 eventually, but hopefully this is the end for sony hardware and I wont have to pick anything up from sony ever again.
LessPerfect411 @ Mar 23rd 2007 12:10AM
I feel bad for Sony>It's really hard to f**k with Microsoft's unlimited bank account! But, at least more gamers will be able to play these (not so) exclusive titles.
Dave @ Mar 23rd 2007 11:23AM
I think companies are noticing that there are like 10 Million more 360's in people's houses as opposed to the 5 Million PS3's that are sitting are store shelves. Maybe that is why Sony is losing a lot of their exclusive rights.
Game Warrior @ Mar 23rd 2007 8:43PM
Ace Combat 6 is NOT multi-platform like Devil May Cry 4 is.
Ace Combat 6 was only announced for the Xbox 360.
When articles say that "Ace Combat is no longer exclusive to Sony" they are referring to the fact that Ace Combat games were only released on Playstation systems in the past.
Now, the Xbox 360 is the system where Ace Combat is going to be played on.
Phil @ Mar 24th 2007 8:39PM
browswer USC,
Virtua Fighter 5 is coming to the 360, just a little later. It will be available on the 360 in August.....go check Amazon.com or some such.
I don't like FF games, so I don't care, but MGS4 would be SUPER SWEET!
Markus87 @ Mar 25th 2007 7:05PM
Like a few others that have posted here, I'll admit that I too, will probably end op getting a PS3. If not for the blu ray capabilities, at least the nostalgic factor with the PS1+2 libraries at hand. I see the PS3 as more of an HTPC than anything else these days, more so with the internet browser. Mind you I'll most likely not be doing this any time soon... more likely after I get a tv that'll do 1080p (but... come to think of it, by then we'll probably be at 1600p :P)
I think Sony's put to many eggs in one bag here. They're more focused on pushing blu ray it seems than they are with gaming goodness. Just take a look at EGM's interview with the playstation head. He gave more curveball answers to the magazine's questions than a politician on the campaing trail!
Anywho... I don't really care much with exclusive games crossing over to the rival console.. It'll drive competition and the market for a while, especially now as the industry begins to stagnate with over-used ideas and concepts, exactly mimicking its Hollywood counterpart.
unknown @ Apr 12th 2007 7:41AM
xbox 36o dosent deserve ff and if thay get it it will probly mean the end of ps but any ways i dont perticularly like xbox my self so bi
Joey @ Apr 18th 2007 9:17PM
Every system has its major title. If Nintendo didn't have Zelda or Mario it would be dead long ago. If Xbox didn't have Halo they be dead-seriously. If Playstation loses Final Fantasy exclusive and Metal Solid Gear than Playstation is dead-no more. I hate to say that but if playstation has no title of its own no one will buy it. Seriously why would you buy ps3 if every game you want is on cheaper system with same graphics? Sony can't afford to lose Final Fantasy or Metal Solid Gear they got nothing else to sell their system. They don't have better online system than Xbox 360 or superior graphics. Its the exclusive rights to Final Fantasy and MSG that is keeping it alive. So it isn't no minor lose. So don't think so likely if they lost those titles. The war will be over if they lose those 2 game series. They only titles Sonly has. Sorry Resistance Fall of Man sucked. Sony needs to keep these titles.
Xbox fans got to admit if they didn't have Halo Xbox be dead.
lolz @ Apr 18th 2007 10:54PM
@ 38
you can add gears to
major 360 exclusives: halo,gears of war,dead rising.
major ps3 exclusives: metal gear solid, final fantasy.
major wii exclusives: mario, legend of zelda.
And only the ps brand seems to be losing them it will suck for all ps fanboys to find out that either mgs or ff is multiplatform, if one of them goes to 360 it will be over 1 game cannot save a system.
Joey @ Apr 24th 2007 6:19PM
Square left Nintendo because they were stupid hard headed and wanted to stay old school. Square didn't jump to Sony because of just money reasons but because Nintendo didn't have ability to handle Final Fantasy VII. One reason Nintendo systems will never get any new main Final Fantasy games: can't handle graphics.
As far as 360 getting FFXIII, I don't see it happening. FFXI is online game and different from regular RPGS. So you can't go by that game. I do see Square Making some type of Final Fantasy games for Xbox 360. The new MMO from Square will be on both Xbox 360 and PS3. FFXIII won't be on Xbox thought.
Token @ May 15th 2007 1:04AM
If FFXIII goes to the 360, PS3 is going to have a hard time catching up.
But I don't think it will. I want a PS3 and a 360, both have really good games and are really good systems.
Why everyone has to pledge allegiance to only one system blows my mind. PS2 had some good games, Xbox had some good games.
KotOR I & II were the best games to ever be released on the X-Box, Halo was alright, but nowhere near enough to make me want an X-Box.
Metal Gear Solid is the BEST GAME EVER! That's pretty much all I have to say. But that's my opinion. Some people actually like Halo or GTA.
Anyways, there's no point in bashing either system, you aren't convincing anyone that isn't already convinced.
