Xbox 360 120GB HDD advertising appears
It looks like promotional materials for the new "rumored" Xbox 360 120GB hard drive are surfacing. We received this picture from fanboy reader Ralph, who says it's a shot of Gamestop's promotional poster for the much rumored 120GB hard drive. Yes, we know it's a tiny picture, but Ralph says it's so small because it was sent to him via his trendy little Blackberry. Stupid Blackberrys and their small screens. So, is this confirmation of a new 120GB hard drive and possibly the Elite 360? Not exactly, but it makes for great speculation goodness. And we all know how much we love our rumors and spec.[Thanks, Ralph]

I really find the 120 GB HD pointless unless you are an avid user of the xbox live marketplace for movies and tv shows.
raymond @ Mar 26th 2007 1:14AM
ditto. or unless you rip alot of music and stuff.
chops @ Mar 26th 2007 1:30AM
same here, ive never been able to even full the 20gb i have. but maybe ms have more things coming out in the future that may utilize its space.
Ed @ Mar 26th 2007 1:43AM
"Hardrive"?
Really? Cmon.
At least he didn't spell "Coming" wrong when he was making this really sad fake.
Brandon @ Mar 26th 2007 1:48AM
I would love a larger 120GB HD. This would give me plenty on room to fill up as much music as I want while buying more and more games from the marketplace and keep more demos for a little extra gaming every now and then.
This will be great now especially since the 50MB limit for the arcade has been done away with as we will now see larger Arcade games that can fill up a hard drive fairly quickly. I cannot wait for this.
mongoro @ Mar 26th 2007 1:50AM
I wonder if this larger drive could be used as an optional disk image holder for large games. So perhaps for blue dragon, or anything else that spills over 1 disk, maybe you could copy disk 2 through n onto the drive and require disk 1 to play, and core players simply need to swap... everyone can play but permium/elite owners can be slightly lazier.

to ed:
go into a gamestop and check the endcaps of the gondolas, you'll find this poster is no fake.
i took this picture and sent it to ralph earlier today while i was working.
Toph @ Mar 26th 2007 2:20AM
My only worry is how to transfer HD information to the larger unit, if it becomes availible.
Rubbinz @ Mar 26th 2007 2:30AM
WTF is a "Hardive"? And why the hell would I want to put it on my 360?
THA1icarus @ Mar 26th 2007 3:00AM
@6 That a great idea, but it opens up possibilities for homebrew makers to also use the hard-drive to launch programs. But it would still be nice, and @ the same time it would be the only reason for me to buy one...
Toph @ Mar 26th 2007 3:05AM
Not only do I wish the 120 HD was coming, I wish that MS discontinued the 'tard pack' 360 and only offered HD Premium systes. The game developers would be more free to utilize the HD for games, and that'd be a boon to all of us.
jimhuf @ Mar 26th 2007 4:35AM
how has no1 hacked together standard harddrive support for the 360. if you can connect it to your pc surely the next step is buying a pc harddrive 300gig for £50 then connecting that to the 360. i imagine somekind of formatting tool would be needed but i cant see how that can be harder than producing a modchip
Matthew @ Mar 26th 2007 4:56AM
I'm sure 120 gigs will come in handy when MS releases IPTV for the 360. I can't wait.
WaSSaBi @ Mar 26th 2007 5:02AM
Man... one thing i love about my PS3 is the ability to use a wide range of HDDs, Bluetooth Devices etc... you dont have to buy something that MS maid...
I wish Microsoft used that approach... but i guess MS has to make their money somewhere, since they are losing money on every console sold...
kevdogg @ Mar 26th 2007 5:24AM
@14 ...and sony isn't?
I just wish this whole thing would pan out faster so I can buy and x360 some time soon!
kevdogg @ Mar 26th 2007 5:24AM
buy AN x360
atsui @ Mar 26th 2007 5:45AM
I keep having to delete shit off my hard drive, so I'd buy a hard drive for the 360 in a heartbeat.
Boff @ Mar 26th 2007 5:59AM
I'd definitely be interested in a bigger hardrive. Or hard drive.
Azorean @ Mar 26th 2007 6:22AM
@14 Yeah I wouldn't want anything that a MS maid made either! lol j/k
squid @ Mar 26th 2007 6:32AM
At current microsoft 'acessories' prices theres no way I'm buying it. Make it only slightly more expensive than a regular external hard drive and then its a deal.
Sunny @ Mar 26th 2007 8:06AM
@12: Somebody already has done that. Problem is, since the 20gb has been the only size available, they set the kernel to only see 20gb of any hard drive you get into it.
spamsphen @ Mar 26th 2007 8:15AM
@14 Hey buddy, before you go ridiculing Microsoft and it's console why don't you get your facts straight. First of all if you had an intelligence at all and would actually research stuff before you talked about them you would come to find that as of months ago Microsoft is no longer losing any money per console sold. Whereas your beloved ps3 is losing hundreds. Sony is embarrassed with their sales of the ps3 and are busy looking for ways to make the ps3 not a disaster like it has been so far. So you go play on your little ps3 with your online gaming community of about 5 people while we here at XBOX360 fanboy will continue enjoying our console. Thanks :)
Juan @ Mar 26th 2007 8:26AM
This is s total fake! Just called my Gamestop and they don't even have it listed on their future items to be sold, so there wouldn't even be any advertisment for it yet.
Also, what they are trying to sell is a HARD DISK DRIVE, not a Hard drive, or a "Hardrive". The idiot that made this fake slipped on on that.
This of course does not mean this ISN'T coming out. I am sure a larger HDD is coming, but this ad is just a fake.
mike @ Mar 26th 2007 8:45AM
bah, not needed. I constantly have my 20gb filled but only cause I HAVE A BUNCH OF PLAYED DEMOS I dont delte untill I need to. I can get my drive down to 15GB free space in seconds. There is absolutly no need for a bigger drive unless your one of those tv and movies purchasers.
Im very interested in the hdmi tho. Ill have to tamper with my system to I can use that best buy warrenty and get the thing replaced with one of the newer units in the summer.
JJ @ Mar 26th 2007 10:48AM
Wow spam...easy there, all he mentioned is that he wished the 360 was a bit more "open" so you dont always have to pay the high price of MS branded stuff and you know what? I agree with him too.
He never said the PS3 was superior, just that he liked it open format. You can calm down a bit there slugger... no one was dissing your precious system.
Besides believe me, with the way things are going in the world today, arguing with someone because they like to play VIDEO GAMES on any system other than YOUR system of choice...is, well...kinda sad. Thats like making fun of someone for driving a different car or living in a different house than you. Except...those are WAY more important purchases.
JJ @ Mar 26th 2007 11:04AM
but I always thought HDMI wasn't important to MS to me this is a little wishy washy, but whatever, i'm happy with my current 360 and unless it craps out on me again, have no need for this new one, its gonna take more than a new HD and HDMI output to make me buy a whole 'nother unit at a premium price no less.
Saccia @ Mar 26th 2007 11:21AM
I fill up my 20GB drive ALL the time. I probably watch a few movies each month from the video marketplace and I'm constantly downloading demos and other fun content. The 120GB drive would be nice but I can probably get along without it if it comes out with a hefty price tag. Currently, it's a nice item to have. However, like most things, if bigger drives are out there, the chances are greater that more and more content will come out that I want to hang onto for a while making it harder for me to find something to delete.
kered @ Mar 26th 2007 12:31PM
120 GB!! Crapstation 3! X360 FTW!!
Benny @ Mar 26th 2007 3:19PM
That picture isn't a fake we got the same thing in our marketing pack at the GameStop that I work at. On top of the hard drive there is also an ad for the 512 mb memory card.
ZeroCorpse @ Mar 26th 2007 10:39PM
Useless?
Jeez. I'm going to have the Oblivion expansion on my hard drive, along with demos of all the games I don't own but am interest in, and 16 XBLA titles, not to mention all my game saves, several TV shows, and whatever is coming in the future.
It's COMPLETELY necessary to have more space!
I only wish Microsoft would have given us the option to add our own. . . Oh well. When the 120GB is out, I'm there.
Maybe YOU don't do any downloading, but my stock hard drive is almost full.
langx @ Mar 28th 2007 6:39AM
Does this thing run cooler than the current model. Thats what I need to know.
mark @ Mar 28th 2007 10:26AM
@14
actually microsoft, are profiting from $50-$70 each time a console is sold, and ps3 is losing about $100-$150 each time one is sold
blah blah @ Apr 17th 2007 3:05PM
its to keep up with ps3 60gb hd plus the fact that dvd dont hold as much data as blueray (ps3) so instead of having 4 disc games microsoft will rely on ppl downloading more games and 20gb is just nowhere near enough for that.
