Gamestop's accidental 120GB HDD preorder

Getting sick of the Xbox 360 Elite or the 120GB HDD rumors yet? Didn't think so. Today, TheDiggMan posted a screenshot from his online Gamestop searching where he stumbled upon the rumored 120GB Xbox 360 hard drive. Soon, after TheDiggMan found the listed 120GB HDD the item was taken down from the website, pulled by the Gamestop webmaster gnomes.
We're 97.4% sure that a 120GB HDD will be releasing soon, but what's interesting about this screenshot is the ship date and price information. $150 isn't a horrible price point seeing that it's $50 more than the 20GB HDD, but it's still a darn expensive peripheral. And if the April 1st pre-release date is correct we'll be putting all this HDD and Elite speculation to rest, because Microsoft should be making an announcement soon. Fanboys, if you're looking for more hard drive space, will you be purchasing the new Xbox 360 Elite or the seperate 120GB HDD add on? You know, that is if they are real.

For $149.99, if I can unload my 20gb on ebay for around $70, I'll order this immediately.
teddings @ Mar 27th 2007 1:13PM
100% chance this is fake. If you look at the release date (ignoring that it's April Fool's) you'll see that it says 4/01/07. If you see anything for pre-order on Gamestop, the release dates go along the lines of 04/01/07... Plus the date doesn't align correctly.
I'm not doubting the existance of the 120GB HDD, I'm just saying someone has too much time on their hands. :)
Mikeawesome @ Mar 27th 2007 1:19PM
I don't know.
The geek PC Builder in me says, "More HDD the better!" but the cheap PC Builder in me says, "That's way too much for a HDD" and the cautious Console Gamer in me says, "How badly do I really need that storage if I can't even get IPTV through my service provider?
Toph @ Mar 27th 2007 1:19PM
The Elite is too much money considering a trade-in for the Premium and the 20GB HDD is $220 total at Gamestop. Aside from that I'd look into getting the larger hard drive actually.
I wish SOME hard drive was a requirement for all 360 games.
Tony Bowman @ Mar 27th 2007 1:26PM
i'll probably only get the 120GB drive and not an Elite. i'm betting the rumors of the Elite coming in limited quantaties means of two things, the Elite is a stop-gap measure and an even better system is on the way with wide release, or that the Elite itself will be available in wide release and not in limited amounts.
either way, i'm sticking with my Premium until it gives up the ghost.

first of april... bwahahahaha

C'mon, you're ready to believe this thing is going to ship this Sunday? How gullible can you be?
I too am not questioning that the peripheral is in the pipeline, but this is a fake. No way the thing is shipping 4 days from now, on a Sunday yet, and MS would still be mum on it.
Might be time to unload some of my Arizona oceanfront property to the folks at 360fanbot... :)
DjDATZ @ Mar 27th 2007 1:51PM
now im thinkin i may get this instead of the elite itself...i couldnt care about the hdmi port or the color...i just want more space.
cfsage @ Mar 27th 2007 2:07PM
Assuming this is real, I don't use my 360 for anything but game storage, with the occasional movie rental that deletes itself within a certain time. 120 gigs would be overkill for now, but maybe down the road it would be nice, and would extend the life of the system if Microsoft was serious about that.
DarkTravesty @ Mar 27th 2007 2:14PM
a little thing to know that the first of any month on gamestop.com or ebgames.com is a placeholder date which usually means it comes out that month they just don't know when.
Virtua Fanboy @ Mar 27th 2007 2:22PM
If there was a way to transfer all my files maybe, na no not for 150 dollars? I'm not gonna be a sheep and give them anymore money for accessories. I have the hd dvd, wireless headset, vision camera, and a wired controller. I don't even want ta know how much money that is, lol. I'm not adding 150 dollars to that.
ChiTownRuler23 @ Mar 27th 2007 2:24PM
i saw the price and i was like not bad and then i see the date im like ha sure now i get it
PS360 dude @ Mar 27th 2007 2:26PM
I can get a 100 gig drive for my PS3 for less than one hundred dollars. And still use my old drive in my laptop. Microsoft rips you off! Get a PS3. It is future proof.

$150 is still too much.
The drive costs MS maybe $60? The price is insane any way you look at it.

I have a premium 360 and a Philips 60" Projection HDTV. If the Elite is coming, I will buy it and a 52" Sharp Aquos 1080P LCD HDTV. I will keep the premuim and 60" HDTV for the living room, and put the Elite, Aquos and PS3 in the new media room. That way I will finaly be able to play both 360 and PS3 games in 720P. My 60" HDTV does not do 720P so my PS3 games are in 480P. With 2 360's and HDTV's, I'll be able to play local system link multiplayer. The only problem with this is trying to pull myself away from all this cool stuff.

This is fake. Search for Halo on Gamestop and look at the pre-release date from Halo 3 and then compare that with the date for Halo 2 on the PC. If you go back to the screenshot of the HD you will notice that the text has too much spacing between "on" and the date. This is a fake picture. It should also be labled as '04/01/07' like Halo is labled as '05/08/07' not '5/08/07'.
Also, Sunday release? Yeah right! Somebody didn't do a very good job making that...
Bummer too, because a $149.99 price tag would be very welcome news...
adam @ Mar 27th 2007 2:43PM
I agree.
No way this is releasing this Sunday, on April Fools Day. Dumb if you believe it.
The price.. Im suprised microsoft isnt selling it for more. I mean they already suckered people into paying 100 bucks for a 20GB HDD. And whoever is saying 120GB is overkill. You wouldnt believe how fast 120GB fills up with movies and downloadable content such as Shivering Isles, and soon to be IPTV, whenever that happens.
But seriously, is there no way of replacing the HDD on your own? Its just a HDD for a laptop right? Or am I missing something here?
teddings @ Mar 27th 2007 3:13PM

Kinda (exactly) what I said. :p

I'm the sort of person that will have to buy this even if it meant selling my pancreas. (Not a problem seeing as im diabetic but dont tell anyone)

it my books the new xbox 360 elite and the hard drive are coming , am not still not sure if anything will be black but to start lets go back a few months when mysterious images of a claimed xbox 360 Zypher - supported by this website- http://ozymandias.com/archive/2006/07/13/Rumor_3A00_-HDMI-port-coming-to-360_3F00_.aspx
which this guy from microsoft recommened that msft should offer a upgrade program so existing users could get thes new Elite features for $.
Secondly, an IPTV guy from MSFT said they are going to have to make a new HD to hold all the new content and if they really wanted HD they needed an HDMI port on he box.
To be continued

Oh yeah.... I guess you beat me to it :s

Well, considering 120GB 2.5 inch HDDs retail for about $130 (remember, this is retail, what you get online is wholesale) that isn't too bad. Much, much better than the $99 for 20GB they had before.
Anyway, I would definitely be looking forward to getting this HDD, since disc space has been one of the biggest issues on the Xbox 360 as of late, especially with people who commonly use Video Marketplace, or download many demos, or a combination of them both and with other features coming (like IPTV), a bigger HDD is definitely going to be needed. It should go to being easy to fill up with several demos to taking quite abit to fill it up, which is definitely welcome.
But personally, I think they should sell this for $99 and drop the 20GB HDD down to like $40 or so. They should also replace the Core system with the Platinum and make the Elite the new Platinum.
Though I don't really care for getting the new black Elite Xbox 360. I actually like the white (though I also like black as well), and I have no need for HDMI (I use my Xbox 360 on a 22inch widescreen LCD monitor, which VGA works great on it. HDMI would just let me use the DVI-D part of the monitor, which will offer no difference to me (I already connected it to my PC and compared VGA to DVI-D, there's pretty much absolutely no noticeable difference on it to my eyes)). Plus, I don't want to have to REbuy the Xbox 360, and have to try to sell my older Xbox 360. Though, I will buy the Elite though if the 120GB HDD ends up being more than $150, and if the Elite has the 65nm chips and a quieter DVD drive, though.
h0mi @ Mar 27th 2007 4:39PM
Tony Bowman- the rumor is that the elite is limited edition only because it's black. In a while, the same console (in white) will be available as a premium system with the 120 gb HD add on. There's no telling what's doing with the core system though, but I think it will also have HDMI.
I really wish they would do away with the chrome.
wierddemon @ Mar 27th 2007 5:20PM
oops... sorry for the accidental double post...
Toph @ Mar 27th 2007 6:28PM
GAMESTOP INTERNAL INFO:
The Elite is indeed true and interstore emails mention notice of reserves to come within the next few weeks. I was not told an actual date.
I trust the manager of this Gamestop (he is a personal best friend and 360 fanboy.)
Price was not mentioned to me for the Elite console, but allegedly the 120HDD alone is $179.99, not $149.99, and there is no date mentioned for this unit either.
T Ghost @ Mar 27th 2007 8:14PM
The M$ steering wheel and Forza 2 are first in queue.
I Don't dig the video/movie buying on live, so why in hell should I spend US$150 in a Hard Drive?
Since launch date, I never maxed out my 20GB HD, so NO to US$150 HD.
Bad price in my opinion, It should be US$100 and the 20GB cut to US$50.
