GTAIV trailer is (not) live!

Awaited by hooligans, carjackers, and murder simulation fiends everywhere, the day has finally arrived. That's right, the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV has officially won the internets. At least, that's what we would be saying, if the official website hadn't instantaneously crashed the second the timer reached zero. With the positively massive hype around GTAIV, you'd think Rockstar (and Take-Two for that matter) would have the most ironclad servers on the planet. As of right now though, all attempts to load the trailer page have failed. Not to worry 360 Fanboys, we have our crack team of Xbox 360 Fanmonkeys (not to be confused with our team of Xbox 360 Fanmonkeys on crack) constantly hitting "refresh" at a furious pace. We've promised an entire bunch of bananas to the first one to successfully load the trailer. When it goes live, you'll be the first to know.

But what caused this crash? Sure, it could have been the monumental traffic aimed squarely at Rockstar. Either that, or Jack Thompson snuck his way into Take-Two's obsidian fortress with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.

#6, apparently you never played previous GTA games. Last I checked they had landmarks from real life in a fictional city.

It's definately NYC. The statue of Liberty, the Chrysler building, and at the end he's standing on the brooklyn bridge.

I think the game is going to take place in the '80s too tho, not the present. In the beginning the subway cars had graffiti on them. NYC had big problems with that in the '80s. I'm just guessing though, could be way off.

Very good looking video. I hope the game looks this good. I like the extra details, like the leaves on the trees, birds flying, etc.

I have high hopes that the game plays well.

Sort of dissapointed with this trailer. I really don't like Russians that much to play one and well we've done the city only theme with all the GTA's in liberty settings. Why not do something huge like San Andreas

Refresh my memory #9, I've played them all since GTA 3. Name some real life landmarks used in these games.

IV is in Liberty City all right, says so on the boat under "Platypus". I was just saying...

If I may speculate wildly for a minute - "perhaps here things will be different"

Could this imply an ethics system has been implemented? If the protagonist ponders a different lifestyle, perhaps you have ethical choices to make in the game?

It's Liberty City.

Look at the ship when he's talking about smuggling.

It says "Liberty City" on it.

It's unlikely they'd have NYC and Liberty City existing.

Sure it has landmarks from NYC, but so have all of the previous games.

Again, it's not NYC as much as its Liberty City. You'll see multiple shots in the video of things named Liberty___. I'd kind of rather it was a fictional place, myself.

At about :30 into the trailer, there's a sign in the lower left hand corner that pretty clearly says "Welcome to Liberty City".
