Guitar Hero III60 encore this fall
RedOctane's Support Center has an interesting tidbit of information regarding the next installment of Guitar Hero, and it's release schedule. The PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 can expect to be rocking out to a new set of songs to unlock in Guitar Hero III this Fall (for North America). This also will be Neversoft's first shot at the game, so it will interesting to see what direction they take the series, and if the pedal jack will be used or not. Do you think that this is too soon for the next game? Or is it justified as the PS2 release was back in November?[Via QJ.net]

Too soon? Maybe. So long as I can use the GH2 guitar, I'm fine...

I say, the more the better. There is not much more that the game can conceiveably do. The only thing that really matters are the notes flying down the screen, anything beyond that is superfluous. I say forgo a new version and just release song packs (say 20-40 songs for a reasonable price) 2-4 times a year.

Seems fully justified to me. Just because our version was released late doesn't mean everyone should have to wait.
I'm just curious how this will affect the flow of songs available for download for the current one. Are they going to hold back all the good songs for GHIII? Will we still see songs released for GHII after III is released? Will GHIII play all the songs we downloaded for GHII? Will we have to repurchase the GHII songs to play them in GHIII?

Yeah, it's a bit soon (for 360 owners at least) but with this type of game, more is always welcome. On a related note, I wish they'd at least give us a hint of when downloadable stuff for GH2 will be showing up....

I agree with Jonah. Some DLC for 2 would be nice though.

I think it is a bit too soon, even for PS2 owners. Fall 2007 is only one year after the release of GHII. If they need new songs, then Red Octane should release a "expansion pack" for PS2 owners for $20. It is really too soon for the Xbox 360 version. Most people have played all the songs on medium or hard but they are only getting 3 stars just to pass on. That is not beating the game.
I will still purchase it though as long as the game itself is $40-$50.

I'm down for a new GH, but if it's gonna come as soon as this fall then lets get these GHII downloads coming. I really thought that GH would be an excellent way to showcase XBL, with the ability to download new songs. But, unfortunately, like every other download or add-on they will probably be few & far between, and expensive.

Unless the game has a fun plot (think amped 3...) or some revolutionary new feature... why can't they just release songs as DLC instead of having us buy a full retail game for a new set list? oh wait so they can take $60 of my money instead of $20... right.

seems like an amazing game
Saxon @ Apr 10th 2007 2:18PM
The support screen just mentions GH2 now... was it a typo?
Matt @ Apr 10th 2007 2:22PM
Wow, they took it down! No longer a mention of GHIII.
Peff @ Apr 10th 2007 4:29PM
sooo should i wait to buy this one or buy GHII now? also that is about the same time halo 3 and half life 2 are coming out. all my summer money is gunna be gone.

one thing i think they can add is tons of customization to your character and guitar, you could make your own club or stadium to play at.
:)

As long as it doesn't require a new guitar... it's fine by me. Release a new one every three months for that matter. Just don't make it so that I can't use the guitar I already bought.

GH is the best set of games ever released. There is no doubt about that. As long as we can use the guitars we have I think a new song pack every couple of months would be the best idea I have heard. I don't know why they don't make some other model guitars you can buy. The idea of being able to update your character and make stadiums and venues is intriguing. An expansion pack every three months or so would have to be an amazing cash cow though. Keep them coming. Catagorize them. Do a metal pack. An eighties pack. An alternative, a classic. The list is endless. We would never stop buying the packs. At least I wouldn't. There are a million ways to package the game, but, just leave the guitars we have so that we can use them and other than that, keep the songs coming.
