Word on the intertubes is that Activision has
officially confirmed upcoming sequel
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare earlier this morning. This of course follows suite with Infinity Ward's
news post last week, as we'll be treated to the very first
CoD 4 video footage on April 28th during the NFL Draft airing on ESPN. Which is exactly what the
advertisement to the right confirms. So guys, let's recap.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been confirmed, it's being developed by Infinity Ward, and is leaving behind the WWII storyline. Remember, tune into ESPN on April 28th for your first look to what
CoD 4 has to offer ... we dare you to not be excited.

For fucks sake, its about time.
I was worried for a second that we were going to start regressing and making "Call of Duty: cowboys and indians" or "Call of Duty: slingshots and spears"
Took them long enough.
mattclarkie @ Apr 25th 2007 11:54AM
I love the games being set in WWII. Modern wars are nowhere near as fun as WWII, firing mortars and planting charges on artilary and tanks, what is boring about that.
And if we aren't shooting Nazi's I bet it will be terrorists wearing turbans. For Christ Sake it will turn into Rainbow Six. I love Rainbow Games, but do we need Call of Duty 4: Vegas
Activision, if you keep this up I may not purchase Call of Duty 9: Search for the WMD
Randy Bultena @ Apr 25th 2007 12:03PM
They also announced Call of Duty: Civil War
DjDATZ @ Apr 25th 2007 11:59AM
Call of Duty 6: Battle against PS9.
LOL
I might actually buy this call of duty game...i dont particularly like the old school type of games...LOL
Joe @ Apr 25th 2007 12:01PM
I don't want this Modern Warfare junk. There's already plenty of them. After getting the hunk of crap made by Treyarch that is better known as Call of Duty 3, we deserve another WW2 game from Infinity Ward. I'm so disappointed. I'll have to wait for news on the new Wolfenstein then.
Les Doodis @ Apr 25th 2007 12:13PM
Well, I probably won't be buying this game regardless, but one less WWII shooter in the world is okay in my book.
Ciaran Gallagher @ Apr 25th 2007 12:15PM
I don't like modern warfare games because most them are just propaganda, putting across the stereotype that everyone from the middle east are terrorists and are evil. There's countless games which involve American forces in Middle-Eastern countries killing everyone and the characters in the game celebrating and stuff like that.
Regardless of what games are released, just remember that there are just as many crazy, evil and stupid Americans as stupid, crazy, evil people in other countries like the middle east.
Bishop @ Apr 25th 2007 12:21PM
When did Rainbow Six: Vegas ever have a terrorist from the Middle East? And I didn't remember shooting anyone with a turban on. I actually remember shooting a lot of people with body armor on and with a central american accent. Not saying I would buy Call of Duty 4, but mostly due to the fact that I bought 3 and have only completed about 3% due to it sucking.
Knight Marquise @ Apr 25th 2007 12:31PM
@Ciaran Gallagher
Are you that stupid?
First of all, they're freakin video games! Not life sims. Get a grip you pc flake. Secondly, I don't see Americans cutting off peoples heads, driving planes into skyscrapers, or trying to obtain nuclear weapon to wipe out entire cultures due to a difference in religous beliefs. I hope to god you don't actually live in the United States, because that would make you a self loathing pc flake, and that's ever worse.
sheez.
magic whiskey @ Apr 25th 2007 12:37PM
Call Of Duty: Werewolf Women of the SS :)
ANt @ Apr 25th 2007 12:59PM
First of COD 3 was a great game, with some flaws. To say it sucked, you're obviously living in Mom and Dad's basement too long.
This could be good direction to go in, we'll see.....
jimhuf @ Apr 25th 2007 1:19PM
I hope they go for a more counter strike direction rather than GRAW. Theyve flogged the WW2 story to death and its good to see them moving forward if only to shut the people who will instantly say its crap and just the same as the last one but not as good.
blk_ballard @ Apr 25th 2007 1:31PM

pimpdee976 @ Apr 25th 2007 1:37PM
I hate these god damn call of duty game.frist person shooter's suck.who the f**k said these games are good. And f**k that piece of shit halo also.give me gta 4,mass effect, and too human, these are real f**king games.
KilgoreTrout XL @ Apr 25th 2007 1:53PM
I'll never get tired of WWII scenarios since I find the war to be totally fascinating. I've thought that all three CoD's were great, and would gladly welcome more titles of the same ilk. Take Guadalcanal or Iwo Jima, for instance. These famous battles- and others- have yet to make it into truly great shooters.
Still, Infinity Ward makes great games, and the smart money says that this one'll be great too. I just wish that other developers had taken notice of high number of WWII shooters out there- not the outfit which has been leading the way as far as graphics and playability are concerned.
THA1icarus @ Apr 25th 2007 2:02PM
What would be great is a modern war with Russia. You could have Russia on one side and Europe on the other side. Of cours the Europeans will mostly use American type of wapons. And Russia there own. Then you don't get the hole terrorist BS and you don't get the hole USA saving the world crap...
And Russia is just as bad as Iraq.
No democratic voting
No press freedom
Opresion of Muslims in Tetjenia
In one word a police state...
And I agree with Ciaran Gallagher.
America most not think that there the world police force. But that is an other subject.
TexRob @ Apr 25th 2007 2:07PM
Since when did COD go the way of Madden? Why not just start calling them what they are, COD 2007, 2008, etc.
Bezik @ Apr 25th 2007 2:12PM
Why doesnt anyone make vietnam games? I think that would be a nice change of pace
Rk @ Apr 25th 2007 2:16PM
@ Knight Marquise...
"I don't see Americans cutting off peoples heads."
No, they don't give them the dignity or escape of death, they just keep human beings suffering in places like Guantanamo Bay.
"Driving planes into skyscrapers"
(Planes actually fly) But no, just the standard cruise missiles for America. I'm sure if Al-Qaeda could get them, they'd use those instead of passenger jets.
"Or trying to obtain nuclear weapon to wipe out entire cultures due to a difference in religous beliefs."
Perhaps not nuclear but remember the Crusades? Christians attempting to wipe out other religions? What's the official religion of the US you ask? Christianity I believe!
You don't need to ATTEMPT to obtain nuclear weapons - you have them, and have USED them. Hiroshima, Nagasaki... hypocrites.
Anyway yeah... glad Infinity Ward are back on COD.
Wasabi @ Apr 25th 2007 2:43PM
@18 - I was thinking the same thing. A Vietnam game could be amazing. Cool weapons, cool environment, cool battles. Only problem is the Americans didn't win so the end of the game might be kind of a buzzkill.
In WWII games we're the heroes...
Knight Marquise @ Apr 25th 2007 3:26PM
@Rk
“No, they don't give them the dignity or escape of death, they just keep human beings suffering in places like Guantanamo Bay.”
The “dignity of escape or death” via decapitation? Are you sick? And don’t push your PC BS about Guantanamo being some sort of execution chamber. Those enemy combatants have it better then most populations in third world countries. Hell, they have it better then a lot of our own impoverished in western society. But, decapitation seems to be alright in your book.
“Planes actually fly) But no, just the standard cruise missiles for America. I'm sure if Al-Qaeda could get them, they'd use those instead of passenger jets.”
And the fact that Al-Qaeda would use cruise missiles instead of civilian jet liners to crash into civilian population centers is any better? Evidently that would be ok with you as well? Of course planes actually fly, but your attempt at moral equivalence fails. Again, we’re not targeting civilian population centers of a race of people because they don’t happen to subscribe to a particular form of religious zealotry.
“Perhaps not nuclear but remember the Crusades? Christians attempting to wipe out other religions? What's the official religion of the US you ask? Christianity I believe!
You don't need to ATTEMPT to obtain nuclear weapons - you have them, and have USED them. Hiroshima, Nagasaki... hypocrites”
What do you mean “perhaps not nuclear”? They have stated that their aim is to acquire weapons of mass destruction and use them on western civilizations. Again, stop it with the attempt at moral equivalence. No, I don’t remember the Crusades. Do you want to know why? Because it happened almost a 1000 years ago. I wasn’t there, neither were you. I’m talking about today, as in the 21st century, not back in medieval times. Regardless, was I there a 1000 years ago, I wouldn’t have agreed with that either. So essentially, what you’re stating is because of something that occurred 1000 years ago, it’s ok for the terrorist fanatics to try and obliterate western society and culture. Today. In the 21st Century. Very smooth.
I imagine, with your line of reasoning, that you also don’t believe that Hitler was a bad person, nor did he try to exterminate the Jewish race.
As for us having Nuclear weapons, yes “we” do, as do most western governments. However, you don’t see us, or the Europeans stating that because you don’t believe in some twisted form of a religion, we’re going to use them. We did use them to end WWII. Woop-de-do. It ended a world conflict and saved many lives for the Allies. They were used to end a war that was started by the Axis powers, not the Allied powers.
Hypocrites? Not hardly. But you, sir, are sick.
Anyways, anything that Infinity Ward creates, will most likely be an exceptional game.
Killer @ Apr 25th 2007 4:27PM
@Knight Marquise
Bravo! Bravo! *(Standing ovation for that)*
About post:
Other, then that. Thank god infinity ward I missed you. Call of duty 3 was great graphical, but it was lame in story and in glitches. Can't wait for call of duty 4 on pc. lol I hate world war 2 games on the consoles, sorry.
@Rk
I would say something, but I think Knight pretty much said everything. Also though,
“Perhaps not nuclear but remember the Crusades? Christians attempting to wipe out other religions? What's the official religion of the US you ask? Christianity I believe!
You don't need to ATTEMPT to obtain nuclear weapons - you have them, and have USED them. Hiroshima, Nagasaki... hypocrites”
HOLY CRAP! The official religion of the U.S. is christianity? How does that work since we have never declared our official religion ever? You say because majority of the country is then it's the official religion. If you haven't notice America is a free country where you can choose your religion. We have never declared our official language ever, either. We are that free to choose. (even though it's a pretty good guess it's english, since 300 million people already speak it.)
Hmmm...Crusades (1095-1291) The year is what? 2007? I do believe. It's about 1,000 years since it began.
Beginning of relgions:
Christianity (apx. 1,000 A.D.)
Islam (apx. 700 A.D.)
Hmmm..the christain relgion is 300 years younger, yet christianity has advanced beyond the kill the non-believer idea.
Interesting. Seriously man you need help. You're history and your facts don't even meet up with your ideas.
All the stuff you said hasn't happen for 60 or more years (Atomic bombs, Crusades). you need to come up with some really relavent historical facts.
jimhuf @ Apr 25th 2007 4:35PM
Christ. get a grip.
Bishop @ Apr 25th 2007 5:22PM
I should rephrase when I said COD 3 sucked. It wasn't my favorite WWII game. I couldn't get into it as much as the MoH series for some reason, and I tried. But you know, congratulations on thinking all people who didn't like COD 3 live in their parent's basements. And even if that were true, we aren't the ones resorting to childish remarks.
I also would love to see a Russian like war game or Vietnam. Anything really would be a nice change of pace to all the WWII ones. How many are there anyways?
Knight Marquise @ Apr 25th 2007 5:27PM
@ Killer
I agree. I really enjoyed COD2, and was very dissapointed in COD3. After the 3rd getting stuck glitch, I just put the game back in the case and forgot about it. Infinity Ward makes solid games, and personally I'm looking forward to their spin on future warfare.
Boff @ Apr 26th 2007 5:31AM
FFS can we just get back on topic please?
Someone get a vid of the trailer up once it's aired so the rest of us can see it.
mattclarkie @ Apr 26th 2007 1:45PM
I am sorry I started this debate about the Middle East.
CoD 3 was a very fun game to play, it just wasn't as good as CoD2. I liked the archive footage and letters home, they gave it class. CoD 3 tried to be more like a film giving the characters stories such as the coward. Plus it glitched. Everyone should finish that game, it is worth it, but CoD 2 was best.
And who said there are millions of WWII games. I go into a shop and the only ones are CoD and Battlefield 1942. Where is this genre that is done to death.
And the guy that hates FPS. I'll shove a fusion core up your a@@ and stick you with a plasma grenade you Halo hating weirdo.
Serve @ May 6th 2007 10:21PM
A Korean war game wouldnt be bad....pretty grim operations took place there...hills,cities..and could pretty much get away with the old weapons from other COD's.
