"Hidden Fronts" screenshots hit the tubes

Not long after we announced the upcoming Multiplayer Map Pack for Gears of War, we were sent screenshots of the four arenas. We have to say, they look mighty nice. Our favorites being that of Garden and Bullet Marsh, which both really take the "destroyed" beauty motif to the next level. Process looks nice, with the eery yellow glow of the Imulsion surrounding the battlefield, but Subway looks kind of run of the mill in the available shots. What do you think of the levels? The rest of the map shots are available after the break.

agelgamer @ May 2nd 2007 7:40PM
Let's face it... Gears of War was one of the BEST games last year. The last map pack was free. I'll be buying it as soon as it's available. I don't mind supporting these guys.
Tyson @ May 7th 2007 9:15PM
i dont mind supporting these guys the game WAS and still IS spectacular but isn't 10 bucks a little too steep for some stinkin stages??? better talk those boys at microsoft down a little bit cuz i'm waitin till september otherwise
Brian @ May 1st 2007 4:36PM
I can't wait to play Bullet Marsh. That's probably the best map to turn the tide in Warzone, because whoever hits the generator probably will be the last to be hit by Kryll.

I signed it dude! No.35 lol

It'd be nice to add some kind of depth in the levels interactivity by maybe adding Troika like turrets of light seen in the campaign to battle of the Kryll. Maybe something similar to what "Brian" said earlier.
I'am actually quite happy about the new Subway map. Something that could add some depth to the game with random shit going on. Sort of like a remake of Tyro Station with a mix in with some more maneuverable environments.
Just my thoughts one what could add some spice into the Gears we have all come to od on till the next batch of games.
JrezIN @ May 1st 2007 6:30PM
This is the part where I do stop everything I'm doing, quit my job and start making a game where you don't pay anything to get it, them I make you pay 2cents for every time you play it online with each map... so, if in one week you play 100 times each map, let me count my profit... well... Maybe I won't even charge for each 4 times you play each map again!
Hmm... it still don't look enough to buy me a island... well, let talk with the guy in charge of the drug dealing in this area and asking him to partner up in this business... He has a lot of good experiences with free samples!

Sorry Epic. You lost my respect.
I won't forgive you Microsoft!
Warren Buckley @ May 1st 2007 6:42PM
I'm sure your Mommy and Daddy will buy it for you after all this crying. It's $10, grow up.
B Tizo @ May 1st 2007 6:56PM
Get over yourselves. Gears is THE Killer App for the 360 and Epic has been great. We got free maps and a gametype already. They have been working hard on these new ones and they need to pay their employees. And, for those patient people, it's free in September. Quit complainging and enjoy the fact that you can make choices and add to an alreadfy amazing game.
Grant @ May 1st 2007 8:22PM
JrezIN,
people used to have a similar price structure, it was called an arcade, and if you didn't notice, those were very profitable for about a decade.
$10 boils down to $2.50 a map, which you can play as much as you want.
$10 to breathe that much new life into gears is nothing compared to how much more everyones going to play.
JrezIN @ May 1st 2007 9:32PM
Grant,
if you know Arcades... you know they're dying because no one wants to pay that much anymore when they can play at home better games with less money.
You're talking about US dollars, what you don't get is that not everyone think it's "cheap", please make a research to find how much that means in EVERY country that Xbox 360 has been released, keep in mind that medium amount of money that every family in this country earns and compare with the medium amount of money that every US family makes and do the math (not that hard)... Now, keep in mind that it's not the average arcade we're talking about,
we're talking about online games and to play online games everyone needs to be at the same situation... that means maps as well. So, after they're released, if you don't buy them, you'll be dropped from the "server" (as there's no real dedicated server in the game) just because you can't afford buying more MS points or because you don't agree with the way MS is forcing Epic to charge for this maps.
They're unsaying things that made me (and lots of people) buy this game. They're basically making people second class citizens with this maps. And they're (MS) just starting...
Now, call that "freedom" if you want... just don't call my fries that way!
Rick @ May 1st 2007 10:42PM
You like being paid for the work you do at your job, right?
I bet the folks at Epic and M$ do, too.
CalabreZ @ May 1st 2007 10:51PM
Eyy dis is a message for X3F, if u guys every post anything about MS Points, cud u translate it into CDN Dollars or anything else besides American?:)
CalabreZ @ May 1st 2007 10:56PM
**PPL I HAVE AN IDEA.** Da day the maps come out, nobody buy them. Try to get something going online where no one buys da maps to prove a point. Ye i no its 10 dollars, but still if something was gonna be free that I'd rather MS not sucker me for money. 10 bucks from all of us equals a lotta money.
DONT BE A TOOL.
SCREW MS CHARGING PPL
ON MAY 3RD, DONT BUY!!!!
Tom @ May 1st 2007 11:15PM
The only real problem with charging for maps is that it divides the userbase. There will be a lot of people reluctant to host a game on one of the new maps for fear of there not being enough people at any given time of the day to quickly fill up a room. This problem should go away as soon as the maps drop for free in September, though, so I'm glad Microsoft and Epic were able to reach a compromise in that regard.
walsh84 @ May 1st 2007 11:41PM
It's important to remember how fortunate we have been to receive two patches (lol, title updates) for free. Other titles have had paid map packs since their conception.
Put things into perspective.. even if you flip burgers at your local McDonalds, chances are you will have that $10 in about 2 hours. Now think about how many mind-numbing hours you will spend playing and replaying these maps -- it's clearly worth it. And for those of you who don't feel the same, be happy that they will eventually offer these maps for free (in exchange for your patience).
thevvhiteshadow @ May 2nd 2007 1:52AM
It's ten dollars. If you've made the call to spend 60 plus on the game, and whichever of the varying subscriptions to XBL, then what's ten dollars more? Or you could try and wait until September, and use that $2.50 you saved each month and buy some of that Halo 3 retard fuel from Mountain Dew (sike...that shit is gonna be the best...the drink and the game.) Just my two cents.
Anticrawl @ May 2nd 2007 2:10AM
Hey now, you all act like Epic published the damn game. Well they didn't, they developed it. In the end when it comes to final says on the business side Microsoft gets it. They wanted the map pack to have a fee even though Epic wanted it to be free, so they came to somewhat of an agreement by making them free later. Jesus christ, if you are gonna point a finger, point it in the right direction.
That all said I can't resist getting these new maps, cost or no cost. Besides I could not eat fast food 1.3 times to be able to afford and enjoy these maps 1.3 billion times. By the way I have to say, if anyone can make a tree sexy it's epic, and boy are they pushing all the right buttons.

Anticrawl @ May 2nd 2007 2:13AM
On another note, just think of how many thousands of outsourced workers employed by microsoft will get paid with your single ten dollar contribution. Have you given to charity lately? I thought not, your ten dollars could support half of the outsourced workers for a month.
Anticrawl @ May 2nd 2007 2:17AM
You all wonder why it takes so long to get transfered to and from each moron until someone can help you at tech support. Well it's because they can't afford fingernail trimmers and that makes it quite difficult to enter work tickets and dial numbers. Just think, your 10 dollars turns 7 hours on tech support in to 7 minutes of wasted life instead. If only that would help with the time those of you have wasted after reading my rambling comments, yeah I am in the computing services field...
Randy Bultena @ May 2nd 2007 2:26AM
So much money
LongshotX @ May 7th 2007 10:24AM
Nothing is free in life and 2.50 for 4 maps isn't all that bad. You guys are cheap as hell. Personally I'm getting them. September? Yeah the fuck right...
chris @ May 2nd 2007 11:56AM
Heres an idea, if you dont want to spend the money then dont. You can complain to all the other people that dont have the maps for 4 months (almost half a year) while you wait for them to become free. I guarantee you will be pissed when you cant get into any of your friends rooms because they will all be having the time of their lives fragging away on the new maps.
I wont like it, but I am buying the maps the second they become available. Trying to prove a point (to no one) by not purchasing the maps will accomplish little to nothing and will most likely be an effort gone unnoticed. M$ doesnt give a crap if you buy them or not. Billy is the richest man alive and could give 2 shits if you play GoW or not.
Just deal with it....no one cares if you buy them. Just be happy new content is coming out and youll be able to play. Bitching like this definitely does not motivate epic to develop new content if this is the way it is going to be received (with bitching instead of a THANK YOU.)
