Crackdown gets a facelift with new DLC [update 1]
The guys over at TeamXbox received an exclusive preview of the new downloadable content that will be available for Crackdown later this week. And overall we're impressed. Yup, the new Crackdown content dramatically changes up gameplay and will have you putting the game back in your weekly gaming rotation. But let's look at the specifics. First off, there will be an auto update for the game which will address various game issues from louder orb notification sounds to a new gang reset option. They even made the fire hydrants less evil. Second up is a free piece of DLC called the Free-For-All Pack which will add exciting features like a new Keys to the City mode and an Impounding Vehicles option. Again, all for free. Thirdly is the Getting Busy Bonus Pack which will cost an unknown amount of Microsoft Points and will include new vehicles, weapons, and various other game modes. Stay with us now.
Finally, Realtime Worlds is adding a total of seven new achievements that spread across the free and paid content. Two achievements (totaling 140 Gamerscore) are attainable with the Free-For-All Pack while five other achievements (totaling 210 Gamerscore) are in the Getting Busy Bonus Pack. Also interesting to note is that the premium Getting Busy Bonus Pack can be played in co-op with a friend who doesn't have the content and, as such, a few achievements exclusive to the pack can be obtained by both players. Full writeup and videos after the jump.
Update 1: Xbox.com states that the Getting Busy Bonus Pack will cost 800 Microsoft points.

Sounds pretty good. Maybe I'll even look for those last few agility orbs when this comes out, since they'll get louder when you don't have many left.

I really enjoyed the base game so I'm looking forward to checking all the extra content out.
Some of the DLC being free is a nice touch and should make whatever the price is for the non-free stuff more palatable.
But will it definitely come out late this week? So many things missing their release dates at the moment...
Hoffer @ May 10th 2007 7:01AM
Where in the article did it say it is coming this week??
Zoot Suit Jedi @ May 10th 2007 7:11AM
Hoffer,
Did you read the first sentence?
Hoffer @ May 10th 2007 7:36AM
I found where it said this week. It wasn't in the article, but on teamxbox.com's main page in the title for the article.

Awesome, I've been holding off on finishing it so I wouldn't get bored once I killed all the gang bosses, but now I can finally finish it.

Honestly, I felt this game was a huge letdown and really had little to no motivation to play it after I had beaten the main game in co-op. It felt like sandbox without any toys.
But here's the damn toys, that stuff looks awesome and I'm already getting ideas of stuff to try in the game. I can finally go back and rampage through bosses with friends again as well. I'm glad they've actually listened to people's complaints and went back and beefed up the sandbox aspect of the game.

bad news for the gamer score addicts out there, now you have to pay for DL content in order to get all the gamer score points for a game.
what a way to convince people to drop the cash for content they may otherwise ignore.
xenocidic @ May 10th 2007 11:19AM
@robert , actually it seems that free content will get you up to 1040 gamerscore, which is strange, I thought that only PAID DLC was allowed to take you above and beyond the 1000 base.
Jim @ May 10th 2007 11:36AM
@ xenocidic
Nope, they're required to release the first thousand points for free, but the last 250 can be either free or charged. And yeah, Robert, what part of "Two achievements (totaling 140 Gamerscore) are attainable with the Free-For-All Pack" isn't clear enough? That makes 1040 points for free.

I think this is a really smart move on their part and it appears to be a good balance for the consumers. They listened to what people wanted and are delivering some good content for free. It gets you back into a game that is several months old and then that helps sell the other DLC. Smart.
Best of all it sounds like the pay-for DLC is actually something worth buying.
Jon @ May 10th 2007 1:47PM
Hell Yea!
sssssteve @ May 10th 2007 1:49PM
actually Jim you paid for 1000 of that 1040 (because they only gave us 900 to begin with)...but it is somewhat of a thank you, isn't it. 40 achievement points? ill take it
hopefully this comes out after my last final tomorrow or i'm fucked!
James @ May 10th 2007 2:26PM
I hope the free content is enough motivation for me to dust the disc off, because I don't think I'm willing to sink another 10 bucks into this game. It was fun, it was worth what I paid, but I'm not sure I love it enough to spend my (very limited) solo gaming time on it. Now, the Halo beta is another story...
