Modders uncover flamethrower in Halo 3, more

It seems that a group of crafty modders have uncovered what could be new content from Halo 3. Apparently, some modders have dug into the Halo 3 beta code and found mention of several new weapons, vehicles, and new names for medals (Double Kill, etc). While some of this information is likely to be placeholder or possibly even trash that has yet to be deleted from the final code, it does add some interesting ideas to what we already know. See a list of what was found after the break.

Vehicles:

Pelican
Shadow
Phantom
Chopper

Weapons:

Flamethrower (Frankie hinted at this in his interview with Joystiq)
Plasma turret
Claymore grenade (possible codename for Spike Grenades?)
Covenant Gun Tower (possibly a new kind of turret?)

Equipment items/Power-ups:

Jammer (possibly the radar scrambler shown in a leaked video)
Invincibility
InstaCover
Smoke (smoke grenade? smoke screen?)

New Medals:

Killocalypse
Killionaire

There is also talk of a new mode called Infection, in which players kill Flood or risk infection. Points are awarded for killing Flood, while those on the Flood team earn points by infecting humans. There is even mention of a map editor. Now, keep in mind that none of this is in any way official. Also, the info has since been removed from the forum on which it was originally posted. There is a very good chance some (or even all) of this content will not make it into the retail release. Take it all with a cubic foot of salt.

hmm. well i remember that a flamethrower and minigun were planned for the original halo (pre-xbox), and with the removable turrets, we pretty much have a minigun. and since this may very well be the last halo, bungie will probably want to include everything they initially planned on. so, why not? just hope they can put the fuel rod cannon in multiplayer, where it belongs. also, wonder how they think they can pull off the pelican on 8v8.

infection isnt new, we played that in custom gametypes where once you got killed by the zombie then you had to become him

sure, zombie's been around, but it wasn't a real game type. people just had to manually change teams on a slayer game. and sure, it's not that big of a deal, but making it an official game variant will open up possibilities, put it in matchmaking rotation, and make it just plain convenient.

Beta is great, valhalla needs major texture and graphic updates but besides that everything is nice, and matchmaking needs to get you into games faster it takes 10 minutes to load up a game and 5 minutes to play that game, matchmaking goes through too many things, and whats up with "loading information from xbox live" that takes like hours!!!!

Covenant Gun Tower already in the beta as it shoots you in SnowBound upon exiting of the map

so nothing new was really found in the code..

I thought the new game mode was worthy, and Agree about the Coventant turret being the one clearly seen in SnowBound.

Also I cracked the beta myself, Im a l33t hacker myself... Found a lancer. Apparently it's an assulkt rifle but with a Plasma Chainsaw on it. Sounds wicked original.

Am I the only one who thinks this is fake? First huge hint, "Hold "E" to swap for" wheres the E button on the 360 pad. Also theres a pistol in the screen shot there...there ain't no pistol in the beta. Oh yea and the textures look shite lol

All those vehicles are def real, except Ive never heard of a Shadow. I heard the Chopper is like a gravity motorcycle. The flamethrower is one of those third person weapons I bet!

Chopper and Phantom were already hinted at in a previous update where certain names were italicized.

On the beta page about file hosting it says will host movies (for now...) so mapmaking makes sense as it comes with the pc versions

we already expected the pelican for the huge map

the flamethrower may be good only if its like the 1 on the pc

I have mixed feelings about the Beta so far. On one hand, I really like the all for one modes as long as they are not sniper/shottie only. And some of the team modes are cool, although I'm firmly lukewarm on 'BALL' game (can't remember the real name of that mode).

But one thing is for sure, these CAN'T be the final graphics, if they are, Microsoft will have a major fit! I was underwhelmed will the graphibs while playing, but it was much worse when I went directly from playing the Beta to playing GRAW2. GRAW2's graphics were in a whole different league. The difference really was quite shocking, especially considering Bungie was supposedly mandated by Bill Gates himself to make Halo 3 THE most technologically advanced game on the planet when it releases.

Right now, it plays well, no frame rate issues and such, but it has all the shine of a third world taxi.

The only new things are the metals and the "infection" gametype.

Killocalypse= 9 kills?
Killionaire= 10 kills?

The first three vehicles would have no business being in 8v8 multiplayer. Either they're simply deleted assets with the tags remaining in the code from single player(highly likely), or there will be ridiculously huge (40 person) multiplayer battles.

yeah, bungie mentioned in a weekly update a long time ago, something about a "chopper" and "mauler". a shadow isn't new, it's the covenant troop transport (3 or em) that you have to destroy on Metropolis in H2. they're the vehicles that carry the ghost inbetween the front and back ends. and infection would be pretty sweet, because i hate playing zombies the way it is now. but if it was a legit gametype w/auto team switching and correct score keeping, that would be awesome.

after playing a good amount of the beta i can say thats it's much more tactical that 1 or 2. i had actually meantioned that a smoke grenade would work great in it, and i would love to see it.

i mean it really seems like a given, you can think up a "power drainer" but not a smoke grenade?
now a flashbang, that just wouldn't fit in at all.

This is so seriously sweet if its true. I suggested a multiplayer gametype called "Infection" on the Bungie forums nearly a year ago, and detailed how it would involve one player as a Flood infection form running about and mutating other players for points.

Even if it was a common sense conclusion for Bungie to arrive at for their third title, its still really cool to think they read my idea.
