Halo 3 four player co-op confirmed?
The other day we reported on a hacking group that cracked opened the Halo 3 beta code and found values referring to new weapons, new vehicles, and new gametypes. But now it looks like the beta code has revealed more info about how we'll be playing the campaign. Over at the 7th Columnist they dug up some error text in the Halo 3 beta code that could confirm four player co-op, which states "The party size is too large to start the game. Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link". Does this confirm four player co-op in campaign? Well, not just yet ... but we'll be an optimistic bunch and cross our fingers and toes. Anyone thinking four player co-op over Xbox Live would be the greatest thing since, say, sliced bread?[Thanks, DjDATZ]

Bungie is doing an amasing job i dont know how they fit this all on one disk but i guess they can
DaveC @ May 20th 2007 11:56AM
Awesome, please be real, please be campaign.
bearattack79 @ May 20th 2007 12:02PM
Have they found anything about the warthogs winch. Apparantly the winch is deployed using the equipment function while driving.
:)

This would be sweet!
AcidWire @ May 20th 2007 12:12PM
Hell yes.
Austin @ May 20th 2007 12:29PM
I know all these new features are unconfirmed, but man, they sure sound great. It's all the stuff I wished was in Halo 2. Speed control, gravity control, 4 player co-op, co-op over live, destructable vehicle disabling... now if they would include an option to turn off the homing of the rocket launcher, that would finish off my list.
Stewart @ May 20th 2007 12:43PM
Austin: Rocket's don't home anymore. The Missile pod does, but the rockets don't.
yankeyhotel @ May 20th 2007 12:55PM
I knew Bungie had a lot more up their sleeves then what they were letting on.

Graw 1+2 16 Player Coop Op
R6 Vega 4 player co-op
Meh
dalec @ May 20th 2007 1:03PM
$ player co-op campaign would be perfect.
buff0x @ May 20th 2007 1:10PM
nothing special, its what all major fps games should have as standard anyways
Mr Pimpbot @ May 20th 2007 1:17PM
@10, true, but in Graw the Coop wasn't in the single player campaign, it was just the multiplayer maps with bots and objectives. I still enjoyed it but would FAR prefer Coop in the single player campaign. And for R6 Vegas, it's the same thing 4 player. So I don't say Meh, I say YEAH!!!!
Zeus the God @ May 20th 2007 1:22PM
Yeah... Halo 2 blows... But the beta (even though it is JUST a beta) blows away Halo 2.
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, yes. 4 player co-op would be great, but they are a little late on that bit.
Jeff @ May 20th 2007 1:28PM
This is not confirmation. please don't get our hopes up.
bearattack79,
you really want people to believe that Warthog winch lie you keep spreading around, don't you?
Sean @ May 20th 2007 1:44PM
4 player co-op of anything would be fun! Hopefully there's actually a story instead of the bullshit we were fed with Halo 2 - what a fucking awful campaign that was.
Phil @ May 20th 2007 1:40PM
At the very least it should have online Co-op for 2 players.
That was established in Gears as a must have for Good Console FPS and shooters.
Peff @ May 20th 2007 1:57PM
pleaseeeee. oh my gosh that would be insane.
WarriorDyke @ May 20th 2007 1:59PM
Having 4 player co-op is great, but all that other stuff that was 'uncovered'...its mostly 'trash code' don't get your hopes up seeing something like a fart grenade. alot of what is being 'found' is just junk code that'll never make it into the retail game.
k0llateral @ May 20th 2007 2:04PM
I can't really picture playing the Halo 3 campaign with 4 people... 2 always seemed right to me. However, If they can pull it off well, then HELL YEAH, I'm excited.
bearattack79 @ May 20th 2007 2:09PM
Ok Jeff..... You win this round!
Dammit, he's good.
John @ May 20th 2007 2:09PM
I think 4 player co-op would indicate some massive battles and more open spaces. Imagine trying to dungeon crawl like Halo 1 and 2 had with the tight tunnels and rare open areas.
JBurton @ May 20th 2007 2:20PM
Well Frankie is always talking about maps of HUGE scale...
Gil-Galad @ May 20th 2007 2:41PM
I hate people that say the story in halo 2 was crap. At that point, it was apparent that it was going to be a trilogy, and the second part of a trilogy is always a cliffhanger/let-down. Think of any major trilogy, and the second one is always just kind-of there. It has to be there to advance the plot, but you can't really introduce too many new things, because it doesn't have a beginning, and it doesn't have a conclusion. It's the middle. The only was you will be able to say it was crap is if bungie doesn't deliver on three's campaign.
Zeus the God @ May 20th 2007 2:49PM
@Phil:
"16. At the very least it should have online Co-op for 2 players.

Not quite. That was one of the major (yet unnoticed) contributions that Doom 3 made on the original Xbox. That's why Epic put it in, is because Id did it.
mike @ May 20th 2007 3:28PM
this could be really fun. I hope they get rid of the auto-respawning from halo 2 co-op. Theres no p[oint to co-op if you have unlimi8ted lives. They need like a system where if a player dies, you need to kill like 10 enemies before that player can come back to life. (or use a system like perfect dark 64 where when you die, some health is permenantly taken off of the guy still alive in order to stay in the game. Or have it like PDZ where no player can die at all.
+ I want to have a challenge with 4 player co-op. I dont want it to be the single player with 4 players. I want it to be the single player with 4x the ammount of enemies or make them way more difficult so you actually have to work as a team to win.
Eddy @ May 20th 2007 3:40PM
OLD NEWS FOR ME
would be pretty cool though
bigbeck89 @ May 20th 2007 4:02PM
It'd be cool, but coop doesnt really tie into the story...
jason @ May 20th 2007 3:58PM
@26
you could just play it on legendary
Mr Pimpbot @ May 20th 2007 4:00PM
@ Mike, I actually like how they did the respawning in Halo 2. The player that died would not respond until the player that is alive got out of combat whether it be by retreating or killing everything left. And on legendary there were no respawns.
Dragod @ May 20th 2007 4:30PM
How great would it be if Bungie put all of this in here in purpose, to mislead us? ;)
Though I hope it's only 2 player co-op on one Xbox, or 2-4 players over Xbox Live. Older 360's will have a problem, they seem to struggle with 4 Players on one Xbox, and over Xbox live it gets much worse.
Eddy @ May 20th 2007 5:33PM
@30
if you read the books of Halo(im currently 3/4 done with the first) then you would see that the Spartans are ALL about teamwork, therefore making co-op a perfect fit.
Zeus the God @ May 20th 2007 5:42PM

Where did you come up with this fallacy? There is no difference between older Xboxes and the new Xboxes. I know because I have had mine since launch. I have absolutely NO problems with 4 players on a single box.
bigbeck89 @ May 20th 2007 6:00PM
@32
i have read all the books...finish the first one (or just play the first game) then you see why more than one spartan does not fit into the story
Hoffer @ May 20th 2007 6:24PM
Even if it is just like coop story mode like in R6V, that would be awesome. Anything coop is good.
YoRone22 @ May 20th 2007 6:48PM
@34
*SPOILERS*
If you read all the books, then you read the third one that says there are still some Spartans alive.
gtavcmaster100 @ May 20th 2007 7:48PM
This is not confirmed. All they did was look through the map files in a hex editor and found a string that said something about 4 player coop. This confirms nothing. First of all, the game isn't even done, and even the completed Halo 1 and 2 code had extra things that were not included. I am sick of hearing all this bullshit about "leaked" information. This is nothing but left over shit in the map files.
Joel Brown @ May 20th 2007 10:31PM
4-player Co-Op in Halo 3 for the Campaign mode would be excellent!
PLEASE, Bungie, let this be true!
I want to play 4-player Co-Op SO MUCH in Halo 3!
Kirbdaddy @ May 21st 2007 1:07AM
4-player co-op would make the game pretty freaking easy, don't you think? Unless only one plays as MC and the others are regular marines.
Marty @ May 21st 2007 7:08AM
I love how modders are universally branded as evil on this site (e.g. the story about disabled consoles), but then xb360fanboy leaches off their discoveries to make news stories... Great integrity.
1Darkchef @ May 22nd 2007 4:00PM
WYSIWYG
Now all they have to do is add the Energy sword. If they have the sword already, then they still need sword-canceling. (I am not explaining sword-canceling to anyone! If you don't know, you don't go!)
They also need a playable deathmatch with the mission playing in the background. Send the fight through the levels...
Wari0 @ May 25th 2007 6:02PM
So far the graphics in HALO3 are teh suk.
HeyEAEatMet @ Jun 7th 2007 8:23AM
4 players co-op would be awesome, which means that Legendary must pretty damn hard and a lot of fire happening from the enemies, oh well make it worth it by having alternate cinema sequences if its really hard, the 1st 2 weren't playing co-op at any level though
