Molyneux hints at next big Fable 2 announcement
Super Lionhead Studios fansite Loinhead scored an exclusive interview with the creative mastermind behind Fable 2 Peter Molyneux. And in the interview Molyneux talks a little bit about his past failures (Black and White 2), in-game combat, and hints at one of Fable 2's next big announcements ... death. Molyneux doesn't give any specifics to how death will be incorporated into Fable 2, but goes on to say that in other games when you die "you go back in time twenty minutes to do the same thing over again. That's fine if I'm playing a platformer, not so fine if you're doing an RPG game". So, traditional ways of dealing with death will not be good enough for Fable 2. But we've already known that Lionhead doesn't plan on taking the traditional path with the sequel (dog anyone?).Check out more of Molyneux's candid discussion in Loinhead's complete video interview posted after the break.

He's an interesting fellow. I really hope Fable 2 ends up being a great game.

Honestly, what is so amazingly revolutionary about that dog? I had a dog in Fallout. Fallout players probably had the same amount of love for Dogmeat as they'll ever have with this Fable 2 mutt. How many times did you load the game because poor Dogmeat got blown away by a mutant with a minigun? Dogmeat 'loved' you as much as the fable dog ever will, throwing himself at enemies with impossible odds of surviving. Although I like Molyneux people need to realize that he puts spins on things, nothing gets reinvented.

Loinhead studios, hmmm? Second paragraph.

You know, playing THE beta so much this weekend has made me realize two things: #1- I freaking love Halo 3's MP AND #2- Halo 3 is just a game and I shouldn't forget about all of the other amazing games coming out that will only add more complexity to my gaming life. So FABLE II, Mass Effect, BioShock, and Too Human (if it lives up) have me more excited than ever. Truth is, for the first 3 months of HALO 3 it'll be tough to pull myself out long enough to play those games. I should just unplug my wireless internet so I'm not tempted to join my friends in H3 when I see them online.
Gamertag: II VALIANT II
Hit me up for some Beta goodness

Loinhead is the fansite that made the video. Loinhead is a fansite about Lionhead.

I dont think anyone is as hyped for Fable as Peter.

Fable 1 pretty much sucked...
Definitely the most OVERHYPED game on the Xbox.
Dale @ May 21st 2007 2:02PM
Come now, how can anything be more over-hyped than Halo and Halo 2?
Triforceowner @ May 21st 2007 3:59PM
I bet it has something to do with fighting your way out of the underworld. That would be interesting in a game. Maybe if your character is noble and good getting back to the real world is easy, because you wind up in heaven and can just ask to go back, but if you are evil you have to fight your way back to the real world out of the underworld. Just an interesting concept I would appreciate in a game to switch up the gameplay mechanics.

I really liked the first Fable, so I'm waiting for this too. :3

You know, Fable 1 was incredible in my book, so I think that Fable 2 will be just as great, but hopefully better.

I think I post this Every time there is a story about Fable 2, but I loved Fable immensely. The only down side was that they obviously left out way to much, but even that was easier to swallow when they released "the lost chronicles" for dirt cheap.
I like Lionhead Studios and I do think that they are one of the developers really trying to try something new when they release their games. Unfortunately for them they Are obviously starting to get a reputation for biting off more than they can chew becAuse of all their ambition.

I really don't know if the first fable was any good or not. I rented it, but didn't make it past the tutorial level which had me running errands to buy my sister a birthday present before I got hopelessly bored.
A couple years later I bought the expanded edition and still couldn't make it beyond the tutorial section before becoming hopelessly bored.
In my opinion calling Fable an RPG demeans every true RPG out there. The entirety of Fable would be like one lame questline in Oblivion (such as the main questline).
I would like to think Fable 2 will be worth playing, but as much as Peter says he has learned his lesson he has yet to put out anything better than OK in his entire career.
That some consider him a gaming god is due to people believing what they wish to believe more than anything else.
My prediction is Fable 2 will suck just like every other game the guy has ever made.

If you ask me, people tend to get polarized about Molyneux games -- see the comments above if you don't believe me. I like them, generally, so I have pretty high hopes for Fable 2. If you didn't like Fable 1 -- if your favorite game is Madden or Forza -- we don't need to know that Fable 2 doesn't excite you.
Aside: how was Black and White 2? What was wrong with it? Thinking of picking up the EA Strategy Collection (20 bucks for a pile of awesome [older] EA RTS-type games) and it comes with B&W2... worth the bother?
gtpunch @ May 22nd 2007 5:18PM
Next big announcement- it's going to be a cat!
Jared @ May 23rd 2007 4:21PM
When is Fable 2 coming out?
Hero @ Aug 6th 2007 5:46AM
I realy thought fable 1 was a great game and I am sure fable 2 will be even better. the inovations that were anounced so far sound interesting and deep and I cant wait to try them out. tho I am Unsure if thier will be hand to hand combat. good hand combat would give it a plus.
