AXE is up to their male-centric marketing antics again offering a free theme and a few gamer pictures of those Bom Chicka Wah Wah girls. Not familiar? Well, the
Bom Chicka Wah Wahs are a musical group of scantily glad women who sing the Bom Chicka Wah Wah song to market AXE (Lynx for our European friends). Actually, it's kind of hard to explain. What we can do is show you our favorite AXE Bom Chicka Wah Wah commercial kindly embedded after the break. Yeah ... kinda interesting isn't it?
And now that we think about it, it's kind of odd that a theme like this could be approved for download when a theme like the
Queenz got canned for being too mature. Maybe a multimillion dollar company backing the content has something to do with it.

Didnt red vs blue come up with the bom chika wah wah thingy, im shure in an episode one of them says it
JamieBoi V2 @ Jun 2nd 2007 4:36PM
@1 I always thought that, but oh well.
Europe most certainly wont get these themes/pics so I dont even know why I'm commenting.
AL7AIR @ Jun 2nd 2007 4:37PM
The Lynx Effect is only available to Xbox Live Members in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia
... because in the rest of Europe it's called AXE as well ;)
CommanderKeen93 @ Jun 2nd 2007 4:46PM
Bow Chica Bow Wow was the RvB episode, it really pissed me off to see AXE blatantly rip RvB off like this.
jan @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:12PM
i for myself consider germany as a part of europe, and the only lynx's i know are a command line browser and that handheld console ... but i used to use AXE as a deodorant
Maxi @ Jun 2nd 2007 4:59PM
Is this out for the UK?
If it is, where is it on marketplace?
KA @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:00PM
Great theme, probably the best I've seen on Xbox Live.
Oh and RvB fans quit your whining, no one cares what a bunch of Halo fan boys created. The rest of the world thinks Axe created the phrase, s go weep in a corner while all the men download this awesome theme/picture pack.
Jack @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:15PM
Yeah, because no one EVER joked about porno guitars before RvB.
You guys probably think Family Guy is 100% original.
Sam @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:17PM
nobody created this "phrase".
Its just an literary emulation of the sound that you would produce if you were trying to sound like a piece of music from a porno movie.
I remember rachael from friends using this "phrase" in like season 2 when referring to some porno movie music.
It wasn't coined by anybody. It just is.
CommanderKeen93 @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:18PM
@ KA
Really, you picked the best place to call out RvB and Halo fanboys, really, great decision.
nojok3 @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:22PM
Girl in video is fine.
Omar @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:30PM
@ CommanderKeen93
I really think it would have been better had I gone to the Bungie forums, I just love making those idiots cry.
Bom Chicka Wah Wah
Tony @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:33PM
@Sam
Exactly. I've known people doing stuff like that since before the anyone even really used the Internet on a normal basis. It's not stolen from RvB in any sense.
callum henderson @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:39PM
@12.
Wow you must live a very fulfilling life.
Omar @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:42PM
@ 14
Oh don't be too impressed, I know a person who does something other than play the crappy Halo 3 Beta in their mom's basement is kind of strange to you.
SeNiLe @ Jun 2nd 2007 5:58PM
There is also a different video on the marketplace you can download but I was not impressed, very cheesy and therefore when the song they sing gets stuck in your head you want it to quit.
ZenGaijin @ Jun 2nd 2007 6:22PM
The RvB guys didn't create "bow chica wow wow" Its been said in numerous sitcoms and shows over the years.
Damn youths
SeNiLe @ Jun 2nd 2007 6:32PM
The "Bom Chicka Wah Wah" has been around since the 70's. See Urban Dictionary for definition:

Jon-Angelo @ Jun 2nd 2007 6:57PM
You guys do know you're arguing about a phrase, and a silly one at that.
Anyway, @11, that girl is fine. Axe products still smell like sh!t to me though, I always laugh when I smell it on another guy and I think to myself, "Yeah right buddy."
ZenGaijin @ Jun 2nd 2007 6:58PM
Rachel friends predates RvB

Yeah, everyone I know thinks "Bom Chicka wah wah" was stolen from somewhere else, but it's pretty obvious. I was surprised to see the "Bom" version being more popular than the other two "Bow" versions, as I believe the "Bow" version is more accurate.
Infact, now that this started, I won't be surprised if some YouTuber decides to make a compliation of pornomatopias to make an entire "song"
Oh, and Omar, uuuum, seriosuly? I mean, this is a bit too easy. Don't you prefer to call people niggers on WoW or something... I mean, it's not like anyone actually reads these... Moron...
Omar @ Jun 2nd 2007 7:57PM
@ 21
Apparently one loser read it.
Grant @ Jun 2nd 2007 8:22PM
it's funny, you can really tell who the youngins are in here if they think this onomatopoeia is based off of some current youtube video or episode of friends.
don't get me wrong, i'm only in my 20's, but i've known the origin of this since my early teens and have used it on various occasions.
anyways, does anyone else see the hilarity in nerds arguing about porn? i feel like the consensus should be printed as scientific fact.
Bennyishere @ Jun 2nd 2007 8:26PM
This reminds me of when some guy was accused of plagiarism on NewGrounds for "stealing" the devil vs angel consciouses from Family Guy, even though that has been used as far as anyone can remember. I've been saying bow chicka bow wow (not bom chicka wah wah) way before I saw this commercial at the theaters here in Norway, where it's also called Axe. I have no idea where I first heard it, however.
MediaSoldier @ Jun 2nd 2007 9:48PM
Where is this on the UK marketplace? cant seem to find it.. :(
ZeroCorpse @ Jun 2nd 2007 10:06PM
Idiots.
"Bom Chicka Wah Wah" was not "invented" by any of you dorks. It is onomatopoeia for the soundtrack to old 70s and 80s pornographic movies. For the literally-challenged of you, onomatopoeia is when you make a word from a sound, in this case the wah-wah guitars that were prevalent in old porn films.
It's not from Halo. It's not from the Axe guys. It's not from anything in the 21st century. It's from fricking THIRTY YEARS AGO, so just shut up, all of you.
Andrew @ Jun 2nd 2007 10:22PM
i agree with #19
i always think man that guy doesn't like to bathe like the rest of us.
Reedux @ Jun 2nd 2007 10:46PM
Young people and their ignorance. I'm sure they find Mad TV cutting edge, too.
And no, RvB did not create "Bow Chicka Bow Wow". It's (kind of) the song for getting down. ;)
MediaSoldier @ Jun 2nd 2007 11:42PM
where can i find these on the marketplace? (uk)
Maxi @ Jun 3rd 2007 5:43AM
Yep still can't find them in the UK, did they never make it?
mattclarkie @ Jun 3rd 2007 6:45AM
Everyone knows Lynx is a better name.
But as far as I am concerned the stuff stinks and isn't an antipersperant so useless.
tony @ Jun 3rd 2007 7:57AM
why is nothing like this ever free in the uk we like cool themes etc to you know!
Lucky @ Jun 4th 2007 4:04PM
Um guys... I'm prety sure "Bow Chica Bow Wow" is a song that plays in alot of sex videos.....
C____C
Sure RvB is the 1st I ever saw "Coin it" but it's not nessarly there thing I'm prety sure.
Justin U @ Jun 3rd 2007 10:50AM
Bow chicka wow wow didn't start with Red Vs. Blue, it didn't really start anywhere. Its just that stripper music or porn music often had something that sounded adaptedly like that.
Bakonon @ Jun 3rd 2007 11:49AM
It's "scantily clad," not "scantily glad."
chenry @ Jun 3rd 2007 4:30PM
... No one invented the phrase. It's international sound of porno music.
Project Ekim @ Jun 3rd 2007 7:13PM
i love that commercial
Project Ekim @ Jun 3rd 2007 7:14PM
love the theme too
Clinton @ Jun 3rd 2007 8:06PM
When the girl reinserted those cotton swabs, I damn near ran out and bought some AXE.
Well done, ad wizards, well done.
Alex Cormier @ Jun 4th 2007 1:21PM
Thats stupid. No one in there right minds would get that.
Terrence Meekins @ Jun 4th 2007 11:05AM
That commercial couldn't be down on TV in the U.S. Its rated NC-17.
Hani @ Jun 4th 2007 11:41AM
is it just me or is this theme not available in Canada?
pbichler @ Jun 4th 2007 7:25PM
It appears the phrase was part of pop culture long before RvB (on friends, King of Queens, every time someone says porn the song starts in your head...) In any case, the video is nice (axebcww.com)

Yes, that whole bit is ancient.
This whole pile of comments reminds me of this one time about 15 years or so ago. I was at a friend's house. His little sister (around 13 yrs old) was hanging around. This was around the time that Kylie Minogue's remake of "Locomotion" was big.
While at my friend's place, the original "Locomotion" came on the radio. The little sister blurts out:
"I *hate* it when they remake songs!!!"
Moral of the story: The first time YOU hear it ISN'T necessarily the first time it's been done. :P
p-diddy @ Jun 26th 2007 3:56PM
OK, I'm old - the pop culture reference comes from a stand up comedian's routine from the 90's that used to run on MTV's half hour comedy hour. Yes, you could say that it was an onomatopoeia, but no one used it until the comedian did the bit. Part of his routine was "you know when you hear that music someone's getting some - like when the gardner is in the kitchen and the housewife comes in... bow chicka wah wah - you know he could have drank from the hose."
Too bad that guy never got credit for the bit.
