Major Xbox announcement coming tomorrow? [update 2]

Word on the street (that is, Gamertag Radio) is that a major Xbox announcement is dropping tomorrow, set to coincide with the final round of the Pac-Man World Championship. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg dropped the hint via an instant message session with GTR's Godfree. What the hell is this announcement about? We have no idea, only Greenberg's cryptic words, "we have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history."

What in the world could it possibly be? Does it have anything to do with Ignition, Microsoft's new music initiative? We've contacted Microsoft to see if we can dig anything up, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

In the meantime, start speculating! What could it be?

Update 1: We've learned from Aaron Greenberg that the announcement will take place tomorrow between 12:30 and 1:30 pm Eastern Time. And, before this gets out of hand, we've heard rumblings that this announcement won't be huge, but that it should be relatively cool nonetheless.

o man im pumped i love things that will go down in history maby IPTV release date or xbox live will be free or the new xbox or emotives mind thing that is coming out next year. wow im ranting .O how bout an xbox portable. Theres so many things i cant wait i hope its true.

I hope it's not something small being exagerated like how bungie said equipment will be the best revolution in gaming ever and it turned out just to be a cool feature that had been done before in other ways.

Keep it in perspective.. This is Aaron "foot-in-mouth" greenberg and has on more than one ocassion said things that didn't always turn out to be even remotely spectacular. This is his job he is PR.

If it has anything to do with IPTV, Ignition or any Video Marketplace related thing then it does nothing for Video Games. This needs to be directly related to gaming if it's going to "go down in video game history". If this is as big as he implies, why do it at a Pac Man Championship and not at something like Mini-E3 right around the corner.

I don't think any of the above suggestions qualify as something that will 'go down in history', in fact I really cannot think of anything that will justify that title. 'Going down in history' suggests a new technology e.g. Joypad invention, CD-rom invention etc.

...It probably will be a price drop, or something free.

I think that tommarow they will announce that they are going to make full retail games avalible for download or being able to run vista via the 360 like having your 360 be a pc

It really doesn't take much to be video game history, so I don't know why everyone is blowing this way out of proportion.
My guess would be something to do with Namco or Midway, and a partnership being made. Or perhaps it's Microsoft sponsoring a video game championship, and maybe it will be broadcast on Xbox live marketplace? Any of those would constitute Video Game History... as lame as it may be.

yeah, if Nintendo worked out some sort of conjoined deal with Microsoft, that would be historical. However extremely unlikely. Other unlikely yet huge possibilities:

-Microsoft will announce some sort of portable gaming unit that will pack every portable technology into one.

-The announcement of "Surface" has got something to do with this.

-Microsoft buys Japan and forces 360's into people's homes. :)

..Or..the United States Marines incorporate SPARTAN MJOLNIR (sp) armor for ground troops.

I would guess they bought capcom, mgs4 comes to the 360, new game, gta iv exclusive, or halo 3 announcement

I dought it would be revolutionary in video game history. If it is going to be huge it would be like a portable xbox, new xbox developement, new controller, or that motion capturing thing they put a patent on

Maybe is an announcement due with Bill Gates recent statements of the "non Wii" interface they are working on... But most probably is just a pacman tournament on live.

My guess is it has to do with Namco or Midway in some way since both are directly related to Pac-Man. A buyout of either would be historic, but not really a big deal to gaming.

On the other hand, it could be something simple like signing up Namco's Tekken as a 360 exclusive.

IPTV would be video game history since you can do it from your video game console.

Of course this is all PR speak like razer said, so it could just be something small. I'll definitely be looking for the news either way.
