How-to: make custom Forza 2 paint jobs

If you listened to the latest episode of the Xbox 360 Fancast (and you really should have), then you'll know that the copious amounts of Forza 2 custom paint jobs hitting the net both amazed and befuddled us. They amazed us, obviously, because the level of work and detail that goes into these cars is amazing. They befuddled us because we had no idea how they were created. Lo and behold, we have discovered a handy how-to on the Forza 2 message boards. Posted by one Neubourn, the tutorial shows you step by step how the many shapes available in the Forza 2 livery editor can be transformed into incredibly detailed works of art. Yup, every custom paint job is merely a collection of shapes in different configurations and transparencies. It seems damned near unbelievable when you view the initial rough outline of Batman's Harley Quinn (see "Before" above), but after some extensive manipulation (and plenty of time we're sure) she came to life as clear as crystal. Daaaamn! That looks like mad work to do just for paint job on a video game car! You spend more time painting then actually playing the game. I'll pass!

You'll pass until some dude you're racing with shows up with a sick ride, and you're driving around in a factory orange P.O.S. Then having a flashy ride doesn't seem quite so silly.

Well just go on the auction house and buy that sick car from him, that what is is for.

Or get a friend to make a paint job for you than he can gift it to you, you copy the paint job on to the same car type in your garage and give the car back. This is just of the top of my head so I can't say if this will work.

But I'm with chester just let my drive.

What I really don't like is that you can't copy your paint jobs on to other brand ore type car. I know it has to do with scaling but you can adjust it....

@ #3 - And? Is it going to make him drive better/faster? Or are there "hot chicks" to impress in the game? As far as I know there's no REAL audience.
You do realize it's just a game, right? Now if we were talking about real cars, that's different.
Still, there's nothing wrong with customizing your virtual ride...

I think thats pretty cool - i dont think it matters that 'its only a game' and it takes a long time. If forza held a competition for 'design a paintjob and we'll put it in the game' a shit load of people would enter, its like that except everyones a winner!

I think I'll do a Simpsons one, I haven't seen any on the internet yet and their shape is pretty simple.
Then I'll more complex stuff

@#4: You can actually apply designs to other cars. You just select them all using advanced commands or "select all layers", hit A, and choose "New Vinyl Group." This lets you save the vinyls you have selected as a single group and put it on any other cars that you want. You can even adjust the size of the group as a whole, pretty cool.

Fair play that guy has done an excellent job on that car, the tutorial is easy to understand too.

I didn't enjoy the demo at all, but if it had been a demo of the car graphic design then I'd probably still be on it now!! :o(

£40-£50 is a bit too much just for the pleasure of painting cars tho!
