Halo animated series rumor is result of transcription error

Update: Joystiq has learned directly from GameSpy that the "animated series" comment was the result of a transcription error. The article in question has been appended with an editorial note.

Something strange is going on at GameSpy. Speaking about the imminent arrival of Halo 3 as well as the future of the franchise, Shane Kim, head of Microsoft Game Studios, had some interesting words regarding Peter Jackson's ongoing project with Bungie. When asked about Bungie's next project following Halo 3, Kim mentioned Jackson's project, stating, "they have the collaboration with Peter Jackson on the animated series." This lead many, including our own Joystiq, to conclude that Jackson's secret interactive project could be an animated series.

It doesn't end there though, the article has since be amended and the word "animated" has been replaced with "interactive." It's worth noting that Kim specifically calls it an interactive series in a response to an earlier question (on page 1 of the interview). The big question is, was this a slip of the tongue by Kim (wouldn't be the first time), or a slip of the finger by a GameSpy transcriber? Joystiq has contacted Microsoft for comment, we'll let you know what they hear.

I'll be the first (apparently) to say this COULD work. I'd love to see an animated Master Chief take down a cartoon brute. It'd play well into the bright colors of the Halo world and the purples!

Hell, it sounds better than that huge disappointment Lucasfilm just recently dropped on us with that crappy Clone Wars CGI poster!
The characters look like placeholders in a CGI storyboarding project.

Wait, who said animated would have to be 2D? Shrek was animated. The Halo Wars vid (pre-rendered) was animated.. :/

i put motion pictures in two different categories: films and movies. as hard as it is to say, the covenant was a guilty pleasure for me ... like hollow man. definitely not a great film, but an entertaining movie. and no, i didnt mistakenly rent it as a halo fanboy ... i just have a blockbuster/netflix type thing and ive seen everything else so i went surfing for movies in the middle.

but anyway, the real reason i wanted to post here is to say that i really dislike the halo3 mancannon graphic. masterchief looks like a Thai ladyboy in that pic. very busty.

oh yeah ... and wasn't peter jackson's name on that other pwntzergish 360 title ... what was it ? oh yeah ... "peter jackson's king kong video game version of moving picure films by same title" -- does that kinda shit even get released overseas?

peter jackson is good, he's better than me ...

but he's batting .001 in the games industry

(if i knew how to make a 360 game that cost 20 bucks and had 1 achievement worth 1000 points "start single player game ... achievement unlocked ... 1000g" ... i bet i could sell a lot of copies)
