Yes, you read the headline correctly, because both
Rainbow Six Vegas Players Packs are going to be free for download.
Major Nelson just informed us that the Black Edition was
pulled from the Marketplace earlier this week, because Ubisoft didn't want the content to cost 800 Microsoft points ... they wanted it to be free! The
Black Edition is now available on the Marketplace and is free for download, so go get it! But wait, did you pay for the content before the Black Edition was pulled? Not to worry, because Microsoft will be reimbursing those who paid for the Black Edition within' the next ten weeks. Sweet, isn't it?
But that's not all the good news. As a thank you to the
Rainbow Six community, Ubisoft decided to make the
Red Edition Player Pack a free download starting next Friday, July 6th. That's a 800 Microsoft point value! But sorry for those who already purchased the Red Edition, because no reimbursements will be made for the content. Ubisoft rocks ... they rock hard!

Yes, Ubisoft rocks. But as a gamer who is only mildly interested in online multiplayer, they will rock even harder when they announce the next iteration of R6 so that I can finally get my campaign fix. I would have thought that we would have at least heard something by now, but nada.
CHINESE BABON @ Jun 30th 2007 1:02AM
I need something cleared up, is the Red pack free on the 6th or on and after the 6th? I will be gone the 2nd through the 8th.
Visionz08 @ Jun 30th 2007 1:07AM
Whooo!!!
Downloading Black as I type!
I knew it was worth waiting. Now I can't wait till the 6th...(: (:
YoRone22 @ Jun 30th 2007 1:08AM
CHINESE BABON, it'll be free after the 6th. The 6th is just when it starts to be free.
ccc @ Jun 30th 2007 1:10AM
This is probably The koolest thing I have seen a company do in the Market place. The only thing that comes close to this is Aegis Wing for free.
UBI Soft U have earned total and complete respect from me. Now if only Redoctaine would learn and do something like this, or at the very least reduce the cost of the songs downloadable 2 300 points instead of 500.
CHINESE BABON @ Jun 30th 2007 1:21AM
Thanks YoRone22, Id be pissed if i couldnt download the Red Pack, and thanks Ubi.
Josh @ Jun 30th 2007 1:33AM
Well Ubi is awesome for doing this but I do not see the black edition on the marketplace. Is anyone else having the same issue?
Tony @ Jun 30th 2007 1:40AM
Why the heck would reimbursement take up to 10 weeks?
Brian @ Jun 30th 2007 2:02AM
@7 It's in the Featured Downloads section.
SnipeShow67 @ Jun 30th 2007 2:11AM
Doesn't appear on mine. Maybe it's taking a while in Canada.
drdre74 @ Jun 30th 2007 3:10AM
I figured they would do this since the PS3 just got these for free. I'm glad since i did by the first pack when it came out. This is great.
yokken @ Jun 30th 2007 3:43AM
Ubisoft has just gone up a few notches in my book. :)
Maxi @ Jun 30th 2007 5:24AM
Not here in the UK...
gibber9583 @ Jun 30th 2007 7:23AM
wow.....gonna pop in the disc right now!!!
JrezIN @ Jun 30th 2007 7:34AM
Now it's just clear that Epic Games isn't at the same level of costumer respect anymore...
evol jake @ Jun 30th 2007 7:40AM
drdre74 (11) is right. This is all because this content is included in the PS3 version, and M$'s policy is that we wouldn't ever have to pay for content that was free elsewhere. All these "UBI Rocks!" comments are funny--they got caught trying to charge for free content. They already got away with it for the Red Pack.
Kritz @ Jun 30th 2007 7:58AM
You mean how like Bethesda made all their content free on the market place because PC users can download it without cost already?
Haha oh wait.
zourskittles @ Jun 30th 2007 11:13AM
@8 Remember, ten weeks is just the maximum of what it could take. Ubisoft would have to get Microsofts permission to look at peoples records to see who download what and when. They would most likely than have to give Microsoft the info so they can go to peoples accounts and refund them. It may even take just a few days for all we know. But thats just my thoughts on it so don't take my word for it, its just usually how it goes.
MaXKiLLz @ Jun 30th 2007 11:13AM
Can't complain about the glitches if it's free. Now how about some refund love for Red buyers.
drgoon76 @ Jun 30th 2007 11:24AM
wow what a surprise that a comp makes content for free.. I don't really have anything to make me wanna play all summer. This might be it!! I have been holding on to the game for the single player, but I m left speechless to the generosity of ubisoft.... I think I know what I going to download now... hmmm I wonder if I remember how to shoot..?
Stan @ Jun 30th 2007 11:41AM
That's a really great move. Somewhat restores my faith in the potential of Marketplace.
Now Bethesda needs to make Knights of the Nine free since it's on the PS3 version.
Tony @ Jun 30th 2007 11:52AM
@17 - Like what exactly? Every official add-on for Oblivion costs money for the PC as well.
The only things that are free are user-made.
Johnathon @ Jun 30th 2007 12:18PM
what i dont understand is why was ubisoft able to give out these packs for free so soon after release, but we have to wait until september for the hidden fronts map to get the same deal.
did i...miss something?
Tony @ Jun 30th 2007 12:43PM
Different companies call for different situations... The main thing is that these were supposed to be free in the first place, whereas MS never had any intention of the GoW maps to be free right away.
Johnathon @ Jun 30th 2007 1:14PM
O ok, thanks for the clear up Tony. I had some sort of inkling that Epic wanted to make this free but MS intervened.
Barry @ Jun 30th 2007 2:28PM
AWESOME!
I have been enjoying Rainbow Six: Vegas on my Xbox 360 ever since November of 2006! I decided to get the Red Edition Expansion in April, and it helped get my attention again with a couple of extra modes and it made it so I have been playing Rainbows Six: Vegas again for the last couple of months. Now I will be getting the Black Edition expansion for free because of the policy Microsoft has where people don't pay extra for stuff that is included in another version of the game. Since the PS3 version came out SEVEN MONTHS later than the Xbox 360 version, the maps from the Xbox 360 expansion were included in it...so that means Xbox 360 owners now get thos Expansions for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we Xbox 360 owners are STILL the ones with the BEST version of Rainbow Six: Vegas, because only the Xbox 360 version uses the Face Mapping technology where you take pictures of yourself and put them on the body of your character!
And only the Xbox 360 version rumbles and shakes! Without rumbling and shaking, it feels fake.
This really is an awesome deal!
teddings @ Jun 30th 2007 4:41PM
@JayXXX
Then why did you pay for it?
anthony @ Jun 30th 2007 4:50PM
The reason why these maps are free and the hidden fronts map pack from gow were not is because the black edition is free on the ps3. I guess microsoft dont want to look bad.
BTex @ Jun 30th 2007 7:54PM
This will hopefully change the current system of ms wanting a piece of everything. (don't they have enough?, they're richest company in the world for gods sakes)
I'd be pissed if I bought the red pack. lol
Mr BoiomStick XL @ Jul 1st 2007 1:18PM
We need to see this more often!! Not to sound like a cheap-O here but this is a really nice way to thank the gamers who contiune to support LIVE and the games on it!!!
Hats off to Ubi-Soft, way to go!!!
Dr Dave @ Jul 2nd 2007 10:48AM
Well free is good but I don't think I'll buy any more downloadable content because I paid for the red pack and now it's free. Love it, but all people how paid for it should get a refund as well and I hope that this does not become common place. The people who pay early get burned. Don't use the excuse that it would be to hard to refund all people who bought the red pack all it takes is some one to check the list of gamertags that have downloaded it and give them a credit. So get to it ubisoft and microsoft you guy's got some work to do...
houkah @ Jul 2nd 2007 1:42PM
@ Btex, i bought the red pack and i'm pissed. I thought it would be worth it w/ the 2 new game modes and maps... played the new game modes 2 or 3 times then wasn't able to find games. Everyone was still playing A&D calypso casino. Half my friends bought red pack and half didn't so we couldn't play with eachother either. Not to mention the maps on the (free) black pack are far superior to any of the red pack maps. I don't think these packs being free has anything to do w/ good will from Ubi.
Caleb @ Jul 11th 2007 11:46AM
I think I have a theory about why ubi might have refunded the money. First they put the black pack online, and charged for it. Then with that money, it funded a portion of the red pack being developed, although I'm sure they were in production simultaneously. Anyhow, next they continue to make money from rainbow six vegas owners from the black pack, and also new customers who bought the game because they learned there was free maps for download. They are making such a profit on rainbow six vegas that they can afford to refund everyone's money. In fact, I see it as you are essentially an ubisoft investor, lending them money for projects, and you get your money back too. Although, no interest, which is a small price to pay. Hopefully this will give ubi the chance to blow our minds with the next installment of rainbow six.
JayXXX @ Jul 19th 2007 8:03PM
Well, That's Mighty White of ya' Ubi..I Download the Black free..'Thanks", then figure well, might as well dump 800ms on the Red....Now that's free a week later, ya' say...& lucky me no refund...Eat fat one Ubi & MS.. It's bad enough I gotta I have to stare @ your marketing posters all day in Casino..This crap should have been free day 1!!!!!!!!!
H @ Jul 24th 2007 1:09PM
