Gears of War PC montage video leaked [update 1]
Looks like someone made a boo boo. Those silly cats over at GameVideos.com posted a video entitled "Gears of War PC 'E3 Action' montage" and quickly pulled it. But fret not fanboys, because Quellex saved the video and posted it on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. But before you take a look at this leaked Gears PC montage be warned that it may make your inner fanboy scream with anger and disgust. Why? Because the video showcases what looks to be not only new multiplayer maps and additional campaign missions, but it also showcases a boss battle with a Brumak. Yup, that same Brumak that didn't make it into the 360 version of Gears. Hopefully there's more to this story that'll come out of E3, something along the lines of all the new additional PC content being available for free to Xbox 360 owners. Otherwise we shun you Epic and your PC content ... we want to fight Brumaks too!Update 1: We've removed our link to the YouTube video at GameVideos.com's request, but now that the

I think Epic will hook us up with the free stuff. Unless Microsoft says no again.
SinFULMX @ Jul 6th 2007 8:48PM
I want that content!!!!!
Any idea if it´ll be on the xbox 360?
new maps and new chapters, i´ll even pay 600 ms points like on G.R.A.W.´s Chapter 2
COV3RT SN1P3R @ Jul 6th 2007 8:58PM
This extra content better come out on 360. It should also be free because I'm sure the PC version will not cost much more.
derek @ Jul 6th 2007 8:58PM
i guarantee that it's episodic content for the 360 and will be 600-800 MS points for the new missions and maps.
Miguel @ Jul 6th 2007 9:04PM
Gears of War for the pc has already been confirmed? Let me guess.. Vista only. Oh well..
Project Ekim @ Jul 6th 2007 9:07PM
I have vista and love it and i might just pick this up if the 360 doesnot get the content i wonder how achievements work if u have them on the console
Derka @ Jul 6th 2007 9:08PM
Gears has already met the 1250 gamerscore points. There's no way they could add achivements now.
Master Devwi @ Jul 6th 2007 9:58PM
Notice the achievement notification at 00:50? That's not the Xbox 360's style achievement notification, that is the Games for Windows LIVE achievement notification. That must mean GOW PC is GFW LIVE-enabled! Also, maybe they'll make the extra content into DLC for GOW 360.
razer @ Jul 6th 2007 9:41PM
Hrm.. I have mixed feelings about this.
This just screams "one less reason to buy a 360". The 360 has NO exclusives anymore and why would I want to risk having an unreliable hardware Xbox 360 when I can just bite the bullet and buy a good video card and Vista and get the same experience as the console provides.
I just get the feeling MS is going to drop the whole console thing and just go to pure PC gaming next gen. You know when I buy a PS3 and play Lair, MGS 4 or Uncharted Drakes Fortune I know that I am getting a unique experience and I feel better spending the money. I understand there is a huge time gap between these but still that doesn't make me feel any better. I guess I just need to accept all MS first party/published games are going to the PC.. Mass Effect will be next mark my words..
The PS3 fanboys are going to have a field day with this.. The 360 does not have exclusives it only has timed releases and every indication is the PC will have the better experience. Yes, we might get this extra content but we will pay for it. If you add all the extra multiplayer maps the price is already over $70 dollars for the 360 version. I bet the PC version will be $50 and include all that plus these new maps and campaign. We will then be charged another $10 for each bringing the Xbox 360 version close to double the cost of what the PC will get. I know it's speculation but I see a very disturbing trend here. PC gaming is starting to sound appealing to me, why go through the trouble that is the 360 at the same time being raped with DLC. And I bet I can play the PC version multiplayer for free.
Sean @ Jul 6th 2007 9:53PM
@razer - If it's a games for windows title, you require a gamertag and subscription to play much like shadowrun, so no, it will not be free :P
A little annoying exclusives are eventually hitting the PC, but at the same time the game is out around a year to two years later and only happens with the odd few titles. And I would hold on to that MGS comment, with all MGS games since MGS2 only being timed exclusives on consoles.
Tony @ Jul 6th 2007 9:57PM
I don't really understand how the same games being available on PC even affects anything. So go ahead and buy the PC version. What's really the difference? Certainly a Vista capable PC (with enough RAM to properly run games on top of it), a great video card and Vista itself add up to more than $300.
Considering MS is likely involved with the PC version, I'd say it's a good bet they're going to force some sort of Live functionality into it to begin with.
I don't see why MS would be interested in being PC only anyway. It makes little sense. They get less in the way of licensing fees, they give up a level of control like they have on Live and a lot of games simply sell better on consoles than PCs. I don't think anything is going to change there.
DLC is unfortunately here to stay and I think people can expect it to pop up more and more often even on PCs. Some companies will obviously stay free, but Bethesda, for example, charged the same money for the same DLC on PCs.
It's not as if every single Xbox 360 exclusive game is PC only to begin with, but regardless PCs are NOT consoles and I doubt many PS3 owners are going to bother to compare them.
Something I think is worth noting is that MS's Live policy is now that if another platform has content for free, it has to be free on the 360. If it appears at all, by those standards it shouldn't cost anything.
Big Ed @ Jul 6th 2007 9:59PM
Come now razer, the Xbox is still the ONLY CONSOLE to have GOW. I would define that as exlusive. There's no reason to waste tons money on PC upragrades in order to buy the same games a console has for a cheaper price. Don't wory about the Sony fanboys either, they have already lost several "exlusive" titles to the xbox and VF will have improved graphics and online play.
John @ Jul 6th 2007 10:06PM
@razer - Exactly...
By the time Halo 3, Bioshock, and Alan Wake appear on P.C., hopefully, a gaming P.C. that can play them won't cost an arm and I leg.
I would also be quick to scoop up Gears of War and Mass Effect if they happen to be released on the P.C.
John @ Jul 6th 2007 10:07PM
EDIT: "...an arm and a leg."
D dogg @ Jul 6th 2007 10:14PM
First off, anyone notice how sillllllky smooth that framerate was? Man, it is going to shine on the PC. The only issue I see (and a MAIN reason why I bought a 360) is a rig capable of running this is going to set you back at LEAST $1200 brand new.... compare that to $400.
Anyway, I'm a bit concerned by how much different the PC version is... even worthy of being GoW 2 because I didn't notice many locations similar to the 360.
I would like to point out though, I bet the map pack being sold on Marketplace now will be free on the PC version (like C&C 3: Tiberium Wars) and this is really starting to piss me off as a consumer (and SUPPORTER of the 360 with hard earned cash) that PC players save $10 and get MORE content.
razer @ Jul 6th 2007 10:19PM
Great comments from everyone. You all make some great points. I guess I'm a little over-protective of my 360 "exclusives". =)
However I do think Games for Windows is MS's attempt at controlling the PC gaming market more. Once the Marketplace launches on the PC side you will see the same model that is applied to the 360 on PC. MS is a software company and if I were them I would love to be able to tap the already huge install base of the PC and control it like the 360(with all the same revenue making models in place) and not have to worry or spend money on dedicated hardware. Just try Halo 2 and see how it "locks" you into connecting to Live for multiplayer.. Heck it's even got the same interface as the 360.

all that confirms is that it's going to use Game For Windows Live. It doesn't mean that just because the only other two were Vista.
Although, if it does use DirectX 10, it's going to be Vista.
I believe it will be Vista Only, but that's because Vista is going to be the Standard in Windows Operating Systems in a year or less. It doesn't make sense to restrict the software so that it can accommodate a soon-to-be out dated OS. Vista is better than people say. People need to use it instead of reading about it online.

DA360 @ Jul 7th 2007 12:30AM
Well, the video shows some tall-tell signs that's its being ran on a PC, the increased frame rate is a major one, the slightly improved AA is another (more than likely their probity running it on a PC with a GeForce 8800 GTX), and the Games For Windows Achievement pop up was another huge one. On the Frame rate and AA improvement aspect, despite the Xbox 360 is still a impressive machine for gaming, PC gaming always has had the graphical edge due to non-stop evolution of graphics cards on PC.
Then again, this is Epic where talking about here, they always have been and always will be a PC developer and just about every game they make ends up on PC at some time in its life. So I am sure it coming out on PC was more of Epic's choice than Microsoft's.
Will this hurt the 360? No. More than likely this might come out at the end of the year, when we already played though the game and were prepping up to play Halo 3 and many other games. Is it a reason not to own a Xbox 360? No, there's allot of people who don't want to get an expensive beefy video card, upgrade to Vista (if it needs it), deal with drivers, OS installs, and whatnot (though I have a rather capable gaming PC with a GeForce 8800 GTS and both Vista and XP x64). Actually, this might HELP the Xbox 360 since some people might want to buy the game on 360 to play against their buddies that have the PC version (since I KNOW they WILL add mutiplatform play to this, they didn't to Halo 2 since it was a original Xbox game using the old version of Live).
So I wouldn't worry about this one bit. Many original Xbox games when to PC (like Fable, Jade Empire, Halo 1 and 2) but it didn't hurt the Xbox one bit.
Zeus the God @ Jul 7th 2007 2:41AM
To whoever said "the PC version won't cost much more," it won't cost more. As a matter of fact, it will cost less. PC games are cheaper than console games. Thats how over a period of time, a PC can be a better buy than a console for the money.
OmegaIXIUltima @ Jul 7th 2007 3:23AM

They done it with halo 1 why?
When halo 2 came out everyone who had got halo 1 on the pc as well as the xbox where lookin to play halo 2 .... means they Sell more systems
Gears of war on the 360 ..well its comin to an end .,,,,,, So port it to the pc ... The PC is part of M$ family as well =)
kabes @ Jul 7th 2007 7:43AM
Dumb move by Microsoft. Gears was actually making some PC gamers get a 360...now they can go dump their 360 and get it on PC, with extra content to boot. That new stuff better be DLC... Gears was supposed to be an xbox franchise....not this vista-only crap.

Awesome! Vista-only I assume? Don't care since I own Vista, but nor do I think I'll get this.
Joe Smith @ Jul 7th 2007 8:37PM
This video looks awesome! But this isn't a remixed version of the Xbox 360 game that ends up being classified as "Gears of War" for PC, because this video clearly shows new bosses, not just new maps. This could potentially be downloadable extra stuff for Xbox 360, which is also included in a future PC version. But this could also be Gears of War 2 for Xbox 360.
Epic said all along that there would eventually be a PC version of Gears of War. It was that way with Halo from Bungie, and Halo 2 from Bungie.
But I would NEVER trade the last YEARS worth of FUN that I had with Gears of War on the Xbox 360!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The awesome thing about having the Xbox 360 is it gives you the ability to enjoy a game like Halo 2 for three years, then get a new PC and enjoy the game again with better graphics on the PC once it is released.
Epic said we won't see a PC version of Gears of War anytime soon, but when/if we do, we can be very sure that it will be like Shadowrun where we can play PC vs Xbox 360 over the Xbox Live Gold service.
Windows Live now has Achievements similar to Xbox Live. In fact, Halo 2 on Windows Vista actually has Achievements that go directly to your Xbox Live Gamertag for the Xbox 360! So if you are interested in using Halo 2 to boost your Xbox Live Gamerscore, then use Halo 2 on Windows Vista to do it!
Games from First-Party and Second-Party companies that produce software published by Microsoft Game Studios will always end up being released for the Xbox 360 LOOOOONG before they are released on PC!!!!!!
That alone makes the Xbox 360 worth the price of admission! Xbox 360 already has BY FAR the BEST software library of any next-generation game system.
When amazing games like Mass Effect, Gears of War, Crackdown, Lost Planet, and Halo 3 are released on Xbox 360 there is NOBODY who is going to stop me from being the first pers in line to buy those games for the Xbox 360!!!
I want to play those games AS SOON AS THEY ARE RELEASED!!!!!
I'm not going to sit there for years listening to my friends who have an Xbox 360 tell me how awesome all those games are saying, "One day those games will/might-be released for my PC."
If I were to do something like that, I would be as stupid as all of the Playstation 3 owners who waited seven months for an inferior version of Rainbow Six: Vegas that has less polygon detail in the characters faces, doesn't include rumble in the controller, doesn't include Face-Mapping, and doesn't play as good as the Xbox 360 version, even though it costs $20 more!
The Xbox 360 has sold 8 million more systems than the Playstation 3 because the Xbox 360 is a LOT better! The Wii has sold 5 million more systems than the Playstation 3, because the Wii is a LOT better in terms of providing gameplay experiences that are fun!
If you look at games being released on the PC, the majority of games being released are almost always released simultaneously for Xbox 360 and PC, but they have no plans for release on Playstation 3.
Look at examples of games like Command & Conquer 3, Two Worlds, Overlord, Bioshock, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Dungeon Hero, and many others!
Xbox 360 is the only console system where those games can be played.
And look how all the third-party games released on both consoles always end up better with higher ratings on the Xbox 360. Look how this years three football games will run at 60 frames per second with resolution upconverted to 1080p on the Xbox 360, but the Playstation 3 versions of this years football games will only run at 30 frames per second.
The reason for that is because the PS3 generic GPU from Nvidia is week compared to the custom Xbox 360 GPU from ATI. The Xbox 360 can display 500,000,000 polygons per second, compared to only 275,000,000, polygons per second on the PS3. It is said that this years football games are a PERFECT example of that ATI advantage, because the Xbox 360 will LITERALLY be displaying TWICE as many polygons, since the framerate will be twice as high.
Xbox 360 has the best software library right now, and it has the best features right now--both online and offline.
That won't change anytime within the next few years! And that is why the Xbox 360 is the next-generation leader!
Dan @ Jul 7th 2007 8:53PM
There is no way this is GoW for PC. The movement is far too rigid to be mouselook, and there is a lot of movement that is straight forward with no deviation of the direction facing, which you just don't see in PC gaming. As there is already the 1250 achievement points for GoW I'd assume that this would be the sequal that could be announced next week.
Tallfriend17 @ Jul 7th 2007 11:07PM
I was talking to a friend the other day about how I was building my new computer in preparation for games like this coming to the PC. He said "I have a 360 lol". I then listed the games that I was waiting for on PC, including star of the day, GoW. Now as ironic and seemingly hard to believe this story has gotten, my friend states that Gears of War on PC wouldnt be as fun because it was made for consoles. I retorted by saying, it was made by Epic. They started out on the PC with Unreal 1. IF ANYONE is to port it to PC with all of its gory glory, its them. Needless to say, im glad this video was leaked. Also, dont complain about buying a 360 and buying GoW and not getting the same content. Its just like buying a computer, if you buy too early, youll end up not getting all that there is too offer at a higher price than what is offered later on. Epic started out on PC, and for sticking by their side on PC, I welcome the free extra content.
Bauer22 @ Jul 7th 2007 10:40PM
I think that GoW PC will come out at the same time the new maps become free. I think MS has a rule that games cannot have maps or other material that cost money for the 360 for free on another system.
ccc @ Jul 7th 2007 10:41PM
Sweet,
Yea this is 4 sure going to be downloadable content on 360. But how much? Well, how much new shit is there? Unknown at this time. Could be as much as the Shivering Isles Expansion. Remember when the rumor was going around about a gears 2 announcment at e3? And how quickly that was shot down? Epic said they were still working on the first 1. Thats this stuff 4 sure. New maps, new campaign, new achievments for all this stuff hopefully, Maybe some new multi player characters to choose from. Perhaps some new weapons, and it will be kool to be able to play against pc players in this game. I dont even know what the hell is in this for sure but Im sold. Epic, how much, and when can I get it? I hope to have the answers to this day 1 of E3. Since the last map pack is gonna be free in September, It be a good bet thats when this will hit the Marketplace.
Woo Woo! GOW FTW!
ccc @ Jul 8th 2007 4:10AM
@39
I dont see the pc players having an advantage versing 360 users at all. Using a mouse/KB wont really do anything for the gameplay. Also, Gears is most likly comming out on pc because MS wants it to. Im sure the pc players are going to have the opertunity to play 360 users, which is probably 1 of the key points of this happening for the pc. Which also will mean U'll have to have an xbox live gold membership and Vistas. When it comes to the extra content... Ofcoarse its gonna come to the 360. Free or not I dont know, I dont care either way. Seeing Gears on the Pc totally reminds me of seeing Halo on PC, Its something that basically belongs to Microsoft being thrown into pc land so they can enjoy it and, nowa days play with/against 360 gamers while getting the pc guys to commit 2 xbox live without buying a console and getting thier new OS alittle help in becomming a step closer to the Norm. Basically, I dont look at GOW releasing on the pc as another platform, but more like it comming out for another fellow Microsoft product. U will need MS OS to play it. U will never see Gears on a Sony or Nintendo product just like Halo. Unreal on the other hand is a Whore game that needs to pick a platform and stick with it.
MouseR @ Jul 11th 2008 8:18PM
@Sean
No, online gaming will be free. The only reason you would pay is if you wanted to play against the xbox kiddies on live.
The PC vs PC aspect will be free, as MS has stated when they had started this "Windows Live" gimmick.

I simply can’t believe panties in a knot pussies that whine about games going to the PC and the 360 not being worth anything.????? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???
GOW good game, great game on the 360 but it got old FAST. Bringing it to the PC…...a year later……..yawn. Also unless you have a bad ass PC….8800 GTX, E6600 +….etc it won’t run as well either…..look at Halo 1 and Rainbow Six Vegas as proof. Even then, do you want to fuck with drivers problems, places to download massive patches that are fast and free, instead of paying for gamespy or one of those others?
Hey if you want to sell you 360 for say $50 to put towards you $400 video card let me know.
