Recently, the guys over at the
7th Columnist did some digging and stumbled upon what looks to be a render of the rumored
Halo 3 Brute Excavator weapon. If you aren't familiar, mention of the Excavator was discovered while digging through the
Halo 3 beta code a while back, but Bungie has been quite mum about any details or acknowledgment of its existence. The Excavator render could easily be a fake, but it looks eerily similar to a weapon that was held by a Brute in the
"Et Tu, Brute?" ViDoc. It's up in the air and for you to decide if this is our Excavator rendered in the flesh or if it's all hogwash. Now we just want to know if we'll be able to wield a Gravity Hammer come September.

I say fake, I'd rather Bungie test the strength of weapons in the multiplayer beta first and then adjust them, makes the game more polished.

You should put up a side by side shot of the render and the weapon in the ViDoc...see if they match up.

If it comes true it looks like the graivty gun in half life that would be cool graivity gun halo style

The clues seem to add up to a pretty compelling story...

True but at the same time... They have to leave SOMETHING hidden and secret. Don't forget that the Beta was only a fraction of what full multiplayer will be. We're still missing tons of New and Unknown Vehicles, Weapons and Levels. So when those show up I'm sure we'll either be friggin Ecstatic or Convulsing on the ground in Shock...
And just to confirm... That IS the Brute Escavator. It was originally called the Brute Eliminator but they decided that because of the way the projectiles disintegrate mass and energy they'd call it the escavator.
Apparently it was used by the brutes as a form of escavation for reaching mineral deposits, creating pathways in caverns and destroying the cover placement of their enemies.
The Escavator fires gravitational energy rounds that pierce objects of substantial mass and then detonate causing them to crack.
Usually most effective against Rock, Earth, Wood and Light metals... Useless against energy shields... But fire at someones feet and surroundings and it's deadly.
Think Torque bow meets Gravity pulse cannon from Attack of the Clones... Ouch !

Fontez your a newb!
Lol jk, that's pretty cool I'll believe you since you seem to know all the ins and outs of Halo.
Fontez @ Jul 9th 2007 4:40PM
lol thanks buddy !
I dunno if that's exactly what the weapon will turn out as, but that's what I know so far...
Regardless it will be a very Powerful Handheld Brute Weapon... That's for damn sure !
Just imagine the effect it will have on vehicles... It's time to FUCK, SHIT, UP !!!
df_toro @ Jul 9th 2007 4:45PM
Hell yea! The Brutes are finally getting some love ;)

It does look similar to the place holder weapon in the Game Videos analysis vid here.

Its at about the 4:30 mark.

Wow I waisted my (and your) time posting that last comment. Guess I should have went to the link above. They already have it there.

Meh, who cares. Don't get me wrong, I like Halo, but I'd imagine hundreds of Halo fanboys jizzing their pants over this one weapon. Just wait till September. All in all Halo 3 will be big. Quit the ARGs, quit the goofy in depth report, and just wait.

I dono...Looks pretty sweet though.

Here's the deal:
Play as, obviously, a spartan, an elite and as a brute.
What would kick ass:
Mini games throughout played as Cortana trapped inside whatever entity holds her.

Here's a simple comparison shot I did:

The artwork gun doesn't look anything like the render drawing. The artwork shot looks like a miniature Brute shot, the lower edge has the same blade that the brute shot does. The nozzel is similar, though.
Jackson @ Jul 28th 2007 2:25AM
It's called the Mauler.
It's a dual-wieldable shotgun.
