OXM rumor: MGS4 on 360 a few months after PS3

Alright, so Konami's secret, poetic announcement turned out not to be Metal Gear Solid 4 for the Xbox 360. It turned out to be Silent Hill 5 (which is actually bigger news for some people). Still, a good rumor never dies (and a great rumor comes true). While the MGS4 360 rumor has yet to come true, a reliable tipster tells us that Official Xbox Magazine has taken it upon themselves to toss another log on the fire. In the most recent Rumor Mole section, OXM declares that a "bankable source" told them that Metal Gear Solid 4 is definitely coming to Xbox 360. The game is reportedly being ported by a separate team -- which isn't headed by Hideo Kojima -- and should ship "a few months" after the PS3 version.

Considering the ever-mounting rumors and Konami's own comments on the matter, it's starting to look like the only thing missing is an official announcement.

As mentioned before, Konami needs to recoup the development costs for this game. The best way to do so is to go multiplatform.

Besides, even if this title doesn't go on 360, we still have plenty of games to play.

anyways, how would they port it, so much about the game has already been announced to use the motion sensor... I am still doubting it.

and i find it funny that most people dont even care about this great game, they just want sony to lose an exclusive (even when MGS2 was already on xbox before and nobody cared about it, so technically the MGS series hasnt been exclusive to sony).

Will MGS4 be a good game? You bet your ass?

I honestly do not care if it comes to 360 or not, because MGS games have the worst replay value I probably evr seen. Yea tha games are fun and all but ill only beat the game once and never play it again.

The only reason i would want MGS4 come to 360 is because the PS3's only hope would probably be MGS 4 because none of their BIG games look good accept for Lair, adn if 360 also gets MGS 4 more people will most likely get it on 360 and the PS3 wil be screwed even more then they are rite now.

no replay value? are you kidding, kojima packs so many secrets and easter eggs its so much fun to play through the game multiple times to find alternate cutscenes, ways to beat bosses, escape sequences etc etc. i played MGS3 multiple times just to do the different ways to beat the end (the boss "the end", not the ending of the game) then not to mention getting secret items like stealth camo and what not makes the game hilarious messing with guards etc etc.

i personally dont care if it goes to 360, i own a PS3, and use to own a 360 (sold it, not many games i want, and dont tell me halo3 and mass effect, because 1 i dont like halo, and 2 i dont like RPGs, so dont call me a fanboy, i dont doubt that they are great games, they jsut arent for me) and i will get this game no matter what.

I haven't been blown away by the series since the first Metal Gear Solid, honestly, and even it was flawed with respect to gameplay. The big deal at the time was its cinema-like presentation and adult themes, but games since have done gameplay and cinema bigger and better. I probably wouldn't remember the first game so fondly if I weren't, I don't know, 15 years old at the time?

The big draw is the story, and unless that story is going to break the mold of the rest of the series and transcend B-movie writing, it's a rental for me.

I really don't care for stealth games so MGS4 is a non issue for me factor. in the tree hugging lib storylines of the 2 games I played, and its a never gonna care franchise for me.

I don't doubt that MGS4 will make it to the 360 but I had heard that sony had a 1 year exclusivity on it, who knows? I'm interested to know what kind of achievments they would have. Put C4 on an unsuspecting enemies back? Probably one for going through the whole game without an alarm.

I feel like these games are more of a movie than a game, but either way I've always had a bit of fun with them. I own both systems so I can't lose either way, but I think it's good for gamers in general when games are multiplatform because often times the producers create new content specifically for each program.

I don't think this is true. this same thing comes up everytime and gets shot down. why would kojima come out and say that its definetly not coming on the 360 and turn around less than 2 months later and change his mind. this is a PS3 seller Sony would definetly put down to keep this game exclusive money for the PS3. But you can keep the hope alive and refuse to by a PS3 so far the 360 doesnt have any stand out games that will sell this holiday season as good as Mass effect might be it wont sell 360's and Fable 2 and project Gotham definetly arent sellers, MOST likely if you never played the halo series why buy the third installment thats like selling the last chapter of harry potter by itself, so halo wont sell the 360 either except for people who still own an xbox. all the games the 360 has now are multiplatform games and devs are getting better at making PS3 games(compare madden when the 360 came out to PS3 madden) now do you get what i meen seems the PS3 cought up and now its about to pass so much for having better graphics on 360 multiplatform games. COD4 at E3 was ran mostly on the PS3 and some how that wont the best game at E3 for the 360 (backwords much). But you know whats gonna happen this october we are gonna be sitting around comparing GTAIV screen shots trying to pick out all the mistakes and missing leaves, cracks, and the smallest detail.

To be honest, I've never played a MGS game in my life... this one looks very promising though. If does end up hitting the 360, I wouldn't mind shelling out $60 for the title.

I'm also really excited for silent hill V maybe more so.

MGS 4 is NOT coming to 360. Stop hoping that it will because it is not going to happen. Kojima and even Peter Moore himself stated it's not going to 360 and is exclusive to PS3. And no, not every MGS game has shown up on other consoles like some moron posted further below this post.

i'm not a fan of the MGS series. but really making a comparison of ,"mgs 4 isnt coming to 360 as halo aint going to ps3" isn't really that strong of a statement. true enough this is a rumor, but how many times have you seen a rumor about Halo coming to the ps. that's probably because Halo is a first party game, while MGS isn't. and this whole thing about exclusives is getting old quickly in this generations of games. the only games that will be exclusive are first party games. and who knows those might become iffy before long. so if it's not a first party game, then it's fair game. afterall, when it comes down to it, it's about how many games you can sell to make up for the time and money that was put into it.

To the people who always hold up Kojima's comments about exclusivity: Do you understand how games get made?

There's a developer (Kojima) and there's a publisher (Konami).

The publisher is the one who decides where and how a game is released. And a game publisher, like any business, cares more about profit than taking sides in a console war.

If Sony offers up a better deal than Microsoft, it will stay a PS3 exclusive. If they don't, it's coming to the Xbox 360.

Those are just the facts we all have to deal with.

Will this ever end? The Sony Press conference said specifically this "This franchise has been a fixture on our platform since the beginning... and we couldn't be more excited that it's ONLY on Playstation 3." After the trailer he said, "We look forward to seeing MGS4 exclusively for Playstation 3 very soon." I'm sorry, but your not going to get MGS4 for at least a year or ever. Peter Moore was interviewed and said nothing was being developed right now. The Konami Pres said what he said, because IF MGS4 does not do well on the PS3 then its possible they will bring it out for 360 to get more money. A couple months later? Give me a break. Not possible.

If you haven't had the distinct pleasure of finishing a newr gen MG game, you COULD be missing out on something special. Metal Gear was one of the games that made the PS brand dominant for the past couple of generations. Its SERIOUSLY worth checking out at least on the Xbox version...does the 360 support that? Anyway, if it comes to the 360 it'll just be another "not Halo" title to be ignored, so it's really not a big deal to this market. Sad, but probably true...

if you got a PS2, go play MGS 1-3 they are fantastic games. i use to be a nintendo fanboy and was ognna get a gc but then i saw gta3 coming out so i got a PS2 and it was the best decision i made, not because of gta3, but because i discovered MGS. i bought MGS1 since i could play it on PS2 and had missed it for PS1 since i was obsessed with N64 back then.

i have a hard time believing some of these people saying the gameplay isnt that great, or the story isnt that great etc etc, to me it just sounds like they are trying to reassure themselves that they dont want it if it never goes to 360.

but the story actually always relates to controversial themes like genetics and the business of war.

AS far as MGs goes, i think in the past it has had poor replay value to me. Add in achievments though and I would have a reason to keep playing and goals. In MGS 2 on Xbox, after I beat it with Raiden and snake, there wasnt anything else to do in it but watch the scenes with different character models. I never played 3 or the remake and prequale 1 on the cube. I know MGS is a great expierence to be had, and I am interested in seeing the character development w/story.

I came to the 360 from the PS2 and would love to see MGS4 on the 360.

I really enjoyed 2 and 3, even if the cutscenes did drag on at times! They were both very well polished and had a unique 'feel' to them when playing. (If you know what I mean).

But to be honest, I dunno if I could afford it even if it did come over as there are so many other titles I'd like to pick up over the coming months!

that can't be because it's really up to Hideo to decide whether it will go on another platform and if another team is working on it without the consent of Hideo then I see a lawsuit happening. and what #33 (or whoever) is trying to say is that people who are going to buy Halo 3 have already bought a 360, hence, 360 sales wont grow at release because people have already bought the console... I couldn't see what other reason why someone would buy a 360 but for Halo...

with the word exclusive being used up and down, it wouldn't surprise me if MGS 4 came to the 360. At the PS3 press conference, Hideo did say that MGS 4 was exclusive to the PS3, but again does exclusive mean anything anymore. it's more like timed exclusive. it would have been different if he right out said, it's only for the ps3 and it will not come out on any other console. I'm a big MGS fan, so i'm really praying that this rumour becomes a reality. If it doesn't which would suck for me and other 360 MGS fans, E.J. is right, at least we'll have plenty of games to play

We need to remember a several important factors:

1. Let's remember that when we saw ACTUAL "In-Game" gameplay of Metal Gear Solid 4 at the Tokyo Game Show, it really did have crappy graphics that were NOT impressive.

2. Let's remember that at this year’s E3, Konami spent FIVE MINUTES showing a Metal Gear Solid 4 demo that included NO ACTUAL GAMEPLAY!!!

3. At this year’s 2007 E3, Konami said, "The reason we are not showing 'Actual Gameplay' is because we 'don't have enough time.'" Yet, Konami had over FIVE MINUTES to show the demo.

4. Epic showed Gears of War PC being PLAYED ONLINE ON THE STAGE for an ENTIRE BOSS BATTLE, in less than THREE MINUTES!!!

5. OBVIOUSLY, Konami EASILY could have shown Metal Gear Solid 4 if they would have wanted to.

6. Development costs of Metal Gear Solid 4 are MUCH HIGHER than all of the previous Metal Gear games combined!!! And there are only 3.4 million PS3 systems sold worldwide so far, compared to 115 million PS2 systems. Even if MGS4 is the best-selling PS3 game, it still won’t make enough profit on the PS3 alone. The sales numbers and statistics don’t lie: Konami will need to release Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Xbox 360 and the PC.

7. Hideo Kojima of Konami had said the EXACT SAME THINGS about Metal Gear Solid 3 being the LAST GAME he would work on in the series. That ended up being a BOLD FACED LIE for marketing purposes, because we later found out that he started working on MGS4 before MGS3 had actually been released. It is almost certainly going to be the EXACT SAME THING with Metal Gear Solid 4.

Even IGN has said they doubt MGS4 will be the last game in the series. You can also take a look at this website for proof of Hideo Kojima’s mood swings about whether or not a game is his “last one” in the series...it’s interesting how Hideo Kojima seems to decide it will be the “last one” he will work on, or “the last one” in the series during the times that would be best for marketing purposes…in other words, HE LIES: http://games.kikizo.com/news/200411/056.asp

8. Based on the previous Tokyo Game Show, Konami better hope they did a LOT of improving to Metal Gear Solid 4, or else it will be an even bigger flop than Metal Gear Solid 3, which sold less than half the number of copies that Metal Gear Solid 2 did!

That is just not true (about the people already buying 360s). I, PERSONALLY, know about 10 people waiting until closer to Halo 3's release to buy a 360, literally. I bet there may even be thousands or maybe over a million people waiting, and with the advent of the new Halo 3 xbox360 even people that already own a 360 will buy another 360. These things are going to sell like hotcakes, and Halo 3 will no doubt break every sales record in existence.

At Number 19---Are you kidding me? "All 360 games are multiplatfrom" YEAH RIGHT!?! Unless you are counting PC and 360 as multiplatform when they are both owned by Microsoft. Even so, many games out for 360 are exclusive. One other thing: The 360 is getting Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Fable 2, and ALL those games will boost the console sales.

The fact that you don't think it will shows you don't know the gaming industry very well. Halo 3 will sell consoles like wild fire, just as Halo 2 did for the THOUSANDS of people who never played Halo 1 and still bought Halo 2. Oh, and don't forget PGR4, Halo Wars, Blue Dragon, and just all the other exclusives to come out that will influence the selling market for the 360.

@36 and @33 first i could just say on the top of my head that halo will break sales record for both xbox360 and the game itself. and both of you guys cannot say it won't cause you don't know. and both of you are morons. #33 just flames people for no re4ason. and #36 just doesn't like halo 3 at all for some reason. so please don't flame someone you don't know cause they believe something. and don't hate on the 360 as your in the360fanboys place here. so if you don't like the idea to just say your opinion and wait for someone with a counter arguement with a reason. or don't come here at all.
