Splinter Cell Conviction delayed til 2008

Firing Squad reports that Splinter Cell Conviction is no longer planned as a 2007 release. The revelation comes courtesy of an Ubisoft financial report which lists the game as a 1st quarter 2008 release. Last month, an Ubisoft release list had Conviction set as a November 2007 title. While no specific reason is given for the delay, we would imagine it has something to do with the absolutely packed holiday lineup. This lineup even contains several of Ubisoft's own titles, including newcomers Assassin's Creed and Haze. Both of these titles are also slated for a November release. Putting a proven franchise like Splinter Cell in the same month as two original IPs probably wasn't the best idea in the first place, so the delay makes sense. Sure, we'll miss Splinter Cell, but frankly, our wallets sigh with relief.

I'm sure they are just spreading out the releases of the big games.
Anticrawl @ Jul 24th 2007 7:05PM
Well that's one less game I have to worry about. Hitma... I mean ConViction looks like a great game n all but do we really need another Hitman.. I mean Splinter Cell game right now, especially with all the sweet games coming out this fall. I for one can wait, and thank Ubisoft for spreading their titles out a little so I can enjoy Hi..Splinter Cell after I've worn out the other heavy hitters.
Mike-453 @ Jul 24th 2007 7:42PM
Erm, yeah, Conviction includes social stealth.....LYKE OMFG ITS HITMAN NOS WAY!
zourskittles @ Jul 24th 2007 7:47PM
Im sure their planning some type of advertising strategy once winter rolls by so they can make sure their game gets noticed.
psyborg @ Jul 24th 2007 8:20PM
NEVER, I mean NEVER trust a Ubi release date.
BestOfBothWorlds @ Jul 24th 2007 9:14PM
so your telling me if bungie made 2 original games for the 3Q they would push back Halo3 too. Ubisoft its ok if your wasnt gonna be complete on the day you promised. PC and PS3 owners alike understand that your games are mostly likely to be pushed back 2 to 3 times not that this game is going multiplat. Ubi is just a web of lies i guess MS paid them off to make this there MGS4. WHY ISN'T HAZE EXCLUSIVE TO PS3. UBI: WE REALIZE THE POTENTIAL SALES IF RELEASED ON BOTH CONSOLES. THEN WHY IS CONVICTION STAYING EXCLUSIVE UBI: WE WANT TO MAKE IT THE BEST IT COULD POSSIBLY BE. ubisoft you can kiss my left nut and make the other one jealous. LEFT NUT(360) RIGHT NUT(PS3)

Anticrawl, were you trying to express an opinion where you felt that Splinter Cell is ripping off Hitman (which is b.s.)? I'm not sure because you didn't say it enough times for no reason.
Anticrawl @ Jul 24th 2007 10:25PM
No Tim, no game rips of another. There is no originality in the world, everything has been done before or thought of before in one way or another in terms of art.
I just hate the fact that Splinter Cell is no longer Splinter Cell and is leaning more towards a game that satisfies things already satisfied by a game called Hitman. I love Splinter Cell and it's a shame to see it stray so far from the original games. I do love innovation but I fail to see what changing the game so much does to innovate.
Anticrawl @ Jul 24th 2007 10:27PM
off*
And yeah not to mention how bad Ubisoft's Tom Clancy license has been abused.
Andrew @ Jul 24th 2007 11:27PM
BestOfBothWorlds, you should realize that the most likely reason Haze is only a delayed exclusive and that Conviction is a complete exclusive is because Microsoft paid Ubisoft to keep Conviction exclusive. And Sony probably did the same (though with less money so that it was only a timed exclusive) with Haze.
sirpilf @ Jul 24th 2007 11:56PM
@12 my theory which is probably wrong, is that ubi wants to get PS3 a bigger install base by saying its a PS3 timed exclusive, same with UT3.... because 360 has a good isntall base so far, and PS3 could be much better, so build more PS3 install base now, means more PS3s AND 360s to sell multiplatform games to in the future.

spies vs. mercs new version? I call spies! :X
Justin @ Jul 25th 2007 12:13AM
need more time to optimize it for the PS3
Joe @ Jul 25th 2007 1:01AM
I don't blame Ubi for this. It actually makes a lot of sense. Everyone is going to be spoiled for choice anyway.
chaos_deception @ Jul 25th 2007 7:22AM
Ahem..... News Flash BOLT BRAIN. its exlusive to the Xbo360 which means PS3 isnt getting it lol.
More time to optimise it for PS3, now thats funny.
Justin @ Jul 25th 2007 9:19AM
@ chaos
since you can't spell on a 2nd grade level yet,
i won't fault you for not sensing the sarcasm.
chaos_deception @ Jul 25th 2007 11:22AM
there.. there... don't be bitter now.
Just because most PS3 players yearn to have Splinter Cell Conviction for its more realistic take on stealth action called social stealth action.
You can keep MGS4 and it's ultra Scifi style gameplay. Cardboard box and Oil drum, and let us not forget the jumping robots that hunt you down half life 2 strider style lol.
Resorting to insulting my spelling "oh the shame"
Justin @ Jul 25th 2007 11:42AM
wow. you just don't get it, do ya?
iceman2cool_92 @ Jul 25th 2007 11:51AM
@7
You're absolutely right this is typical of ubisoft, they delayed double agent from spring to fall and then pushed it back another month.
drdre74 @ Jul 25th 2007 2:59PM
i'm glad it got pushed back. Too many good games I want to get at the same time. This just saved me $60 until next year. lol!
Triforceowner @ Jul 25th 2007 5:55PM
Sweet... I don't want anything distracting me from Mass Effect.
