First Resident Evil 5 gameplay trailer on XBLM
A new full-length trailer for Resident Evil 5 has popped up on Xbox Live Marketplace. The trailer is an extended version of the one Microsoft showed at E3. In the new trailer, Chris Redfield, longtime veteran of the RE series, tells of his struggles policing what appears to be an African village. More importantly, we finally get a glimpse at Resident Evil 5's gameplay. Fans of RE4 can relax, because the series is definitely maintaining the 3rd person, over-the-shoulder perspective. What has changed, though, is the sheer number of enemies that are standing on the business end of Redfield's gun. At points in the trailer, there appear to be literally dozens of enemies. What's more, they appear to be very quick, even more so than the Ganados of RE4. Finally, the trailer closes with a glimpse of a female character, suspended in a liquid filled tank of some sort. Who she is is anyone's guess (Jill Valentine? A grown up Ashley Graham?) -- our Resident Evil lore is a little rusty. Graphically, the game looks amazing, especially the facial models. But enough talk! Watch it already.

It looks awesome, but I'm not much in to Horror/Survival...
JonnyBoy2U @ Jul 26th 2007 10:56AM
Holy shit that looks AWESOME! The tension, the horror...ridiculous.
I loved RE4 so much and I'm so glad that RE5 is beginning to look even better than it.
And yeah Chris is jacked...

"And yeah Chris is jacked..."
Stay off the juice, Chris!
Tony @ Jul 26th 2007 11:00AM
Game is looking pretty excellent, nice continuation of the game play changes made in RE4 too. There's sometimes like 20+ zombies on-screen, which is pretty cool.
Bishop @ Jul 26th 2007 11:15AM
Can't wait for this one, it looks great.
thisguyrighthere @ Jul 26th 2007 11:15AM
I dont know. This over-the-shoulder view made RE4 feel like the series is devolving into an arcade shooter. It's becoming more and more about flashy colors and loud noises rather than freak-me-out psychological suspense and terror.
Personally I prefer suspense, atmosphere and the drive to stay alive over "whoa! did you see the zombies head explode!"
Oh well.
I hope SH5 doesnt follow suit. And RE5 may prove me wrong when it comes out. Theres still time and my first impression isnt really based on anything except the trailer and RE4.

omg the graphics look amazing. Better then GOW anyway. so far the second best looking game I have ever seen (crysis is the best)
chenry @ Jul 26th 2007 12:06PM
holy smokes, that looks intense!
Toph @ Jul 26th 2007 12:13PM
OFFENDED. Good sweet LORD, i'm offended!
So the hero is Chris Redfield, the ONLY well-muscled, healthy, oh...and WHITE character shown, killing lots of 'infected?' Africans.
Did anyone else but me think that someone in CAPCOM Japan saw some old UNICEF footage and instead of donating money, said, "Wow, those black people sure are creepy looking! Let's make a white guy shoot them all en masse!"
I REALLY hope that this isn't falling on deaf ears..
What ever happened to ZOMBIES????
Sorry Richard, Dustin and Kunckles, but no matter how 'fun' the gameplay might be, this whole minorites-portrayal is really offensive to me, and I SERIOUSLY HOPE it doesn't come away unscathed. What's next? Resident Evil 6: where you visit Auschwitz?
Sorry if i've gone too far..but CAPCOM seriously pizzed me off.
Project Ekim @ Jul 26th 2007 12:32PM
that was gamplay and not in engine but still cinematic right because if that was gamplay that was just awsome
ryan @ Jul 26th 2007 12:35PM
@ Toph
i don't think they meant to be offensive. the story takes place in Africa. the land of where life began so to speak.
in this motherland to the homo sapian something has gone terribly wrong. Chris (who we never heard anything of for so long) is led here.
in case you hadn't noticed Africa is mostly populated by black Africans. Auschwitz is in the past man. as much as you find this offensive, to many it isn't.
people just get so uptight about things that relatively do not matter and they weave scenarios that don't exist.
i'm Hispanic yet i didn't find killing Spainards offensive in RE 4. there was something demonic in them, i had to survive. so i killed them. a possessed being is a possessed being regardless of skin color, race or creed! =D
Benjamin09 @ Jul 26th 2007 12:54PM
Toph I watched that video and race never crossed my mind. From a 2 minute movie you are screaming about being offended? I would have been if it had started off saying "KKK member Chris Redfield is in Africa to kill some black people"
Were you offended when GRAW 2 took place just across the Mexican border? Were you offended when Marcus chainsaws some locust?
I am going to say when the majority of people see this game, race will never cross their mind until someone like you screams "RACISM".
Its like that episode of South Park with the towns flag of the hanging. Chef is yelling racism, while the whole time the kids just saw people instead of color.
MadMup @ Jul 26th 2007 1:07PM
So when did they get Charlie Sheen to voice Chris Redfield?
Yuccadude @ Jul 26th 2007 1:18PM
Toph, what comes to your mind when a white person kills a black person? Racism, I'd think you'd say. But what do you think when a black person kills a white person? That's just how it goes. We have a double standard when it comes to racism. And also, how many 'white' people do you think inhabit Africa? Not very many would be the correct answer I believe, so why would the turning/zombies be white like they were in RE, where the outbreak was in an American city?
bxstrb @ Jul 26th 2007 1:20PM
Well I am offended! As an Asian man, I am constantly portrayed as a stereotype! I do not have pointy hair, feminine features, elaborate clothing or carry a sword with me everywhere I go!
My Italian friend, Guido, is also deeply offended by The Darkness, which portrays all Italians as ruthless gangsters bent on destroying an innocent man who simply likes to eat human hearts! Oh the humanity!
RE4 did a similar injustice. That evil Leon killed all those innocent, possessed villagers that dared come at him with knives and pitchforks! Won't someone please think of the Spaniards!
I feel your pain Toph!
Pat @ Jul 26th 2007 1:32PM
That trailer was ridiculously well done, perfect until Chris Redfield is like "I have a job to do... and I am going to see it through." Oh Capcom and their habitually shitty voice acting. Hire a new writer and actor.
elmersglue @ Jul 26th 2007 2:16PM
@pat, it wasn't that bad dude, i've heard much much worse. A line like that had potential to have been butchered far worse by a REALLY bad actor, so i blame it on the writing more so than the acting.
DiMo @ Jul 26th 2007 3:12PM
I would love to play this game with the Wiimote... It sucks having to go back to aiming with the stick.
Wolfrider @ Jul 26th 2007 3:31PM
The fact that they were all black struck me when I first saw this trailer, but in a way that didn't make me want to cry "RACISM!"
Instead I'm intrigued. Could this be signs that Capcom is going to throw some geopolitical allegory/commentary into the mix? It would certainly be cool, a nice way to mature the series in a way that doesn't involve more violence and/or a sex minigame.
Still can't wait for ignorant academics to start slithering from their underground lairs and claim this is all white-supremacist propaganda. It's going to happen, you know it. So let's hope Capcom circumvents it by making some fun political commentary. I'm getting excited. :)
Dave @ Jul 26th 2007 5:09PM
Me too! I'm just as offended!
As a male caucasian how dare they portray us as muscle bound, handsome men who all know how to wield weapons! This is ubsurd!
Alex @ Jul 26th 2007 7:02PM
I'm just as offended as you Toph!
As a white guy I'm seriously disturbed! I mean why are we always portrayed killing black people? I mean why can't someone else do the job! All the mess...
p.s: White people in media are shown as killing people of every race, so why complain about the black murders Toph. It's not like your upper-middle class family is seriously affected. As an argument against racism, aren't people like you doing more of a disservice to the race issue than Capcom? Remember that black enslavement was largely isolated to the Americas, and people of every race have been enslaved throughout history. I think that if anything hispanics should be complaining more often, because like 99% of the time when someone gets murdered in a video game hes like from the spanish harlem, L.A drug lord, or some dominican baseball player :)
pkilla @ Jul 26th 2007 7:19PM
LOL,
Yeah this looks really good, I got into all the RE except RE4, never got around to playing it. Glad to see it coming to the 360 though!
razer @ Jul 26th 2007 7:44PM
Wow, that trailer is awesome!! The amount of enemies on the screen is great and I think they took a page from Dead Rising on that one.
(off topic)
That has always bugged me when PS3 fanboys spout their BS that the 360 can only have 3-4 people on screen at a time.. I just have to show them Dead Rising and litterly hundreds of enemies on screen at once.. There is even an achievement for killing 10,000 zombies. Go to the tunnel and you will find easily 2000-3000 enemies on screen. This is more than any PS3 game has ever seen.
rockeranimefreak @ Jul 26th 2007 9:55PM
haha good comments everyone! :D this game is gonna rock my socks! not becuase i'm white but because its RE on 360!
Eriq @ Jul 27th 2007 12:06AM
Toph: I'm black and personally I'm not offended by the trailer/game. The story is set in Africa, and Africa is predominately...you fill in the rest. So what? We can't have video games that set stories in different countries like this? Resident Evil 1-4 (and the 10 "other" versions) were set in many areas. I think it's cool they chose Africa in a video game. If most of the zombies happen to be African, great. Let it be. It's just a game.
Boff @ Jul 27th 2007 5:51AM
I think Toph would still complain if the game was set in Africa and there were NO black people in it.
I bet he was involved the 'Kill All Hiatians!" fiasco.
Jojo @ Sep 7th 2007 3:51AM
OH MAN! I am OFFENDED!
Toph! Look! I am a black female and I don't see any problems with RE5! How could you blame Capcom as racisms?!? What did you make your whiney behavior to make my black community look bad? RE5 doesn't have a goal to destory black people because of Chris Redfield is white! It shows the storyline that Chris tries to find someone who causes people have diseases and turns them into monsters. I don't see any racisms! I am more than happy to see my country in that game! I am looking foward to playing it!
