New Halo 3 equipment revealed in Famitsu
Gamersyde has uncovered some scans of the latest Famitsu, revealing a metric ton of new Halo 3 info. Lucky for you, most of this info is revealed in the recent Halo 3 preview from MSN that we posted earlier today. One thing they didn't reveal, however, is the equipment you see at right. The equipment looks to be Covenant in nature. More or less it looks like an energy shield similar to the ones the Covenant deploy in the first two Halo games. Given this similarity, we're guessing that this shield is solid, unlike the Bubble Shield, and players won't be able to walk through it. If true, it could certainly make playing Territories more interesting. There's plenty more information to be gleaned from the scans, including new weapons, vehicles, and more. Check it out if you wish, but beware of spoilers.

Looks like there is more new info than just the portable cover unit that you pointed out. On the second page at the bottom is a section describing the customizable Spartan armor. However in the same sidebar they state that the elite character models will also be customizable. I don't think this has been officially announced yet. I also haven't seen the hornet snub fighter (found on page 2) mentioned elsewhere before. I haven't had a chance to go through too much of the text yet so if I find more new stuff I'll let you know.

Jesus Christ!!!! Those scans are the best I've seen yet - the mobile base/tank/troop carrier looks sooooo cool. Is there armour customisation for elites as well? Think I see a human flying vehicle as well - roll on Sept!!!!!!!!!

that just about raps up the rundown for those screens and they look amazing.
Halo 3 is looking better and better each day.
Now we just need a japeneze translator in here to see what those words mean.

I'm not a word perfect translator and I haven't yet seen the EGM scans so I'm not too sure what is new and what isn't. The Hornet fighter apparently allows two soldiers to ride on on either side of the fuselage. Again the magazine doesn't say if it is actually flyable in the campaign or in multiplayer. From the wording it sounds like they know if it is playable or not but can't say.
Oh and the spelling is Epitaph if they go with the non-leet version.

First off, watch the language. Secondly, the screens do look pretty amazing. I can't wait to take on the behemoth!!
Jman196 @ Jul 27th 2007 10:05PM
I am almost 100% certain in guessing that brutes will also be a playable character. It would be so awesome for bungie to do it, that I bet they did.
InfectedZero @ Jul 28th 2007 11:48AM
Well look at that screen with the two ghosts firing at the hornet, that seems to be a multiplayer shot since it shows two spartans in the ghosts...so I would say the hornet is in multi..

I don't know what was previously announced, and my Japanese isn't perfect, but MAP EDITOR?! (second page, bottom right) :O I'll look at it in more detail later, but I think it says something about being able to share arranged maps over XBL. 'Anything is possible with Forge (Mode)' is the tagline. The magazine then speculates about what new ways of play could be introduced if several players could be in this said mode together.
...I think. Like I said my Japanese is far from perfect and involves a lot of guesswork. Take this with a large pinch of salt, but 'Forge mode' does suggest a Garry's Mod-esque addition.
