With
Bioshock's release less than a month away, the biggest question on most people's minds is whether or not we'll be seeing a game demo released before the game comes out. Well, thanks to our friends over at the German video game rating board (the USK), we can pretty much confirm one will be released. Over on the
USK website, they've posted a rating for what is called a "
Bioshock Demo" along with the standard
Bioshock game. So, that pretty much confirms a
Bioshock demo will be coming out and since it has already been rated in Germany one would think it would be releasing relatively soon, possibly before August 21st. We'll be waiting patiently on the Marketplace's blade, waiting for a glimpse of a Big Daddy, and waiting for our
Bioshock demo.

There's still some doubt as many think this rating is for the demo being shown at Leipzig (or however it's spelt!).
I've got the Collectors Edition on preorder so I may even save myself for the full deal :)

I won't be downloading the demo as I don't want to ruin any of the game before I buy it. This is a must buy for me.
Toph @ Jul 28th 2007 12:13PM
Cool, one of the most required demos for me. I'm not sold yet on Bioshock.
wierddemon @ Jul 28th 2007 12:19PM
How can you not be sold on Bioshock? Are you crazy?
Zeus the God @ Jul 28th 2007 12:41PM
Fucking awesome.

enjoy these times when demos are free.

LOL, who would make a consumer pay for a demo? I could possibly see a publisher making you pay to play the first hour of a game and than let you decide if you want to buy it or not, but a demo? Unless that is what the demo is, I don't see it happening any time soon.

It's not going to happen for so many reasons. It's publicity for the game, the backlash would be incredible. I'm not sure why people keep bringing that back up... There's been people claiming it would happen as long as soon as downloadable console demos started being available.

I am 99% sure that Ken Levine (Project Director for Bioshock) has stated in interviews that there have never been plans for releasing a demo because he feels it takes time away from developing and fine tuning the actual game. Of course this may have changed recently if they felt the game was ahead of schedule. Either way though I agree with Brick that I wouldn't want to ruin the experience with a demo either, unless the demo is actually the full beginning of the game.
italiansmoke @ Jul 28th 2007 3:39PM
I can't wait!
Edward @ Jul 28th 2007 3:44PM
Hmmm...Demo's can be bad...I'll wait for the full version. How can you have a demo of this game that has such a huge story? Are they going to let us play a random level/stage? Are they going to explain the story THEN let us have a go at the gameplay? If they do not explain the story THEN let us play, I am going to wait until the game comes out. Otherwise, I can't wait for the demo!!!!!

I hope they release it sooner rather than later... I've been itching to play this game since the first trailers came out. I like moral decisions and beautiful graphics in my games ;)
Tony @ Jul 28th 2007 11:42PM
I'd imagine it'd be something like Prey where you just play a portion of the opening area. It'd make the most sense.
Feedback @ Jul 29th 2007 6:09AM
@14 Or do like HL: Uplink and make something like a side plot that wont ruin anything, but will show off the game mechanics...
Dave @ Jul 29th 2007 9:54AM
Anyone else as pumped for this game as I am?
Justin U @ Jul 29th 2007 6:27PM
Bioshock isn't a must buy for me...
I'll reserve judgements for the Demo.

I paid for the Doom demo when it came out in, I think 1990? $9.99 and it was worth every penny.
